Obama SURGES In New Polls (Uh, oh)
Business Insider ^ | 11/10/2011 | Zeke Miller

Posted on 11/10/2011 9:09:51 AM PST by SeekAndFind

President Barack Obama is now polling even with a generic Republican candidate in a new Gallup poll — a measure by which he was down by eight percent in recent months — a sign that he is turning his presidency around after a miserable few months.

Incumbents running for reelection underperform in this sort of poll, which allows voters to imagine their ideal candidate running against Obama. When placed in a head-to-head match-up with the GOP field, Obama performs even better.

Obama has also gained tremendously among swing voters — who favored the generic Republican by over 20 points in September, but now are split between Obama and the dummy candidate.

In a separate poll from Quinnipiac University, Obama ties GOP front-runner Mitt Romney in the key swing states of Ohio, Florida, and Pennsylvania, and leads the rest of the Republican field.

His strategy of putting the screws to Congress for failing to pass his jobs bill and the lack of enthusiasm for his Republican opposition are certainly contributing to the bump. While by no means assuring him victory in 2012, the polls indicate that Obama has succeeded turning around months of bad poll numbers.

Two thoughts:

1. This is an outlier as many other polls don’t look great for him.

2. If it is true, I’m *this close* to just giving up on the whole effing thing, as the entire country, no, the entire world, is too stupid not to eat it’s own sh&t anymore, and there isn’t much point.

Too bad for them Gallup polls registered, not likely voters. Registered voter polls always track left, just like the media coverage since people who aren't really inserted, and do not usually vote, will simple repeat the last headline their saw or news blub they read.

Odd that Gallup still uses this obsolete polling standard.

Irrelevant. Just wait.

I remember watching a sporting match once where the “better” team looked like they were not doing so well. I made a comment about it to a guy who really knew the teams. He said, “yeah, that’s because they are playing their third string right now.”

Not that anybody is “third string”, but strategies and rhetorical “guns” will be pointed in a very different direction in a few months.

I wouldn’t worry about it.

This Poll menas nothing in 2011. Wait til January of 2012 when we add another $4trillion in Debt because of Obamacare.

Or wait til March when our 1q debt to gdp ratio makes the Eurozone look like a checking account overdraught.

I can’t see what the Obama Campaign selling point will be.

Maybe: “We’ll get it right this time... you’ll see?”

or - “Hey - we lead in the polls in November of 2011, thats all that counts”.

He loses in 2012 with a greater margin than Jimmy Carter.

We actually got in an argument with one of these people at dinner. Out of the clear blue sky, this woman said she had seen obama's speech earlier that day, and agreed with everything he said.

This woman has an excellent job working for a huge corp. When I asked her how she got to be such a big liberal, she looked at me and said she's an independent.

She watches MSNBC every night.

You're gernally correct, but a minor correction (insofar as I've been involved with statistical analysis for a long time) - many political polls do in fact track to the left, but because they poll "Adults", not registered voters (RVs). RVs provide a reliable sample of party and ideological self-identification in the year before an election event.

The best data comes from polls of likely voters (LVs) - but typically one cannot determine who is truly likely to vote until somewhere around 60 days before an election.

I certainly would avoid hyperventilating about Gallup or anyone else's poll right now. They really are meaningless in predicting the outcome of an election one year away, especially when the potential opposition lacks a viable candidate, and the incumbent is intensely disliked by a large segment of the voting population.

He is polling remarkably well considering what an awful job he is doing and the terrible state of the economy. The public WANTS to like him, and his class warfare shtick looks like it is helping him among the ignorant masses.

This is going to be a very close election and whoever we nominate better be capable of running an excellent campaign.

My fear is that if the masses don’t get it now, what’s another $4T? They only see that which directly relates to themselves. Elderly will be receiving a small increase in social security next year, and Obama will play it up to somehow get the credit???? If unemployment drops to 8.5%, the dumb asses will think it’s Obama’s plans that are working.

And never under estimate his rhetoric. He’s great at the blame game for those who take him at face value and don’t think on their own.
Bottom line....I’m worried about the poll.

I wonder what his poling numbers will be like when he actually starts spending money from the Billion dollar campaign fund he is amassing....... And yes I do believe he will accumulate that amount.... even if Soros has to foot the difference. Lucky for O he can use the taxpayers money for his campaigning and just claim it is for official Presidential business.

Once he starts his media blitz on the major networks flooding the airwaves with his message about how...."I'm going to give to you out of the kindness of my heart ..... and the Evil Republicans want to take my gifts away from you so their rich friends can prosper while you suffer" .... it will be very difficult to counter. The GOP are going to be portrayed as the evil people that want to take the candy from the poor suffering babies. And my guess is that the GOP will counter the emotional plea from the left and exhaust most of the campaign funds responding with the tired old phrase of "Giving candy to the baby Kills Jobs!"

Sadly and unfortunately the electorate is becoming increasingly complacent and are beginning to enjoy having their meals and expenses paid for by others and will be happy to receive it as long as possible. With that mindset they will gladly vote for whomever will keep the Dole coming in.

romney sucks, but not as much as zero. The only way a zero presidency could possibly be neutered is by a 2/3 conservative over-ride in the House AND Senate (that will never happen). Remember, impeachment would only yield Prez Biden (or other to be named zero VP).

Unfortunately he is not running against Ronald Reagan and we could count on that type of result. I fully do not expect any republican to win like that. There are just too many illegals who will vote, cheating, etc., that will go on to keep this piece of garbage in office. I fully expect ANY republican victory to be like 51-49 or 50.5 to 49.5. It is going to be like Bush v. Gore. Obama could lose the election like Gore and lose the total vote. I fully expect a razor close election.

I remember the 1984 election very well and don’t remember any claim.

There was a point after the first debate were RR didn’t do very well were Mondale got a boost but the 1984 election was over before it started.

By summer of 1984, there was no doubt who was going to win that election

Come on, people! This is ONE poll one full year before the election, for crying out loud. In the latest Rasmussen poll of LIKELY voters, Obama is polling at 45% job approval which is nothing for a sitting president to jump up and down about.

When I see the huge amount of hand-wringing and doom-and-gloom thinking here on Free Republic, it makes me wonder sometimes if we aren’t our own biggest enemy! If fear helps motivate you, then do whatever you have to do to stay motivated for November 2012. But let’s not keep cutting off our noses to spite our faces in the process!

Truer words never spoken. Obama will be a very dangerous opponent, just like last time. We write him off at our peril. He lives for campaigning, and is just getting started. The media will move Heaven and Earth to get him re-elected, and destroy and potential Republican candidate (look what they did to Palin, and are now doing to Cain).

Just as dangerous will be the annual conservative circular firing squads, that are already being formed. We'd better support our candidate if for no other reason than Obama represents an unprecedented threat to the future of the Republic. He's going to spend this country into oblivion if he gets a second term.
