Drunk belligerent stranger loses big time.
It is not my responsibility to assess the threat if the guy is in my house in the middle of the night and belligerent.
Here in Texas it is feasible to shoot if they are on your property as it is not reasonable for you to determine if they are armed.
I would never do that, but the person who has been invaded is the one that has the law on his/her side.
If you are in my house uninvited in the middle of the night you are on serious radar.
I am on red alert.

Case length for a .357 is 1.290 in ( 32.77 mm)and a .38spl case length is 1.155in ( 29.34 mm )
The .38 chamber is bored only long enough for a .38 to fit in it

That was my thinking.
You can shoot .38 special in a .357, but I imagine the reverse is a physical impossibility.

The rear of the casing would stick out far enough that you wouldn’t be able to swing the cylinder closed.
