The leaders of a powerful Mexican cartel, frustrated that U.S. law enforcement was interfering with their lucrative drug business, plotted a military-style attack on a U.S. or Mexican government building to "send the gringos a message," federal prosecutors allege in documents filed this week.
Leaders of the Sinaloa cartel sought dozens of American-made weapons for an attack in Mexico City on possible targets that included government buildings, an embassy or consulate or media outlet, according to documents in the case against Vicente Zambada, an alleged top lieutenant in the cartel.

I think the Media Outlet is a good choice for them.....
I'm shocked! /sarc
And wasn't it the feds that said we had no problems at our southern borders?
Really? With whose guns?

Bring it on, mercons.
I doubt this story. Gangs don’t go for military style attacks to send a message. The way they work is different - suddenly a family member disappears or strange accidents happen.
Sounds to me like some bureau wants more funding.
THIS NEEDS TO BE A CBS TV DEBATE ANSWER TONIGHT (8 PM EASTERN/5 PM CENTRAL) EVEN IF THE MEDIA REFUSES TO ASK THE QUESTION OR BRING UP THE TOPIC. WORK IT IN ANYWAYS, and say we are going to have a review as to whom are “friends” are and whom our “enemies” are.
LOL. The Pentagon is looking at a big budget cut as a result of a bad deal made with the Rinos and Reed. Thankfully, the skitzoid, hobbits opposed the deal and stupid.
Everybody, donate to FR and let DJ MacWoW get on with his regular life. He did nothing wrong and deserves a release!:)
...fomented by the State Department with arms supplied by the DOJ.
LOL!!!!
Big drug organizations have, particularly the Mexican drug cartels have in recent history. They have been doing military style attacks and executions of police. These Mexican cartels are pushing things as far as they go, it is a very believable story
Sinaloa cartel.
Orders to acquire thousands of American weapons.
Take direct action against the USA.
And nary a mention of Fast & Furious...
Amazing. Simply amazing.
Vicente Zambada's lawyers claim he and other cartel leaders were granted immunity by U.S. agents - and carte blanche to smuggle cocaine over the border - in exchange for intelligence about rival cartels engaged in bloody turf wars in Mexico. Prosecutors have denied that such an agreement exists.
Hey, yes, Mr. Federal Officer. We are just humble drug smugglers! But those other families are NASTY. You gotta get rid of them! Oh, si! They are going to make military attacks on you - - so you better hurry and eliminate our competition - - I mean -- stop them before they attack ju.
I meant large attacks of multiple people on multiple targets, as apposed to say a couple guys killing 1 or 2 people. No need to get snarky
It sounds like the Fast and Furious guys were helping the Sinaloa cartel attack America. That would mean that the US Justice Dept and the ATF were acting contrary to the interest of the USA under orders from the top......Sorry but this is treasonous behavior on the part of the Obama Administration if the story is correct. LET THE IMPEACHMENT BEGIN.
Indeed. It's an odd legal argument to make.
Whoever's bringing the case -- the DOJ prosecutor and the investigative team (FBI?, DEA?) -- are actually claiming that the ATF's Fast & Furious operation was arming a drug cartel who intended to attack the USA.
One of the problems with this claim is that the FBI and DEA were cooperating in the Fast & Furious operation -- actually providing some of the "straw buyers" and the money to buy the weapons! And the operation was actually being run out of the US Attorney's office (not the ATF's).
So, we have three jurisdictions who will have to claim the left hand did not know what the right hand was doing -- the FBI, DEA and the DOJ.
And it brings up a rather large question...
Exactly when did the prosecutors and the FBI learn the Sinaloa cartel was acquiring arms in order to attack a U.S. target?
Exactly when did they report this finding...and to who? It would've gone to the top, immediately, would it not have?
Did the person(s) who received this report correlate it to the Fast & Furious operation. If not, why not?
And why was the Fast & Furious operation not halted at that very moment?
There is something dreadfully wrong with all of this...
Go in and kill as many of them as possible. if Mexico objects, remind them of what happened in the 1840s when they got in our way.
You would have been right a few years ago. The cartels have morphed into military like organizations and do attack officials in Mexico regularly as well as each other in more military style attacks- even in public places and offices. They are also dabbling with terrorists so who knows what they may do.
