Rick Perry on debate gaffe: 'I stepped in it'
Polutico ^ | Wednesday November 9, 2011 | Alexander Burns

Posted on 11/09/2011 8:30:08 PM PST by Bigtigermike

Rick Perry swiftly came to the spin room after the end of the GOP debate Wednesday night and directly told reporters that he screwed up on stage.

"I'm glad I had my boots on tonight," Perry said. "I stepped in it out there." Continue Reading

Perry froze up on stage as he attempted to list the three federal departments he planned to cut, naming Education and Commerce but forgetting the Department of Energy.

Said Perry: "I may have forgotten Energy, but I haven't forgotten my conservative principles."

Asked by a reporter if that moment was embarrassing, Perry said: "I stepped in it, man. Yeah, it was embarrassing. Of course it was."

I think it's time for you to jump into the race. :-D

Now THAT would fire things up!

I’ve been observing behavior here all through the past summer and up to now.

No amount of Mitt Romney-style fast-talking is going to change what I saw.

A lot of people fall for that sort of thing, which is what gives the media its power over the masses.

I am not and never have been one of those people. ;-)

The last two national polls released had Cain and Romney virtually tied. One was 27-28 and one was 21-21.

The same polls had Gingrich 13 to Perry 10 and Gingrich 12-Perry 11.

I look at the state polls and they are really odd. While Perry looks like he's bombing, the Obama vs. Perry is virtually the same as Obama vs. any of the candidates.

“That there’s pretty interesting, seeing as how Perry didn’t enter the race until August 13...”

Yes, the most ardent among the Perry supporters were way ahead of the ball......doesn’t change the effect of their behavior or the reactions of other posters to them.

I take it by your language that your intent is to start a flame war......nice try.......

Oh, keep your shirt on. (Please!)

That was in response to your snarky little pissant comment.

I used to go after pissant for his rude comments about Governor Palin, by the way.

Get over yourself. I don't go looking for flamewars, but when someone drags me into one, they're usually sorry in a pretty short time. I don't back down from Internet Tough Guys (aka Tiny Hyenas.)

Especially when the challenger is an snippy little noob.

“Kind of like their chickens are starting to come home to roost you mean.”

Despite the ardent support of fans here on FR, Perry can’t seem to rise above the ~10% polling support he enjoys now. (look at the polling data posts here on FR...he isn’t even mentioned in the banner line) I’d say, as a candidate, he is in the same position as Romney in 2008. I’d look for his withdrawal sometime in early 2012....his viability/popularity as a candidate just isn’t there in the national conscienceness for whatever/varied reasons....... JMHO

“.....the Obama vs. Perry is virtually the same as Obama vs. any of the candidates.”

Not odd at all....it just illustrates the extent of “Anybody but Obama” feelings in the country......Perry fits the generic “anybody” in that equation.....

The relevant question is Perry’s viability to become the Republican Nominee which is low and drifting lower.

Despite all the sound and fury of his supporters, Perry hasn’t caught on in the national areana......sorry pal it is looking more and more like it may be time for you and others to move on and look for a candidate that has a chance of topping the Republican ticket.

No matter how the primaries shake out, keep foremost in your mind that the defeat of Obama and the Democrats is our shared priority.

Here's my dilemma. I don't know enough about Cain to give him my vote. He has no record and some of his comment on the second amendment and abortion make me pause.I'm not gonna vote for a candidates advisers.

Newt, maybe but I still see signs of old Newt, detached from reality of the conservative.

Mitt,well, you know.

Perry is who I am backing till the end. He would have to drop out for me to move on because in my mind there is not a viable candidate. Herman Cain is not it.

Despite the ardent support of fans here on FR, Perry can’t seem to rise above the ~10% polling support he enjoys now.

It has been running a tad bit lower more often than not in the past few weeks. Actually for a marginally moderate Republican he might have done better if he had woke up and paid attention to the issues of concern to those in his targeted base. I mean like, when 78-82% of the nation has voiced some form of support for reducing the illegal alien population and closing the border by using different methods Perry jumps right out there and sticks his finger in the collective eye of the nation. That was his worst screw up IMO and it has been downhill ever since.

He then struck out with the Grey Panther brigade with his maybe technically correct description but poorly chosen words attacking SS when such a very large percentage of working Americans reaching retirement age and counting on SS being there for them. Perry has continually failed to take the pulse of the nation before stepping out and tripping all over his manhood.

It would seem to me that he should have fired his campaign advisers as they seem to be a bunch of high school rookies without a hint of knowledge running a Presidential campaign. I'm afraid he has finally just done himself in and may make it to primary day but I rather doubt it. Future candidates should study Perry's campaign to learn from all his mistakes and they are numerous and still mounting.

Are you willing to concede that over 10 years, the Governor has only 5 issues that you disagree with? (In the meantime, he’s handled 9-11, Rita, Katrina, Ike, floods, wild fires, and defended life and marriage, lowered spending, prevented a State income tax, fought off William Wayne Justice and his brothers in the Federal Courts, opposed the EPA, fought ICE and their determination to bring illegal aliens convicted of other crimes to dump in Texas, and managed to keep our economy strong and our debt the second lowest in the Nation.)

