Facebook is investigating reports of a massive wave of pornographic and violent images being posted to its website.
The content -- in the form of links, videos, and images -- began to appear Monday and includes doctored photographs of celebrities such as Justin Bieber in compromising situations, acts of violence and self-mutilation and even bestiality.
"We have recently experienced an increase in reports and we are investigating and addressing the issue," Facebook spokesman Andrew Noyes told FoxNews.com. "We are always working to improve our systems to isolate and remove material that violates our terms. Protecting the people who use Facebook from spam and malicious content is a top priority for us."
The flood of explicit material appears to be linked to some sort of spam virus that propagates when unknowing users click on infected content, according to tech site ZDNet.
Facebook users took to Twitter to vent their rage, some even threatening to quit the social network once and for all.

This one: “ #3 Is a Video saying 99% of People can not watch this for more the 15 Sec. Do not open it is also a virus.” is actually a javascript element that exploits the fact you are already logged into Facebook. To call it a virus is a stretch, but it is an exploit. I actually saw this one on one of my friend’s walls, followed the instructions, and saw it was attempting an append.element and a run of some js. I was like, HELL no.... tried to isolate the code but the website delivering it only seemed to allow it if you were coming from the FB domains and servers....
You and me both. I have no idea how they make so much money. I never see any banner ads for any products. I Do use it, keeping up with family and friends. I’ve a couple of old squadron mates contact me on it; I hadn’t heard from some of those guys in almost a half-century. So, all in all, it’s been a good deal for me.

I think it’s good if you move away from your hometown, but you still want to connect with old friends.
I grew up in Texas, but moved to California over 20 years ago. I love being in contact with old high school and college friends.
Sorry to burst your bubble but my friends and I have been having to delete 20-30 images a day for a couple of days. The images shown have had Jesus involved in every sex act you can think of. Then there’s the gay porn and today animals at various stage’s of mutilation.
My guess is it’s the Anonymous hacker group because they said last week they were going to attack FB starting Monday.
Sorry to hear that. I guess (so far) I have been lucky. I am sure that is the last thing you need to see. Hope they fix it. The only problem I have with the story is that they went to the competitor to complain instead of just complaining to the Facebook management and at least give them the opportunity to check it out.
