JACKSON, Miss. — Republicans will control the Mississippi House of Representatives for the first time since Reconstruction.
Though some counties were still counting absentee and affidavit ballots Monday, Republicans will hold at least 63 of the 122 seats when the Legislature convenes Jan. 3.
Totals confirmed Monday show Republican Gene Alday defeated incumbent Democrat John Mayo in House District 25, putting the GOP over the top for control of the House. Also Monday, Perry County officials finished counting votes in House District 105, where Republican Dennis DeBar Jr. beat Democrat Dale Kimble and independent Latricia Cornelson in a seat formerly held by a Democrat.
The win puts the GOP in almost complete control of state government, including both houses of the Legislature. Lt. Gov. Phil Bryant won the governor's office, and Republicans won all but one other statewide office. Attorney General Jim Hood, who won re-election last week, is the last remaining Democrat in a statewide post.

Huh ? Only 4 legislatures were up for election this year (LA, MS, NJ, VA). We took 3 of those.
Last year, and he was hardly “good.”
There should be no method too underhanded to use to gain a CONSTITUTIONAL MAJORITY so that we can extirpate modern Liberalism and Progressivism from our Constitution before they kill us all with their nonsense.

The battle against thugs/gangs/criminals/progressives/socialists/totalitarians has been going on since the beginning of civilization. The battles that were won advanced civilization.
I was looking for 3/4 majorities. They barely got in and in Virginia it hinges on the Lt. Governor riding herd on the Senate.
Well, we got 2/3rds of the VA House. You must remember that because the Democrats had control of the Senate, they badly gerrymandered the lines to ensure they’d do well. We received about 60% of the vote for those Senate races, but only got half the seats. If at all possible, the GOP should attempt a second redraw and hold a new election either next year or with the statewide races in 2013.
Or, concoct criminal charges against the few remaining Democrats in the Senate ~ which really shouldn’t be too difficult. They are all dirty. Start with Toady Puller!
Now that you have a majority please do something about your weak election laws. Please do something about the absolute corruption in Wilkinson County. Another election has been stolen.
Don’t forget IA. Rats had a 26-24 Senate majority and were using it to block much of Branstad and the solid GOP House’s agenda. Branstad appointed a Rat out the Senate to force a special election in a borderline district to give GOP a chance to tie with an off year special election. Rats ran a former TV anchor babe and outspent the GOP 3:1 to hold their block for at least another year.
True, though I don’t really count it as such since it was a single special election. Were all the seats up, I would’ve. I didn’t have a lot of hope for the seat when I found out how much the Dems pumped into the race. If the GOP had been interested in winning it, they should’ve matched the spending dollar for dollar.
The Iowa “GOP” NEVER has been too bright. How many POS RINOs have they ran against Harkin. Too many “Country Clubbers(think Nussle)”.
There is sadly much truth in your post. However I’m proudly and pleasantly surprised with Branstad’s attempted gambit here, even the their follow through fell short. He created a shot for us out of nothing and did so in clever way. At the least he made the Democrats expend a lot of $ unexpectedly.
