The ranking Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee says the Justice Department has refused to make available 11 of 12 department witnesses called by the panel for transcribed interviews in the ongoing investigation of the botched Fast and Furious weapons operation.
Sen. Chuck Grassley said that despite the departments promises of good faith cooperation in the probe, only one witness has been provided so far - former U.S. Attorney Dennis Burke in Arizona, who resigned in August after taking responsibility for his mistakes during testimony about Fast and Furious before a House committee.
The department has refused to schedule interviews with any of the other 11 witnesses. Thats not the good-faith cooperation I was promised, and it is unacceptable, said Mr. Grassley, Iowa Republican. If this controversy has taught us anything, it is that you have to talk directly to the people who know the facts.
If Congress had relied on the departments official talking points, we still wouldnt know the truth today, he said Thursday during the committees executive business meeting.
Mr. Grassley and Rep. Darrell Issa, California Republican and chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, have been investigating the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Fast and Furious operation for several months.

The list, ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
The next time the maggots down at the DOJ even mention “gun control”, all gun owners in this country need to band together, go to Washington and make a citizen’s arrest on every one of those commie piggies. The Bill of Rights BELONGS TO US, not the commie fags in Washington D.C.
Fail! How do they call it ‘justice’?
The MSM could make a stink the size of Watergate or worse over this but of course they’ll ignore it as they dutifully go after Cain over unsubstantiated harassment claims.
They’re in the bus with Obama and I hope they all go over the cliff together.
Oops. You misspelled "just-us".
Yep. And we need to send letters and DEMAND that some current gun control laws be repealed over this. The Government tried to pull a fast one, violated a lot of laws and the Constitution and must be punished. Jail for the offenders is NOT enough. We MUST have laws repealed.
1. Sporting Purpose clause of the 1968 GCA and all associated laws after must be repealed.
2. The NFA must be repealed.
3. All current exemptions for the Government in firearms laws must be repealed and no future exemptions allowed.
4. All bans and import restrictions must be repealed. This includes the Hughes Amendment.
Nothing less is acceptable. The Government must relinquish some authority regarding firearms over F&F.
Nice posturing....Hey Senator, whats in your magazine? They are not cooperating so................now what?
The only thing "botched" was the cover up.
Amen. The final straw.
How about starting with some contempt of Congress citations and escalating from there instead of the usual mealy mouthed whimpering and simpering there Chuck?
So they are lying, to cover their own backsides. How about this then, immediate dismissal of the entire department. Seriously, why not? Not paid administrative leave pending HR review... Pink slips for gross negligence in the performance of your duties, immediately escorted out of the building by security and their badges confiscated. Any personal items in your desk, send a letter with a list in writing and they will be boxed and shipped to you. Goodbye.
With this administration I’m not sure congress has any recourse. They ignore every law they don’t like and probably wouldn’t leave if they were impeached AND kicked out.
Obama has ordered non cooperation with Congress.
Imbeach President Obama.
It is properly called “just us”
“How about starting with some contempt of Congress citations and escalating from there instead of the usual mealy mouthed whimpering and simpering there Chuck? “
The U.S. Department of “Just-us” is 11/ 12ths compliant?
What about the witness who was ‘unavailable’ because he was in Afghanistan , but was contacted by a magazine using his officially issued cellphone, ... and then changed his phone number.
Bring out the contempt of Congress warrents !!
Restore the balance of Government
You, Sir, are perfectly correct. The system is crushing us like a constrictor snake, squeezing us to death with graduated tightenings. We cannot prosper by simply adjusting to it. The freedom agenda is not advanced by slowing or stopping the trend toward oppression. Freedom is gained by pushing back tyranny and it is secured by making it impossible for the enemy to regain ground.
I think you're right about pressuring our representatives and Free Republic is as fine a place as any to start such a campaign. Not only do we need to repeal most of the law, we need to neuter the regulatory agencies and institute some strong legal protection for what is "necessary to the security of a free state".
Doesn’t Congress have the prerogative to cut off the funding for their salaries? If they don’t show, don’t pay ‘em. Ditto with Holder, who should be gainfully employed in the license-plate-manufacturing sector of the economy as it it.
Time to stop messing around and cut all of their funding.
The only thing whores and politicians understand is money. Not happy with a whore don’t ever hire her again, not happy with a politicians same thing, stop giving them money, stop payment on the check, cease and desist sending them money.
All congress need do to get any g0vt agency to respond is stop their funding.
Contempt of Congress would be an excellent start.
I recommend that the budget for the Department of Justice be reduced to 1/12 of what its request or current budget, which ever is greater. Why 1/12th? Well if the 12 requested witnesses only one was provided.
With the Obama administration I would specifically mark every dollar provided - nothing in a general fund anywhere - so the money couldn't be diverted without going through Congress.
You really want to get the attention of a Federal Bureaucrat - cut his budget, and perks, and what him turn around real quick.
I’m afraid that you’re right.
