Hmmm ... if you're right, that explains a lot to me. But I doubt that you're right. Good grief, my youngest child was old enough to vote for Reagan in 1980, and proud to do so. She's now the grandmother of three. I don't think FR is a mostly 30-something group. (Most of us might say "too" young.)
On the other hand, hmmmm....
“The smear-machine will crank up on anybody who polls near the top......except Romney.”
During the primaries. However, and God forbid, if Romney gets the nomination, they will turn on him so quick. They only care about one thing....Obama being reelected. IMO they think Romney is the weakest opponent to Obama (regardless of what polls say), so they want him to win the primary. Plus, they know many of us will never vote for Romney....even against Obama. So, they want him to win. If he wins, then Obama easily wins.
The only satisfaction I will receive out of a Romney GOP nomination is to watch the shark attack on him by the media. They chide conservative Christians for questioning Romney’s Mormonism.....but you watch them dig up EVERY historical dirty fact about Mormonism if he gets the nod. The information about the strangeness (unChristian) practices of Mormonism and the sordid past of characters like Joseph Smith (the 19th century’s L. Ron Hubbard) are readily available IF the press decide to turn on him.
Also, Paul’s followers won’t vote for anyone but Paul....they will vote for the Libertarian candidate in the general election....probably Ron Paul. That will be a comedy.
So, although we will have to endure 4 more years of the Obamination of Desolation, I will get some laughs out of it.
This is shaping up to be the worse election since I first voted. I could have voted in the 72 election, but military service interfered. My first election was 76. My favorte elections, were of course, 1980 and 1984. I was also somewhat interested in the 1988 election because I though G.H.W. Bush was going to be a continuation of the Reagan dynasty. I was wrong of course. Although, I still like G.H.W. Bush as I did his son G.W. Bush. Not perfect....but certainly better than Democrats.
“People ask, how can this epic failure of a president, who’s presiding over an economy in tatters, with Carter-like unemployment numbers and inflation heating up, possibly win a second term? It’s never been done. I was of the same mindset, but in the past two weeks it’s been looking more and more like a reality. I, for one, am very worried about this next election.”
Amen! If Newt or Cain don’t get the nod and Romney does...we are toast. Goodness, where is Ronald Reagan when you need him?
“Gingrich CHEATED on both wives.”
And you know the details how?
“People of integrity dont cheat on their spouses.”
Sure they do... And their spouses cheat on them too.
And Mussolini was said to make the trains run on time. Does anyone recall what Jimmy C. and the Long Island Railroad have in common? They both pulled out of Rosyln by 7:15. I crack myself up.
It’s 2011. Reagan has been dead since 2004. I’d say the era of Reagan is over. In fact, I’d say the era of Reagan was over before the end of GHW Bush’s lone 4 year term.
But definitely at his death.
Is that hard to figure out????
“The era of Reagan is over” was a complaint about the election of Barack Obama, not a victory dance on Reagan’s grave. Have the integrity to put it in context, or don’t complain when someone does it to your candidate.
Unless you are to pretend Obama continued the era of Reagan, it was an accurate statement. The election of an unabashed Liberal President denoted a new era in the American electorate, one that did not exist when Liberals had to run as Conservatives to win squeaker elections.
It’s a new USA now, a different era, where Liberals start with 200 EVs and go from there; they used to have trouble winning two states if they weren’t successful hiding their Liberalism. Now they run openly as Liberals and win half of the elections.
Newt was Pro-Reagan when most of the candidates on stage wanted RR ousted. His declaration was a lamentation of the change in the American electorate, not a taunt.
Well just for your info, I am 42 and could not vote for Reagan either time. The youngest FREEPER who could vote for Reagan is 46. That is why I said 1/2 are younger than being able to vote for Reagan. I mean we can’t have more than 50 percent of FREEPERS above 46 could we?
I’m guessing the number is much higher. :^)
Even the name Cat Dancing goes back to the early 70’s. Think Burt.
Well since I love everyone on Free Republic, I am cool with that. :)
You don’t even have to go that far. I remember him throwing Rep. Ryan and his “radical” budget under the bus earlier this year.
I agree with everything you said.
I’m all about keeping Romney off of that ticket.
My agenda is Conservatism. Yours is apparently electing RINOs.
Apparently not, or else they willfully ignored it.
I have no agenda, but I know trolls when I see them.
Well keep looking and you might find one.
