The Newt Gingrich surge: Can it last?
CBS ^ | 111511 | John Dickerson, Brian Montopoli

Posted on 11/15/2011 1:06:25 AM PST by Fred

Newt Gingrich is having his moment. After a disastrous campaign rollout, a new CNN/ORC international poll shows Gingrich in a statistical tie with Mitt Romney atop a survey of which presidential candidate Republicans and Republican-leaning independents favor. (Romney was at 24 percent, Gingrich up to 22 percent - within the poll's margin of error. Herman Cain was third at 14 percent, down 11 points from October.) Gingrich was also competitive with Romney and Cain in CBS News' Friday poll and is atop a Public Policy Polling survey out Monday. (It should be noted that the PPP poll was taken using automated telephone interviews, which CBS News considers less reliable than personal interviews.)

Gingrich's roots in two early-voting states - Iowa and South Carolina - put him in a strong position to contend in those states. One new poll shows Gingrich tied with Cain atop the polls in Iowa, and an Insider Advantage survey taken November 8 showed Gingrich in second place in South Carolina, just seven points behind Cain.

Gingrich's recovery is undoubtedly tied to the fact that his rivals for the anti-Romney slot in the race have made something of a habit of self-destruction. But it's also notable that Gingrich has managed to turn his unfavorable ratings completely around among Republicans.

When Republicans (as opposed to Republicans and GOP-leaning independents) were asked in the new CNN/ORC poll their impression of Gingrich, 61 percent described it as favorable - the highest of any GOP candidate, and a ten point improvement from June. (Romney, at 55 percent, was the only rival to come close.) Just 21 percent had an unfavorable impression of Gingrich.

Note to all Gingrich Globalists. Herman Cain is the FRONTRUNNER even according to this article.

Here is an exercise for you all. Defend the negatives that are pointed out in this brand new HIT PIECE on Prof. Cornpone. Yesss, it is a hit piece, and just the first one. It is merely a pygmy dart compared to what is coming.

Newt as our nominee?
The rats are sure hoping so. He has so much baggage they won't know where to start.

4 more years of the Kenyan if Newtie gets the nomination.
Our lovely country will be gone. . . . .

Not if we can get the senate. However, I expect fall out on some of the senators from the insider trading scandal. We need 6.

I doubt GOP will get the Senate; at best, they might pick up 2-3 seats. So we’ll be in another 4 years of stalemate while Obummer circumvents the legislative branch and covertly destroys the US.

As soon as he becomes the frontrunner, the Liberal press will single him out and target him for a smear campaign, just as they have with each Republican frontrunner to come along in the past twelve months.

They’re utterly desperate to protect their man Obama at any and all costs, despite the fact that he’s the biggest crook and liar, and justgenerally the most incompetent wretch, ever to live in the White House.

For the addled exponents of socialism, the collectivist dream dies hard.

ONLY until the Far Left's "Politics of Personal Destruction" machine (aided and abetted by their shills and supporters from the biased, corrupt Lame Stream Media) shifts into high gear and moves to destroy him much the same as they have done (or attempted) to Palin, Bachman, Perry, Rubio and Cain

If Newt continues to rise, his "turn in the barrel" will be next.

QUESTION FOR ALL YOU "Romney-bots" and "Paul-anistas," who post over and over anything negative about any of the above candidates: WHY do you think "your" guy has escaped ANY attacks by the Media?

Answer: Paul stand 0 chance of getting the nod; and the Libs/O'Bummer WANT to run against Romney because they think he will be the easiest to beat.

DON'T any of you remember how Juan McPain was the darling of the Media UNTIL he got the nomination? Then they went after him tooth and nail. GUARANTEED they will do the same to Romney if he gets the nomination.

If Newt gets the nomination, his baggage will sink him and it’ll be another 4 years of the Zer0. If Romney gets it, he’ll be the next Bob Dole, and we’ll still get 4 more years of the Zer0. Unfortunately, none of the other candidates running seem to have the momentum to make it through to the primaries. Perry and Paul have pretty much flamed out already, and Cain is decelerating rapidly. Bachmann isn’t even on most voters’ radar anymore, and the rest of the field is further into the distance than she is.

Then we'll get to see how he does under pressure, when he gets drawn way from his cerebral policy pontifications and has to defend his carcass with his gut. I predict that it won't be pretty.

“Cain is the FRONTRUNNER.”

He’s not, really.

Cain is done. He has had his 15 minutes and I believe that he will continue to fade as he has been these past few weeks. As he does, his support will go to Gingrich. (Newt did a good job triangulating himself with Cain to insure that will happen.)

Santorum and Bachmann are the most conservative of the remaining candidates, but COMBINED their votes don’t hit double-figures. Ron Paul is fun, but he’s another “can’t win.”

Perry can’t campaign and what Obama and Clinton proved to us was that most of the time, that’s all you really NEED to do to win.

Romney? Well-rehearsed. Good looking. Presumptive candidate.

Do you want him? I sure as hell don’t. In fact, head-to-head with Obama, Obama wins BIG with conservatives (like me) staying home.

