Furore over Herman Cain sex claims becomes first dirty tricks battleground of 2012 US elections

She is a celebrity lawyer who has represented numerous women in headline-making claims against the likes of OJ Simpson, Dodi Fayed, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Tiger Woods.

He is a combative defamation attorney described as "the pit bull chained to a stake guarding your house" who has worked on some of America's most high-profile cases.

And in ever-litigious America, Gloria Allred and Lin Wood have now emerged as key players in the battle over the growing array of sexual harassment accusations swirling around Herman Cain, a surprise frontrunner in the Republican presidential stakes.

At stake is the candidacy of the former fast food tycoon and political outsider who has defied the political pundits with his campaign to become the first black Republican nominee for the White House.

It is the latest in a long line of sex scandals that have unfolded during presidential campaigns since Bill Clinton overcame his "bimbo eruption" to win office in 1992. And amid a poisonous storm of claims and counter-claims, the lawyers are now involved and allegations of dirty tricks are flying....

The more I’ve learned about the allegations against Cain, the less inclined I am to believe them.

I agree with you.
None of the pieces fit in a scandal.

I hope Cain can win the Nomination, (a Miracle to overcome the Media and funded Republican Establishment for Romney the RINO).

He can then say to "The Messiah", "Do you think the Media is fair to bombard me with un-substantiated and anonymously-sourced allegations while your involement with Larry Sinclair in the back seat of a limo was un-reported to any extent at all????"

These two attorneys represent the special club and non-productive ilk of those who are slotted to make lots of money producing nothing, while Americans that were productive for our society (but making much less) have lost jobs and have been screwed over for 35 years. The system is rigged but not in favor of those who actually produce usable and tangible products.

If Cain does get the nomination (or anyone else gets it for that matter), I hope he doesn’t hold back on going after Obama like McCain did. McCain could have used the Sinclair connection, the Rev. Wright connection and the Bill Ayers connection, to hammer Obama and expose him. But “Mr. Reach Across the Aisle” refused and he lost, as a result.

This was a Dem 2fer.

Slander Cain and blame it on Perry.

Has it worked?

McCain is NOT Conservative at all; just another RINO who doesn't want to make waves, and keeps his cushy job by keeping out of the fray.

If we could have ONE Conservative Candidate, who would STICK TO PRINCIPLES and the Constitution as-intended, we would be on the path back to a REAL Country, instead of a 3rd World "Can't we all just get along?", politically-correct, appeasing doormat.

isn’t it amazing how all these sexual allegations were totally secret until Cain was a Republican front runner for the presidential nomination...

Wow what an amazing coincidence that is, almost as if they were motivated and timed to take down a political front runner for political reasons.

I don't follow this:

This was a Dem 2fer.

Slander Cain and blame it on Perry.

Cain has been the one accusing Perry, with nothing more to go on than that one of Perry's people worked in Cain's unsuccessful Senate campaign. He was still pushing that line yesterday in his interview with Neil Cavuto.

The whole operation smells like a typical Democrat operation, either masterminded by Axelrod or by some Democrat operatives independent of the White House.

For Cain to claim that he is the victim of false, unsubstantiated allegations, while he's throwing false, unsubstantiated allegations at another candidate, makes me wonder about his judgment and character.

Although I like the idea of Obama being beaten by a black Republican, do we want to trade one narcissist for another?

In my humble opinion, Cain did not do any of what he was accused.

The Dems bought the ladies to slander Cain. Then leaked that the source of the leak was the Pollster who worked for Perry.

Caine did nothing, but he thought the pollster who had worked for him was the leak. Perry did nothing but he was blamed.

So, as far as I see it. It is a 2fer. The Dems put the right English on the ball and expected to sink both in the pocket. Has not worked out that way yet.

Don’t get me wrong. I am not wild about Cain, but could vote for him.

I would rather Perry remain Governor of Texas, but if he gets the nomination I will have no problem voting for him.

I do not trust Newt at all. He is a Globalist hack, too long in DC and will not do what is necessary to fix this mess. The fix is to DownSize DC.

Romney is very little better than Obozo. I will not vote for him....

I keep telling myself, surely there is a better Republican to run for this office. Someone with huge experience and impeckable character. They are out there, but they do not want to wallow through the mud to get there. It is simply not worth it.

I was a delegate at the Texas Republican Convention when Rick Perry ran for Governor for the first time on his own (without W). I voted for him then and each time since, but I like him as governor.

I don’t trust anon sources from a lobby group. Sharon Bialek is not credible based on her past. Karen K will not give any details and filed complaint in 2nd job.

The rest are anonymous so we don’t know if they are real or imaginary. IMHO they are imaginary and created by political cronies within the NRA.

Funny how Cain worked at GodFather’s and Burger King much longer and complaints come out of those organizations.

Yes, and did you notice that this Telegraph story, like so many others, keep repeating the “2 NRA settlement” story? Cavuto even “assumed” it in his questioning the other day and Cain again reaffirmed “one claim”. Yet, the media still keep repeating “2” at NRA (plus others) as if they are fact. Idiots - or evil.

I want someone who can beat Obama, who can be a good President, and who is conservative. At this point I will vote for whoever wins the Republican nomination. I hope it isn't Romney but if it is, he would be a lot better than having four more years of Obama.

Romney is not one of us and would disappoint us on many issues, but he's not out to destroy the US and he believes in the capitalist system. We would be able to put pressure on him--at worst he would be like Ford. Obama, on the other hand, wants to destroy the US and the capitalist system, and hates us. As we have already seen, he'll pick the most radical left-wing people available. If he's re-elected he's likely to be even more extreme when he doesn't have to think about another election. (I don't think the Democrats can manage to get rid of the 22nd amendment--and if they did he'd have to contend with Bill Clinton.)

The money and support is pouring in for Herman Cain, but we cannot slow down now. Please help him by donating at http://www.hermancain.com/

Also to help join the buzz about Herman go to facebook.com and “like” him. His “likes” have jumped dramatically since the attacks started. Make no mistake Sean Hannity’s BFF Tokyo Rove is watching Herman’s “likes” and so is Romney. THIS is the way to stick it to the GOP establishment! Please tell your family and friends to “like” Herman as well. Then let’s bring out our most powerful tool for helping Herman Cain: PRAYING that God protects him from the people of darkness.
