A former child-abuse victim himself, former football grad assistant Matt Paknis believes Joe Paterno knew about Jerry Sanduskys alleged sexual abuse against children years ago.
Paknis joined WFANs Mike Francesa on Tuesday to talk about his time at Penn State.
Paknis was a graduate assistant on the Nittany Lions football staff in 1987 and 1988. He says Sandusky exhibited questionable behavior towards the players back then.

The plot thins.
I had read that Paterno had also given his wife the lease to the house for a dollar.
Since there’s no tax advantage or legal advantage for doing so, it can only come down that he’s protecting his assets from any civil lawsuits.
Kinda indicates that he had knowledge of his Sandusky’s activities.
I prefer, “The plot sickens”....
Imo anyone who thinks joepa was in the dark is delusional. He knew, he covered it up he approved.
Won’t be long till we get actual proof that 2nd mile/sandusky was pimping boys for donations. Just like the reporter who broke the case said on the radio last week.
Ever wonder why joepa had this immense influence? Because he had this dirt on everyone.

Mike McQueary’s statement to police doesn’t say he stopped attack or notified police about Sandusky allegations

Or....”the slot pickens.” :)
It is amazing how one person is found by the media to have the opposite view of most that have been interviewed and people on this forum jump in line.
The person interviewed is making assumptions, he has no facts. The ‘pimping’ reporter has gone silent, is that because they had no facts?
Let’s allow the legal process to proceed before we convict.
Do you really think if Paterno was covering up they would have continued to allow Sandusky access to the campus? They would have told him to stay away and would have had the leverage to do so. Let’s start using common sense and stop the wild accusations.
Most likely answer: Paterno knew about the 1998 incident where Sandusky admitted to showering with a young boy.
Then there was the 2002 witnessing of anal sex in the shower with Sandusky and a boy who appeared to be around 10 years old.
When Paterno was told of this it was almost certainly the SECOND time (if not the third or fourth or fifth) he was made aware of Sandusky in the shower with a young boy.
Almost 10 years later, they grew used to seeing Sandusky parading a bevy of young boys around PennState. And nobody thought anything of it after (at least) two reports of this guy in the showers with boys?
Strains credulity even more.
Yeah, right.
Lawyer: "You say anything about it happening and we'll make sure your name is all over the front page of every PA newspaper."
Common sense?
I’m common, I used my own sense and drew my own conclusions.
Consider that penn st hs been the most lgbt friendly campus in the country for a decade or more.
Consider that the campus admin are mostly gay.
Consider all the reports saying joepa had some dictaorial control over the intire institution.
Consider that most gay men become gay after sexual buse in their childhood or teens years.
Dude, i’m sorry if you like penn st footbal, but it was paid for by the prostitution of young boys. In my common opinion.
Here’s the most damning thing.
Jerry Sandusky was a coaching legend, the architect of “Linebacker U”. He’s 55 years old. No other program contacted him for a coaching job, at least publicly, why is that?
As one of my co-workers pointed out, when was the last time you saw Joe Paterno at a Penn State game wearing a headset? I honestly can't remember when.
If he isn't wearing a headset, he isn't calling any plays in the game. If he wasn't calling plays about football, his area of expertise, then it is entirely possible that he was clueless and just being paraded out to promote the Penn State brand.
If he's clueless about football, it is entirely possible that he is also clueless about what went on off the field.
We have a presumption of innocence in this country until all the facts are in.
The “reporter” who made the “pimping out the boys to PSU donors” charge, was one who started connecting the dots (back in April). He is Pittsburgh sports talker Mark Maden. And no...he has NOT backed away from the “pimping” out aspect of story.
You are correct on that point.
It is up to the state to prove otherwise.
Coaches didn’t always have headsets. Joe came from a different time, he still did things the same way he always did, why change?
It is amazing how one person is found by the media to
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
What is really surprising (well??) is they found this guy BEFORE finding a single girl friend, or for that matter schoolboy friend of the Occupant of the White House......or college transcripts etc etc etc
I predict that this case is going to become a new version of the Kennedy Assassination controversy. For the rest of the century folks will write books and produce documentaries about this. There will be analogies to the “Grassy Knoll” and the “Railway Men”. It will only serve to confuse the general public...but the general public will still spend big buck$ on those books and documentaries. Mindless...but addicted.
..Strains credulity even more....