That leaves Newt. Certainly one of the most intelligent people who has run for office in MY lifetime (60 years.) Maybe one of the brightest EVER. A pure conservative? Hell, no. More conservative than Romney? Hell, yes.

And besides, wouldn’t you give up your arm just to watch Newt debate Obama one-on-one, perhaps in the style that Newt wants, a Lincoln-Douglas, three-hour, no-holds-barred type of event??? I sure would.

I’m sure the MSM and DNC are putting the finishing touches on their all out ‘Destroy Newt’ blitz project. It will match or exceed the ‘Kill Cain’ project in volume, intensity, and duration. All they need to do now is determine the perfect timing for the opening shots.

Once he gets it all hell will break loose one piece at a time until nobody would vote for Newtie, not even his wife. . . . .

No....

It just hit me the old Lame Stream Tactic of making it a horse race to sell air time to Archer Daniels Midland on Meet the Depressed.

They would love it OBomney, Cain and Newt neck and neck through Iowa, NH, SC and all the other early keys states so they can blather and try to mold the ignorant, and rubber necking indies and DNC drones.

Let us not let them do it.

Newt as VP I can handle, but this is a set up on personal issues just did to Herman.

It is all a setup.

Obama wants the Supremes to rule on Obamacare especially if it wins so he can further neuter Romney. like he will on being a Corporate Toadie with the OWS types which is all geared towards him.

These slime balls are moves ahead. We just can't play their game and send them Herman Cain.

At a time when America is so much in trouble - economically, ethically and morally - the best and brightest should be vying for the nomination and the Presidency. Yet, we have a cast of characters right out of central casting as to how bad the GOP is.

All of the candidates are promising to shake things up, set things right, etc. Yet, we KNOW they will do nothing, at best, or keep doing the same things over and over again. None of them appeal to the voters enough to be ahead by a wide margin. Their support runs a mile wide and an inch deep.

If I didn’t know better, I would think that they don’t want to be elected President. It would be too hard a job. So they go through this charade - RATs control the WH & the Senate and the GOP controls the House. Neither side accomplishes much and We, the people, get sc&%!ed - AGAIN.

If they can’t get Mitt...

I don’t know. I feel a bit softened up on the grinch...but the fact is, he has issues of his own and even if the MSM is having a good time with Cain right now, he HAS to know that if he does get nominated, after all the competition has been put to bed, the MSM will stop giggling and egging him on.

That’s when the gloves come off and they start ripping him to shreds. I am willing to bet that in every major bastion of Liberal power there is at least one “doomsday file” of every real, perceived or even remotely suspected transgression that can even be insinuated to have a Newt connection — and they will use them all.

I do not believe he would be able to withstand that level of scrutiny and hostile attention.

Still with Cain, here.

The mainstream regular type Americans believe every headline they see. I was trying to make the point the other day that Cain had been set up and the person I was talking to was amazed saying “wow if it isn’t true and Cain is being set up now that would be interesting!” Its like he could never think of this on his own and also he had not seen any media headlines saying “Cain set up by 0bama.”

Scare/smear tactics. Newt has been vetted already. We know what's coming. Newt knows what's coming. He is prepared to explain any and all smears sent his way. I can hear Newt now “..... do you want to talk about my marriages or about real solutions to our nations problems?” “I promise if elected president, I will NEVER sit on another couch with Nancy Pelosi” laughter erupts.

If you want an intelligent, well informed answer to questions about Libya, ask Newt next time. It's called EXPERIENCE!

Any conservative who backs Newt is an utter fool. Just take 2 hours and watch clips such as this one, from only 4 years ago, wherein Newt agrees 100% with John Kerry on Global Warming, and calls for "urgent" government action to reduce carbon emissions - even scolding conservatives for their knee-jerk responses to bigger government, demanding instead a "new, 'Green Conservatism'":

Newt Gingrich "The Evidence is Sufficient" on Global Warming

Newt now sings a different tune. He is a fraud. There are dozens of such clips. Read the Pied Piper. Conservatives who follow Newt are no different from those mesmerized children. This gasbag will say ANYTHING to win. He is a megalomaniac. You don't give such men great power.

I predict they will hold off on the significant attacks on Gingrich until after Thanksgiving.

They do not want to deflate him prematurely while he is on the rise.

Besides, Cain is not down far enough yet.

They gave Cain a few weeks as the frontrunner before they launched their smears.

It will be indefensible smears that will hit Gingrich.....things he will be unable to prove he did not do, events that he will be unable to prove did not happen.

Oh, Obama’s favorite tactic......get their hands on Newt’s divorce filings and look for the dirt his ex-wives dished on him and release those to the public.

That is how Obama won his Senate seat. That is the Chicago way.

You’re assuming that the MSM would even bring up the Zer0’s baggage. You know as well as I do that whoever the Republican candidate is will have every skeleton in their closet exposed (or re-exposed), including some the MSM will make up from whole cloth. Newt is John Edwards twice over, and you can bet that if he gets the nod, the MSM will do everything to him we all wished they had done to Edwards. It’s not a scare/smear, it’s just an observation.
