DES MOINES, Iowa, November 15, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) - An Iowa baker who politely declined to provide a wedding cake for two lesbians based on her Christian values may face legal action from the couple.

Same-sex “marriage” was legalized in Iowa in 2009 by the state Supreme Court, and a 2007 state civil rights act disallows discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation in matters of employment, education, housing, and public accommodation.

On Tuesday KCCI 8 Des Moines interviewed Trina Vodraska and Janelle Sievers, who said they were “shocked” when a local wedding cake business owner declined to provide the confection for their ceremony.

“It was degrading, you know, it was like she chastised us for wanting to do business with her,” said Vodraska.

Victoria Childress, who runs the business from her home, said she told the couple that she was unable to give them a cake based on her Christian convictions. Both she and the couple say the conversation was cordial.

“I didn’t do the cake because of my convictions for their lifestyle. It is my right as a business owner. It is my right, and it’s not to discriminate against them,” said Childress.

“It’s not so much to do with them, as it’s to do with me, and my walk with God and what I will answer (to) him for,” she added.

“They thanked me for being honest with them. They were very pleasant. I did not belittle them, I did not speak rudely to them. There were no condescending remarks made, nothing.”

The news station reports that the couple is unsure whether to file a civil rights complaint with the state. However, the couple has since reportedly released a statement calling Childress a “bigot,” and the baker says she has been deluged with hate mail that she has stopped reading.

“It’s really hard to read things like that,” she told FOX News. “I’m a pretty quiet, soft-spoken person. But when I stand up for my convictions against things, I’m very strong when it comes to that.”

Christian businesses in America, including reception site owners and photographers declining to service homosexual couples, have routinely been targeted for lawsuits and harrassment in states that have legalized same-sex “marriage” or civil unions. Often the complaints spread through media, particularly gay blogs, where gay rights supporters are encouraged to keep up pressure on the offenders.

Wow, I stand corrected, and am surprised to hear that.

Yes. You have to stand up, forcefully, to these bullies every time and not show one sign of fear. I’m afraid that too many people do these days.

Good ideas .

Maybe we need to go to their websites, find their queer owned businesses and then ask them to print anti queer posters, go into their bars , their places and wear traditional marriages or it’s not broken , it has worked why change it to a few shirts etc.

Once we sue, we get the money and it goes back into fighting them just like they do to us and the rest of the country.

They know most do not accept their agenda, they know most never will so they use PC , lies and get into positions of power like judges to make laws.

you ever seen muslim websites, queer websites etc?

They give their followers info on where to go, where to move into town to take it over quietly, where to do business, how to sue, what judges and lawyers are on their side, what paperwork they need , what and where their advocates are.

Now imagine if Christians had sites like this and was told where to sue to get money and what to do with that money they win?

They have most of the pro cross dressing queer media so they know their sites will never be exposed and don’t rely on phony conservatives like Hannity who will never mention conservative social issues.

I believe you are right. I remember a similar case in New Mexico, and the New Mexico law made it very clear that “We Reserve The Right To Refuse Service To Anyone” is another way of saying, “I want to go to jail”.

Now, is that right? Absolutely not, and I think any of the Founders would be shocked and disgusted by our nation. That was why, even as a young child, I was confused when the civil rights movement said people had to do business with other people regardless of the desire to do so. Although my parents were strong supporters of full rights for blacks, they also could not imagine a world where a business owner HAD to do business with anyone.

I’ve got a part of my house that could easily be converted into a 2 room apartment, providing inexpensive housing. I will NEVER do so. Why? Because I cannot tell someone, “I don’t want a couple of faggots having sex under my roof.” The moment I said that, I might as well hand over the keys to my house, because when the law was done with me, they would own my house.

See my tagline? That is exactly how I feel.

No it isn’t. The tools used for smoking bans are now just being used against you. As a private business owner, it is not your right to chose a target market. You can even thank a few FReepers that celebrated the trampling of that right.