He is using the M Jackson defense.
Yeth, I slept in the same bed with all those young boys but it didn’t mean anything.
Also, in the same vein, how may willing parents turned their young lads over to Sandusky, much like those did with Jackson???
The power of the dollar $$$$$$$$$$
One thing I have heard, but not expounded upon, is that most if not all of Sandusky’s victims were minorities.
Perhaps that contributed to the attitude around Happy Valley of ‘that is just ol’ Jerry’.
It wasn't like he was raping anybody anyone cared about - not local boys - or a minority who could run a pattern for PennState - just another “troubled youth”.
Absolutely. I mean, the courts found OJ innocent, didn't they?
Thanks, abb.
I think he had more power in the state of Pennsylvania than anybody.

EVENING OF EXCELLENCE - SECOND MILE AND PATERNO SHARE SALUTE
Lancaster New Era (PA) - Thursday, March 20, 1997
Author: GREG GRASA
HERSHEY - It was billed as A Celebration of Excellence, a special evening honoring Penn State head football coach Joe Paterno.
But Paterno himself was the first to point out that this night really was a salute to his assistant, Jerry Sandusky , and The Second Mile organization that Sandusky founded nearly 20 years ago.
It should be a tribute to Jerry Sandusky and the volunteers in The Second Mile, Paterno said of his defensive coordinator, who has been an assistant coach for 29 of Paternos 31 seasons as head coach. These are special people, its a special project and I just feel privileged to be a part of it tonight.
A crowd of about 600 filled the Hershey Lodge and Convention Centers main banquet room Wednesday night to honor Paterno and support a noble endeavor. The Second Mile is a charitable organization that gives disadvantaged youth a second chance. More than 105,000 children across Pennsylvania are currently benefiting from the organizations network of eight prevention, early-intervention and community-based programs.
In the environment were in right now, Jerry and The Second Mile really prophesied what was going to have to happen with welfare - helping people without having the federal government or the state necessarily do it, Paterno said. That private sources could do it and could do it well. The Second Mile is a great example of what people can do who have leadership and who want to do it without a massive bureaucracy.
Sandusky , whose organization grew out of his own experience as a foster parent, credited Paterno for allowing him the time to nurture The Second Mile and his extended family over the years.
The Second Mile owes a lot to the Penn State football program and Joe Paterno, who allowed me to divert some of my attention to establishing our organization, Sandusky said. I dont believe there is another major football program in the country in which that could have happened.
In light of that, Wednesdays event was an appreciation of both Paterno and The Second Mile. Gov. Tom Ridge and Republican state Sens. Robert Jubelirer and David Brightbill headed a list of luminaries in attendance, which also included a Whos Who of Penn State athletics.

Patriot-News, The (Harrisburg, PA) - Wednesday, November 7, 1990
Author: Frank Cozzoli, Patriot News
Jerry Sandusky was saving kids from falling through societys cracks long before President Bush used his Thousand Points of Light slogan during his campaign for the White House.
Yesterday, the President honored Sandusky and the 500 volunteers of the Second Mile as a Daily Point of Light in recognition of a program that has given thousands of Pennsylvania teen-agers a second chance at success.

PATERNO SAYS HIS SPEECH AT GOP CONVENTION IS NO BIG DEAL
Philadelphia Inquirer, The (PA) - Tuesday, August 16, 1988
Author: Robert Zausner, Inquirer Harrisburg Bureau
Joe Paterno ended more than a week of silence yesterday about the controversy over his speech for George Bush at the Republican National Convention by saying its not really a big deal.
I was asked if I would do something by a guy I like very much, a guy I respect very much, and Im doing it. Period, said the Penn State football coach, who is scheduled to give the seconding speech for Bush tomorrow night.
I thought it would be an honor for me, an honor for Penn State and an honor for the state of Pennsylvania, he said, and Im a little bit surprised at the reaction. I didnt think it was that big a deal, to be frank with you.

