Rick Perry on debate gaffe: 'I stepped in it'
Polutico ^ | Wednesday November 9, 2011 | Alexander Burns

Posted on 11/09/2011 8:30:08 PM PST by Bigtigermike

Rick Perry swiftly came to the spin room after the end of the GOP debate Wednesday night and directly told reporters that he screwed up on stage.

"I'm glad I had my boots on tonight," Perry said. "I stepped in it out there." Continue Reading

Perry froze up on stage as he attempted to list the three federal departments he planned to cut, naming Education and Commerce but forgetting the Department of Energy.

Said Perry: "I may have forgotten Energy, but I haven't forgotten my conservative principles."

Asked by a reporter if that moment was embarrassing, Perry said: "I stepped in it, man. Yeah, it was embarrassing. Of course it was."

Well, you have to remember Perry is already POTUS of a whole ‘nother country. Texas GDP is bigger than India’s.

He’s used to speaking one-on-one with companies he persuades to move their businesses and employees here, which do.

It’s hard to compress what you do everyday into sound bites or debate zingers. People who excel at saying things are rarely DOers, and vice-versa. That’s why we have spokesmen.

“Perry haters drinking their Romney Kool-Aid tonight!”

Haters???? Romney Kool-Ade?????

Perry has failed many times to live up to his billing as put forth by his ardent fans....you know, the ones that infested Palin threads touting Perry at every turn while denigrating Palin supporters......The irony of it all is not lost on the casual observer or Palin supporter......

I seriously doubt those self same Palin supporters turned into Romney fans.....Hint: look at Herman Cain’s poll numbers.........

Perry wasn’t ever really in the hunt after the first couple of weeks after announcing......and his current polling numbers show his candidacy’s lack of support among the rank and file......he is the first of the 1st tier (ahem) candidates to fold......... and in a manner befitting his experience as a pilot......

This is a crazy election cycle and I'm not counting ANYBODY out, until they quit or the election is over.

Yes he did do well otherwise. I don’t know who makes me more disgusted, Romney or all the horrible Perry bashers on F.R., they have gotten out of hand.

I don’t think Perry decided to run until about the time it was obvious Sarah didn’t plan to, actually Perry entered in June, about three months about after it was obvious Sarah didn’t mean to, so I’d be surprised if there were Perry supporters on Palin threads bashing her. But I could be wrong.

Some of the Palin supporters displayed disgusting behavior and the criticism was likely warranted.

I like Governor Palin tremendously but began avoiding threads about her because some of her supporters were downright embarrassing.

When Perry entered the race in August, the badly behaved Palin supporters got even worse.

I'm not saying you were one, but there were (still are) some awful ones.

I’ve been thinking the same thing. If it turns out later that he’s got early-stage Alzheimers that would be horrifying.

It’s hard to explain Perry to non-Texans.

I think there is another financial sinkhole about to go, soon.
Moreso than I thought even yesterday, if there’s a blowout, I’d rather Perry be here recruiting the survivors.

This is so stupid. How many people have had a thought slip their mind.

If this were the only time we'd seen Rick Perry's synaptic brain connections fail, it might be forgivable, but it's not. He's slipped in every single debate he's been in. Badly so.

Sorry, but the next president has got to have a razor sharp mind, and the ability to communicate like a real statesman. The stakes are too high to risk the future of the country on a man who is seemingly more lost than Barack Obama.

We have a good speaker in the White House now~

Who, Obama? You've gotta be kidding. He speaks well when he's reading a prepared speech from a teleprompter, but as soon as he has to talk and think on his feet at the same time, he comes off like a dunce.

And Rick Perry isn't just gaffe-prone, like say, Joe Biden. He actually has trouble putting words together in a coherent fashion. It's almost as though he's got a real neurological condition going on.

The Perry un-supporters will have to wait and see what happens.

We just did. It's over.

3”E”’s Perry...Education, Energy and the EPA...it was a simple no brainer...oh well you can still go back to being governor...

You just made yourself look no better than Perry. Commerce, one of Perry's three, doesn't begin with an "E."

When EPA was suggested, he said he'd rebuild the EPA.

CNBC's after show said Perry rattles the three off at appearances daily according to reporters so this was a simply a high profile momentary lapse.

Rick Perry is the first candidate to come with Microsoft WindozeTM ME pre-installed.

He obviously had a General Protection Fault right on stage tonight.

Abort, Retry, Fail?

Cheers!

So, if Newt wins the nomination you will guarantee that he won’t stumble in a debate? (I have seen him really blow it in debate, btw)
