Mexican man apparently killed for web comments

MEXICO CITY (AP) -- The decapitated body of a man was left Wednesday at the same monument in the border city of Nuevo Laredo where the corpse of a woman purportedly killed in retaliation for her postings on an anti-crime website had been left previously, authorities said.

A photo of the scene indicates the man was killed for reporting criminals on social media sites, raising fears drug cartels are increasingly targeting bloggers.

What the heck was that guy thinking of? Was he born yesterday or unbelievably naive? It’s Mexico for crying out loud!

90% of all law enforcement is in the pocket of the drug cartels and all levels of civil government are totally corrupt.

What did he expect? The police would protect him? The internet service would protect his identity? The criminals would not make an example of him?

Mexico is a totally lost cause and the attempt by anyone there to do the right thing is cause for one’s own demise or misery.

CW2 Ping

The internet will open up an entire new dynamic during any possible CW2. If it is a tyrannical govt vs. freedom-loving patriots, expect the govt forces to use the internet in the same way as the Mexican cartels to find and murder their political enemies.

Radical political factions will also use the internet to find and take out their own enemies. Between Google, google street view, whitepagesdotcom etc, almost anybody can be located and targeted.

Something to consider, in a CW2 context.

I recommend using a network already set-up that’s used by a variety of people around the world. That way traffic is intertwined with as many others as possible.

I’ve used TOR (https://www.torproject.org/). It allows pretty much anyone to set-up a relay node as well as use the proxy. The more nodes, the harder it is to track individual traffic.

The traffic is encrypted through the proxy network *except* the last hop from the exit node to the destination website. This is where https comes in. The real key here is to maximize the number of exit nodes that are in the hands of the “good guys.”

I’d encourage everyone concerned about web privacy to go to the TOR website and read, read, read. Setting up a node is not that difficult. You can select how much bandwidth you are willing to allocate to proxy traffic. If you’re open to being an exit node, be sure to read the particulars on it; there *are* risks to being an exit node.