PATERNO WILL TRY TO GIVE BOOST TO BUSH S CAMPAIGN
York Daily Record (PA) - Wednesday, September 23, 1992
Author: TOM ADAMS Daily Record staff writer
President George Bush is calling on an old friend to help him win over the people of Pennsylvania.
Bush is making a campaign stop in State College today, and hell be announced by Penn State football coach Joe Paterno .
It will be the second time that Paterno has introduced Bush during a trip to the Penn State campus. The first was in 1980, during Bush s unsuccessful campaign against Ronald Reagan for the Republican nomination.
I consider it an honor anytime somebody introduces the president of the United States, Paterno said Tuesday. Im not asking everybody to agree with everything hes done or what he wants to do, but I still think its a great honor for me. I was pleased that they asked me.
In 1988, after Bush won the nomination, Paterno was asked to second the nomination at the Republican National Convention.
Hes somebody that Ive gotten to know and like very much, Paterno said. Hes been very interested in my family. Hes written to my boy, Jay, whos a graduate student at Virginia. Hes dropped me notes. Hes called me at different times to ask me how things are going. Hes a person I enjoy being around and that I admire very much.
(snip)
We need the death penalty for this un-Godly scum.
He admits he took no physical action to stop the attack, so it would be more accurate to say that the attack stopped because Sandusky saw him.
McQueary did not leave with the boy but left him in Sandusky's hands, so what McQueary did was still despicable and he is still whining as if he is the victim!
Now, if he told the police, there should be some kind of police report on that.
The property transfer smells to high heaven. There is legal precedent for voiding such asset transfers in cases of pending civil or criminal litigation. I’m not familiar with PA law, though.
But the thought just occurred to me, will one of these guys get a “deal”, in order to convict someone else?
Lawyer: "You say anything about it happening and we'll make sure your name is all over the front page of every PA newspaper."
FREEPERS (because we are so smart): IOW, Jerry remembers the name of the young boy. In fact, Jerry probably remembers every single name and the details that go with each name.
The interim coach has been there for 30 years!
Sandusky walks around a free man, as if nothing happened.
If that’s the case, two words: Death Sentence. For the Penn State football program, if not Sandusky.
Because current players should be punished for something an assistant coach, who retired 12 years ago, did. Current players have probably never heard of the guy...but lynch them anyway.
He's going to be implicated no matter what happens so he's doing the wise thing and protecting his assets for his wife who had nothing to do with this scandal
If Paterno knew all these years and was afraid of lawsuits why did he wait until July of this year to protect his wife's assets? He could have done it years ago.
Ever heard of George Welsh? Left Penn State to coach Navy, then went on to UVa.
We don’t know when he knew.
I’m he was counting on retiring before it hit the fan.
Can someone help me out here? I was out of the loop for a few days and I don’t know how this whole story broke. What happened that brought the whole thing to light?
The grand jury report was mistakenly made publicly available on the web.

It looks like the administration knew about Sandusky for at least the last 14 years. The penalty should be no football scholarships for the next 14 seasons. Those students already there on a football scholarship will be have their agreements honored or be helped to transfer elsewhere, but no incoming students to get a football scholarship.
Wait...I though he knew everything....
Ahh! Interesting.
How did the grand jury come to be seated? Someone came forward recently, or what?
Paterno always let his D-Coordinator call the D. Offensive play calling is done “by committee” most years. O-coordinator upstairs calls the plays down to the sideline where they are wagged in. Sometimes a play gets substituted by Paterno or the QB coach. It’s always been a kludge.

Lawyer Says Alleged Sandusky Victim Will Testify to Severe Sexual Assault
By BILL PENNINGTON
Ben Andreozzi, a Pennsylvania lawyer representing one of eight alleged victims in the Penn State sexual child abuse case, called Jerry Sandusky a coward on Wednesday and said that Sanduskys recent comments on television had emboldened his client to pursue sexual assault charges against Sandusky.
Mr. Sandusky suggested in some of his comments about the victims that maybe people were backing off, Andreozzi said in a telephone interview from his office in Harrisburg, Pa. My client heard that and has dug in his heels. He is feeling more comfortable about going through with this. The comments maybe backfired. They have caused victims to be more motivated to testify against him.
snip
Andreozzi added: I have my finger on the pulse of this case. I dont know of any existing assault victims changing their story or refusing to testify. To the contrary, others are actually coming forward.
Andreozzi, whose practice has specialized in child sexual abuse cases, also said he was upset that Penn State had not reached out to any of the victims.
snip
He had an exercise machine delivered to his home today.
Back when Penn State was an “Independent” they put a lot of assistant coaches at other independent programs. That’s like 30 years ago, but Navy, Rutgers, Temple, UVa, are a few off the top.
A mother of a boy came forward about 3 years ago and SHTF.
I prefer *the plot sickens*
I know when you have a successful football progrem, coaches are raided by other schools.
It seems odd for coaches to stay at one place for so long and not have any ambition to move on to a head coaching job.
Bill Parcells, in his autobio. stated that is what asst. coaches are looking forward to, their own hc job, not remaing asst. for the rest of their careers.
"This boy has no family...it'll be as if he never existed...all that's left is our friendship."
