New poll shows majority support Scott Walker recall

Gov. Scott Walker has lost support among his Republican base, according to a poll released Tuesday that shows a majority of respondents want to recall him from office.

The Wisconsin Public Radio/St. Norbert College Survey was released the same day that Democrats, labor unions and others, angry over his moves to curb union rights, began circulating petitions to get the 540,000 signatures needed to force a recall election next year.

The poll showed that 58 percent of respondents believe Walker should be recalled from office. That compares with 47 percent who said in April that he should be recalled.

The growth in support for a recall came, surprisingly, from Republicans. In the spring, only 7 percent of Republicans supported recalling Walker but that grew to 24 percent in the fall. Support among Democrats held mainly steady at 88 percent in the spring and 92 percent in the fall.

Pollster Wendy Scattergood said Republicans who support recalling Walker are younger, have a lower income and are less educated than the rest of the sample in the poll. They also describe themselves as less conservative than other Republicans, she said.

Republican Party spokeswoman Nicole Larson dismissed the poll, saying the genuine feelings of voters can be found talking to those who are saving money thanks to Walker's policies designed to hold down taxes.

"Governor Walker is leading Wisconsin forward and the voters of this state will continue to support his responsible leadership," Larson said.

The decline in support also showed up in Walker's approval rating. Overall, 48 percent of survey respondents in the spring disapproved of the job he was doing. That increased to 58 percent in Tuesday's results.

Among Republicans, only 9 percent disapproved of Walker's job performance in the spring but that grew to 21 percent in the fall.

The telephone survey of 482 Wisconsin residents was done between Nov. 1 and Thursday. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 5 percentage points.

Either the poll is a lie or the “republicans” are morons.

Well somebody from FR will dissect the cross tabs and see if this really amounts to anything. I don’t have the time but my guess is (if the Prosser election is any indication) that this is not the case.

Wisconsin Public Radio? Oh, yeah, we really believe them. They are so politically neutral and objective.

I really just don’t understand the stupidity of some voters and the knowing corruption (”yeah, I know he’s just an honest conservative, but f*** him because he’s making me pay for FIVE PERCENT of my own benefits”) of others.

By any objective measure, Walker’s reforms are a huge boon to school districts and other public employers.

Nor is Walker (like Ohio’s John Kasich) a personally “in your face” sort of guy. Nothing wrong if he WERE, but my point is, he looks and acts like Milton the Accountant or Pharmacist. This isn’t exactly a raging Woody Hayes type here.

Yet they hate him so very much.

Wisconsin, if you recall him and uproot these reforms of his, and go Ohio’s route, you are financially damned. And you will deserve it. (And as a Californian, I know whereof I speak — but it is too late for us here. Wisconsin still has a chance.)

not to worry, because when they fail (and they will) they will just blame it on Bush or some other Republican boogyman.

Public released “polls” are extremely effective professional marketing tools, especially for the left, to control people.

Why anybody pays attention to them with the history of how fake and manipulated polls can be is still amazing.

What significant Republican groups are publicly supporting Gov. Walker? Support for him should be on all airwaves, 24/7...if there is such support.

Why would anyone want to help pull the wagon when one can ride in it? Gov Walker is taking some easy money away from the Public Service unions. Why should any one be surprised the unions are mad as heck?

It doesn’t.

The St. Norbert poll has been laughed at by our side for ages. Liberal hackery at its finest.

i doubt it,

but if that’s the case,

then give wisconsin to the unions

and let wisconsin fail.

there are low-tax, non union states that will gain businesses.
