Opinion: The Case for Newt (and against Herman)
Jewish Journal ^ | 11/11/2011 | Sammy Levine

By now it is abundantly clear that Newt Gingrich is the best debater among the Republican Presidential Candidates. Some of Newt’s critics will grudgingly acquiesce to this fact, but still brush the legitimacy of the Gingrich candidacy aside, noting that he is an unserious candidate. However, Newt’s magnificent debating skills, his unmatched knowledge of American and political history, his tremendous command of the issues and his eloquent oratory skills should not be taken lightly

You are making the same mistake the Perry supporters did.

You mistakenly think attacking the other guy helps yours. No it doesn’t.

GOP voters are not impressed with Candidates who attack their own.

You punch at people, they will punch back

I like Newt but the writer is an idiot.

In such circumstances, it is essential for the Republicans to nominate someone who can effectively communicate why conservative values are better than liberal ones—not just economically, although, of course they are, but morally, as well. Newt Gingrich does this spectacularly, and with historical examples to support his claims.

How do you know about Newt's background and then write that? lol Is the writer trying to secretly sabotage Newt with that? I'm ok with his past but, why even write that?

You’re not seriously saying that Cain has more “political baggage” than Newt. That would be laugh out loud funny. I like both of them, but come on.

Cain is the rino..look at his past, at his wife, at his church at who he donated to after he became a republican...and NO conservative would ever accept money from or be endorsed by Rainbow Push...what Newt did 20 yrs ago in his personal life is history. His daughter wrote a letter about the lies spreading around the internet. It is how he lives his life now that matters. They all have baggage

You're wrong. I listened to the entire debate in real time.

Cain started to answer the question, then remembered that they had agreed that Newt would answer first during that segment and passed it to him.

It was an awkward pause, but not for the reason you state. If you're going to attack Cain, at least get your facts straight.

Cain has too much political baggage? You mean the non-politician conservative who had nothing to do with appeasing democrats in the name of bipartisanship? You mean the former CEO rather than eye-o-newt with his various affairs, sitting on the couch with the nazi bitch for global warming, kiss a democrats ass at any opportunity to be liked “experienced” politician? Gee, makes one wonder why anyone would choose Mr. Cain instead of that great political genius Newt. No more politicians, obama needs a Caining.

Would you consider Reagan a professional politician?

No, not at the same stage as this in his life.

At this same stage, serving as governor was only a small part of a very busy life.

Perhaps you don’t remember all of the same very smart people who ridiculed him as a dumb actor, a cowboy who would wreck the world, etc.

No conservative would hang out with Nanny Pelosi either. Also his third wife was not 20 years ago. He was cheating while he was Speaker of the House. Anyway you look at that, it’s not good.

rather then hearing yet more personal attacks directed at Cain

It's not a "personal attack" to say he is not qualified to be President.

It's just God's honest truth.

He seems like a wonderful guy.

Regretably, Dede Scozzafava wasn’t twenty years ago. He was instrumental in defeating a good Conservative congressman and throwing the election to the Democrat.

Nor was his global warming fest with Nancy Pelosi twenty years ago. Or his support for Michael Steele to continue as RNC chair, although he was clearly a total disaster.

who didn’t know if Pakistan was our friend or foe?

Oh, great foreign policy wizard, please enlighten us: which are they? They seem to be whichever they want to be on any given day.

who stated his 999 would remain in place UNLESS the politicians raised it

So, I'm guessing from both of these issues you have with Cain that you'd rather have a candidate who will blow smoke up your butt than one who tells you the truth.

He's refreshingly honest on BOTH points you bring up here. You're going to have to do better than this. Especially if you think this kind of mindless nitpicking is going to move people to one of the unelectable candidates like Perry.

I see DO NOT look at Newt’s record just bow down and worship the Cult of Personality being manufactured around Newt.

No thanks. Have no interest in repeating 2008 in 2012 with McCain 2.0

G. Gordon Liddy(VeeP)

Gotta admit that I never saw that proposed before, but I like it.

Many years ago (1980's), I saw Liddy debate Timothy Leary on a relatively liberal college campus.

When the moderator introduced Liddy, the crowd booed. When the moderator introduced Leary, the crowd cheered.

When the debate ended, Leary got polite applause. But ol' G. Gordon got loud applause and even some cheering.

Liddy talked straight, and forcefully. He won that crowd over to his side. It was amazing.

Newt remains what he always was, 80/20. 80% of the time he will make you proud and the other 20% you will be hiding under the bed wondering WTH he just said or did.

That being said he is probably still the most qualified in the field unless you really want Romney which I personally don't.

20 years ago? In 2008, Newt was telling us the era of Reagan was over.

who recently said that Herman Cain is “not qualified” to be President.

He's over 35, a NBC and has been in the Country for the last 14 years.

He's qualified.

katiedidit1 who didn’t know if Pakistan was our friend or foe?

Now you are just shamelessly lying. Cain statement on Pakistan was perfectly correct and clear. Pakistan is playing both sides. We have no clarity with Pakistan on which side they are on.

You are now KNOWINGLY lying about Cain with that statement

Glad you love your candidate.

Shamelessly lying about the others does nothing to help him

You might really want to rethink your tactics.

Long after this election people are going to remember your chosen tactics.

Really want to be remembered as a shameless liar and childish personal attack bot?

Respect is earned and can be easily lost.

You are are busy losing any respect you might of ever have had here
