Tomorrow's nuclear power - it becomes cold or hot? (Translated Swedish courtesy Google Translate)
Orebro University ^

Posted on 11/12/2011 8:54:01 AM PST by Wonder Warthog

Time: 18:30 to 20:00 Location: Lecture Hall T, Tech House

Sven Kullander, Professor of High Energy Physics, Uppsala University, chairman of the Royal Academy of Sciences Energy Committee

"In the wake of Fukushima accident is discussed again the future of nuclear power. The rush to replace the world's eighty percent dependent on fossil fuels coal, oil and gas. Severe climate change will probably be difficult to avoid without massive expansion of both renewables and nuclear.

Very large investments are being made to greatly improve existing nuclear reactors. Within a few decades are expected to see a new type of reactors, breeder reactors, both safer and more efficient than today's reactors. In an even longer perspective, the hope is that the hot fusion on a large scale to provide humanity with almost infinite amount of energy.

But maybe all these planned large-scale facilities to competition of small reactors that could be every man and woman were property. The cold fusion has been developed recently in Bologna can be housed in an apparatus which is not much bigger than a coffee maker and generating energy only with a few teaspoons of nickel powder.

An intensive discussion on the net have questioned the experiment in Bologna mainly by it can not be explained by the established nuclear physics theory. It has also been speculated that the derivative produced heat energy must have been greatly overestimated mainly by an overestimation of the buildup of steam. At the lecture, these issues will be treated in order to gain a better understanding of the experiment in Bologna. "

But it's a scam, don't y'know. Evidently Dr. Kullander still thinks otherwise.

Going full scale Nuclear would solve so many problems.. but our fears of “radiation” keep us from doing so.. I think, at this point, it will never be done.

It will be truly unfortunate if we allow that to happen. As fission goes, I think you're probably right.

Unfortunately, if Rossi did the following:

1) hired a bunch of actors to pretend to be the customer reps,

2) created an elaborate year-long special-effects-derived series of demos,

3) bribed, hypnotised or otherwise fooled Focardi, Levi, Kullander, Essen, Bianchini, Stremmenos

4) arranged for Piantelli, Miley and a host of others to try to fool the world into thinking that cold fusion was real,

5) got NASA, SPAWAR, The Defense Threat Reduction Agency and The Defense Intelligence Agency to say nice things about the field,

6) got Bushnell to make a fool of himself,

7) and convinced his former partners to set up another company called Ampenergo to pretend that they had a contract for The Americas for a substantial sum
-—— or that they just did this with no proof because they have worked with Rossi and trust him because he’s such a fine fellow,

8) sold his profitable company to his ex-partners in order to spend that wealth on a multi-million dollar scam;
-—— certain that once he got all the above ducks in a row he would pretend to sell the first device
-—— and then reel in the true target of his dastardly plan

9) and convinced a bunch of Greek crooks to set up a dummy company called Defkalion
-—— to pretend to fight with him over the non-existent eCat,
-—— to perpetuate the illusion and spin it off into a competing mirror-scam

[the second (this time genuine) buyer of a 1MW plant that will net him $2 million dollars
-—— until they want their money back or sucker a $100 million dollar deal under the table
-—— because he has experience in pulling the wool over all these idiotic eyes
-—— and knows that they will just take his word for it
-—— and not want to test if his 1MW plant can heat a small village without truckloads of coal or oil or a big fat electric cable coming into the container from beneath the floor (no you can’t lift the carpet!) ]

10) and that, in order to pull this off, Rossi had to risk discovery by interviewing all the people he subsequently fooled so that he could only invite the gullible Professors and not the brilliant anonymous posters on the Internet who surely would have found him out

then, yes, all bets are off and I’m with the guys who think that Rossi is an idiot and they are all geniuses.

Nuclear power plants require the government to guarantee loans and always have. The free market doesn't favor them. The most economical power source for the near future is natural gas.

Kullander sounds like a Warmist.

I wasn't aware that the ecat had been independently tested and inspected, or replicated. It seems that Kullander is jumping to conclusions.

Perhaps Kullander viewed his examination of the E-Cat sufficient "independent testing". You "do" recall that he was one of those who witnessed one the demos?

I've been thinking about Rossi's device in light of the findings by Miley, particularly Miley's seeing new elements and isotopes.

Rossi has been unwilling to stage very-long-duration demos, and some on FR have been taking that as indicating that there's some fraud in the system, and that Rossi wanted to end the demo as soon as possible before the hidden fuel was exhausted. But what if there was another reason for wanting the demo to end quickly?

What if Rossi really is achieving fusion, and the process uses low-energy neutrons to transmute nickel into copper, but in the process is ALSO producing radioactive isotopes of nickel and copper, and he needs to shut it down before they build to dangerous levels?

I sort of doubt it. The one common factor to all LANR variants I've read about is very low to no neutrons (which is one of the hot physicists key arguments against...at least in their view).

So he got to see inside the reaction chamber, measure radiation, and analyze all the before and after material?

Even if he was, what member of the Royal Academy of Science, and Chairman of the Energy Committee would squander their reputation and career for it??

Ah, but the 'enlightened' European countries (ie. France) are getting a vast majority of their power from Nuclear. So, in this they are both more mature, and more proactive than we are in America.

What I fail to grasp, is the monumental stupidity we as Americans exhibit when it comes to Nuclear Reactors. We have had nuclear Naval vessels for over 50 yrs. These are proven, battle-tested, robust designs. Yet, every .... single .... reactor... we build on land is a prototype. Every year, we re-design, re-engineer and build an entirely new reactor - we re-invent the wheel every ... single ... time. After being commissioned, built and tested; they then sit dormant while we fight Enviromentalsists in the courts.

Then, like 'tards' we sit back and wonder why they remain so expensive. As an engineer, this is frustrating as all h*ll.
