Gingrich Leads in PPP Poll, Followed by Cain
The Corner ^ | 11/14/2011 | Katrina Trinko

Results from new poll of GOP primary voters from Democratic firm Public Policy Polling: Newt Gingrich (28 percent), Herman Cain (25 percent), Mitt Romney (18 percent), Rick Perry (6 percent), Michele Bachmann and Ron Paul (5 percent), Jon Huntsman (3 percent), Rick Santorum and Gary Johnson (1 percent).

One particularly interesting note from PPP: “There’s reason to think that if Cain continues to fade, Gingrich will continue to gain. Among Cain’s supporters 73 percent have a favorable opinion of Gingrich to only 21 percent with a negative one.”

Well I’m not convinced Gingrich can beat Romney anywhere. Cain can, which is why they are trying to destroy him. I’m not convinced that it’s not in the establishment’s best interest to push Gingrich.

Money only matters if you’re fighting the party insiders.

Gingrich, as opposed to Cain, has a huge contact file that can be tapped.

Money will start to come his way. Bet on it.

“if Newt wins, that’s OK by me”

If Newt wins, Obama wins.

He is much worse than McCain. Newt was an adviser to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac just before the housing meltdown.

He was also in favor of the obamacare mandate and paired up with Pelosi to urge for “urgent action” to stop global warming. If he is the nominee I’ll pass.

"I’m not convinced that it’s not in the establishment’s best interest to push Gingrich.

Romney seems to be consistently topping out at 25%ish, in a three way race between Romney, Newt and Cain 25% is not going to win. So the numbers do not support the assertion (pushing Newt).

I have been reading various versions of the "Newt is running interference for Romney" more then I like. Never is one ounce of proof provided. It would be great if you could provide some documentation to support the claim. Thx.

Any poll where they use actual GOP voters you get Cain or Gingrich at the top and Romney at the back. When they include massive amounts of independents you get Romney catching up. So any poll you see Romney in the lead you know has way more independents than GOP voters.

I agree. Gingrich will be an easy target for negative advertising with all his baggage. His rise is deeply disturbing.

Make no mistake: Newt has A LOT to answer for, and he’s not my first choice, as I stated, Herman Cain is.

However, he’s worlds ahead of Myth Romney, RuPaul, Ricardo Perry, and who ever that Huntsman lame-oid is. We could certainly do worse than a former Speaker who somewhat tamed Bill Caligula’s leftist impulses.

If the debates were the only factor none of the other candidates could hold a candle to him

Just when there’s feeling that I might vote for the New and Improved Newt....I see this pic.

Yeah, that’s ugly and most definitely unacceptable.

Newt never managed anything. You are delusional.

I suspect by mid-December both [Gingrich and Cain] will be out of the running. Romney will be back on top with Perry not far behind.

Somebody's got to be the last man standing, the one the Dems prefer and whom they'll attack after the nomination is secured. That man is probably Romney.

We have a bland and mushy menu to choose from, but I still think the best of the bad is Gingrich. Remains to be seen whether he can beat Romney for the prize.

New has no intentions of winning the presidency. He is running for Romney’s VP.

I’m liking this. I think Newt and The Flirt© would be an unbeatable ticket.

Of Cain, Newt, & Romney, Cain will go down the hardest. His lack of understanding of the issues will be on full display in a general election campaign. Cain would barely get 150 electoral votes.

I prefer Cain but will happily support the “not Romney that emerges in Iowa, South Carolina and Florida. If that be Newt, then I’ll support him but keep a VERY close eye on him.

After the first four states, whichever (Cain or Newt) has lost momentum, should bow out and endorse the other “not Romney” of the campaign.