He yielded - not quickly, but definitively - on the mandate for Gardasil and the TTC. He’s had plenty of time to fight those battles again, if he wanted. (Even in February, 2007, when he issued his EO, he made it easier for parents to opt out of all vaccines and girls eligible for the Federally mandated Vaccines for Children - Medicaid, CHIPs, Indian Health Service and un- or under-insured - were already receiving Gardasil free of charge to them.)

He has been to one La Raza meeting in San Antonio when he accepted the invitation to speak at their National Convention, as Governor of Texas. For that same reason, he accepted a gift from (what year was that?) and has met with the leaders of our Texas neighbor and largest trading partner, with whom we share 1200 miles of border. The only “coddling” is the in state tuition.
He has worked with the most moderate sect of Islam, that does not support any of the horrors of mainstream, much less jihadist, Islam. I’ve never heard or read that any of the events were “racist.” Can you give examples?

The fence slows down invaders, the estimate is 4 minutes, which may be useful in populated areas or where the border patrol can respond in time. However, it’s less effective than the river (a de facto moat) is. The fence must be built inside the flood plain, which means a mile from the border in places.

Those issues are at the heart of what ails America. No respect for our border, no respect for the rights of parents, no respect for provate property, no respect for the fact that Islam and the Constitution are incompatable...need I go on?

Is there a point? Bescaue if you disagree there really is no point in me talking to a person refusing to accept the reality that surrounds them.

1 LaRaza meeting is one too many. Catering to racists is idiocy.

Your economy is built and maintained by cheap illegal labor that floods out across the countryy and results in gangs, crime and dead Americand thanks to things like SB1070 ‘not being right for Texas”. Yup, CODDLED. As in does everything he can to NOT do what is needed to actually fix the problem.

He was forced by the legislature to ‘yeild’ on guardasil and then trashed them for smacking him down.

Your Largest trading partner? So it’s OK that Americans are killed by castoffs of our great neighbor as long as your illegal dominated economic miracle thrives?

Lastly, explain to me how China built a ‘fence’ a thousand plus years ago that worked to this very day and we the mighty America can’t.

What side of the border do your loyalties lie btw? You sure don’t act like an American that loves his country with ‘logic’ like that.

It seems that we are again in the process of letting the MSM and the left control our nominee selection process.....

Unlike you, I see Herman Cain as the best of the rest....

Sarah Palin, of all the candidates/potential candidates represented me best, but the Dems/MSM went all out to destroy her on the national stage....the same thing they are in the process of doing to Herman Cain....

All that vetting (sic) of Republican candidates, yet not a peep about an ineligible Creep in Chief...... makes ya wonder.......yeah, I know the answer to that.......the socialist bias of the Fourth Estate.

We need Conservative’s to encourage their children to enter Journalism/Education and to run for local elective offices....grass roots ground game may take a few decades but will certaintly renew our Republic......

I, for one, have had enough.....time for us to abandon Marques of Queensbury rules and learn the art of political street fight’n.......

Even if all the things you say are 100%, Perry has shown himself to be less than desirable as a nominee for the National Chief Executive......legitimate reasons or not, Perry has not be able to gain traction nationally. I have a hard time seeing him changing the national perception of him......

Sad, but earlier this year I had hoped to be able to vote FOR a Republican Candidate.........

.......as it stands it looks like I’ll be voting against Obama instead....... As I said sad.....

Do not question my loyalty to the United States of America; that is intolerable.

All of your points are skewed toward your own bias:
You turn normal relations with a neighboring country to correct problems and build the economy by trade into acceptance of crime.
You turn making it easier for parents to exercise their right to opt out a lack of respect for parental rights.
You interject the falsehood that Texas’ economy is based on illegal labor.

China did not have the Rio Grande and I sincerely doubt that the Great Wall was built a mile inside the border they wished to defend.

“We need Conservative’s to encourage their children to enter Journalism/Education “

As a vet of the MSM on the regional newspaper level, I’ll relate a story. Our editor had a standard speech that he gave to the new J school hires. It began with the following...

“Forget everything you were taught. This is how I do things.”

The MSM is controlled by two things. Ad revenue and the whim of the publisher. The former is secondary to the later and I lived through one once publishing group run itself into near bankrupcy so the Publisher could see his agenda played out. Two really but that’s another story.

My point is that unless those kids own the media outlets, their conservatism will be supressed. Hard. I cannot tell you how many of my honest stories were spiked so as to not upset one friend of the Publisher or another. And every reporter in that office could tell you the same...if they were still there. Many left out of integrety and the rest laid off. Today there are 4 where there were once more than a dozen. What’s left is real accomodating to keep their jobs.

Tolerate this. Stop acting like Mexico is more important to you than your own country and it won’t be questioned.
