Consider this, there is a sizable group of people in the electorate who are undecided and who are looking for substance. Herman Cain has zero record to base his words on.

Newt and Mitt have been on both sides of the argument too many times and Perry has the very best economic record of any candidate running.

The last poll I saw had Cain and Romney tied at 21% and Perry and Newt virtually tied at around 11-12 percent.

When you see a person up close and talk to them and get a sense of who they are and you see people mocking that same decent person, it makes you want to circle the wagons to defend the guy.

Perhaps he has no political record, but he's certainly got a long and impressive resume. Yes, he's got a record. Just not in politics.

You must not have been watching the race all that closely for the last month or so. All of those numbers have shifted drastically. Cain is running around 30%, Romney around 24%, Newt about 21%, and Perry's around 8%.

Perry is sliding into oblivion because of his terrible debate performances, and because voters have had time to do their own vetting. He's just not doing a good job selling himself, and voters aren't all that impressed with what they're finding on their own.
