I don’t care for Meryl Streep’s personal politics, but she is a brilliant actress and I don’t see any issue at all with her playing the Iron Lady. She very much looks the role and it really is something that Streep plays her versus a two bit actor.
You want people who are willing to find a solution. I admire the fact that she was a love-me-or-hate-me kind of leader who said: This is what I stand for. Its a hard thing to do and no ones doing that now.
Sarah Palin did that. Sarah is Sarah and she knows exactly what she stands for.
I wonder if Meryl respects her for it?
Streep is saying what she’s been told to say. I think some studios have figured out that movies can be “Baldwined”.
Put it this way: I wouldn't waste my money paying to see Mark Levin sing, Rush Limbaugh act, or Michelle Bachmann tell jokes. Chris Christie could probably do all three. So could Ronald Reagan for that matter, but you get my point.
Meryl is an ugly woman and a pathetic actress.
Give it a rest. Streep is a professional and understands that, at its most fundamental level, a professional performance increases sales and her personal “brand.”
I disagree. I find her a beautiful woman and a stunningly brilliant actress.
Not Guilty!
One of the things I’ve always respected about Streep was the way she took care of her fiancee John Cazale (probably best remembered as Fredo from The Godfather films) when he was dying from bone cancer. Of course, that’s the decent thing to do no matter who you are. But it’s not the sort of devotion one has come to expect from a lot of Hollywood types.
I’ll probably see it. If for no other reason than that the Falklands War has always been of great interest.
Trailer does look good. OTOH I remember that the trailer for “Pearl Harbor” looked great, but the film itself stank to high heaven.
Streep understands that Conservatives buy movie tickets, too.
If Oliver Stone was not involved, it has a chance to be both good and factual.
Exactly
Wow, I didn’t know that. Enjoyed him in Dog Day Afternoon and the Deer Hunter.
Another thing was Bob DeNiro personally paid for the insurance so that Cazale could be in The Deer Hunter.....Cazale was a heck of an actor.
The funny thing was I had assumed that Streep was dating James Woods when they were filming “Holocaust” together.
My wife and I will go see this. She really wants to so I will tag along. I will give you a run down before you all have to suffer if it is bad.
I agree completely. Can’t stand her politics- but she has great talent as an actress, and I was awed by her version of Amazing Grace in Silkwood: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VK-N8wRjkSw
