Brewer flounders at start and end of debate (2010)
The Washington Post ^ | 9/3/2010 | Rachel Weiner

Something to make the Perry supporters feel less awful:

"At last night's gubernatorial debate, Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer (R) appeared to be at a lost for words during her opening statement, leading to some long, awkward pauses"

...

"UPDATE 9/3/10: Jan Brewer says she won't be participating in any more debates. The Arizona Daily Star reports: Incumbent Republican Jan Brewer said Thursday she has no intention of participating in any more events with Democrat Terry Goddard."

TOPICS: Politics/Elections
KEYWORDS: brewer; gaffe; perry
Just posting this to cheer up the Perry folks. Yes, it is possible to freeze during a debate, get riduculed nationally, and still win an election.

Brewer is a hero here at FR, so nobody ever wrote her off or called her a laughingstock. But she froze on her opening statement, something that you normally memorize.

She had several other gaffes in that debate as well, and then refused to do any more debates (sound familiar).

I'm not saying Perry has a chance to recover, just that here's one case where someone survived.

Why these candidates put themselves out there for criticism and ridicule by their lessors in the media is a mystery to me. To see the mental midgets on CNBC this morning giving themselves accolades for their performances at last night’s debate made it perfectly clear that these faux-debates are simply the media’s chance to attack Republicans and win the approval of their peers in doing so.

I don’t know what your talking about. She is not my hero. She ended up not signing the conceal carry on campus bill. She’s a RINO in my book. I think you may want to reconsider.

You are right, I’ve seen that; but for most who didn’t pay attention she is still a hero for their illegal immigration law.

Brewer is a great example of how no candidate is perfect.

Perry may be > than Brewer

But Obama is > than Terry Goddard.

And also AZ is more Republican than the US at large.
