Bachmann: Gingrich was paid to 'influence' Republicans for Freddie Mac
CNN ^ | 2011-11-16

Webster City, Iowa (CNN) - As Newt Gingrich denies he was paid to lobby Republicans for mortgage giant Freddie Mac, fellow Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann on Wednesday challenged Gingrich's denial.

"Whether former Speaker Gingrich made $300,000 or whether he made $2 million, the point is that he took money to also influence senior Republicans to be favorable toward Fannie and Freddie," Bachmann said after a campaign event in Webster City, Iowa.

No, the objective is to elect a conservative. Replacing a Marxist with a fascist does no good...in the short or the long run!

Wow - You've rubber-banded that about as far as it will stretch. Hope it doesn't snap on you -

on second thought

Newt just said he only did it because he wanted to help poor people get into homes, guess that leaves no question as to his support of the community reinvestment act. Interesting. He still supports and wants to improve the “Community Reinvestment act.” So you people need to get off dodds and franks rump. ROFLOL, just said so on mark's show.

She’s Mittens’ attack dog. She NEVER says a bad thing about Mittens. I used to like her until it became obvious that she was just an attack dog for Romney... The 1%’ers need to just drop out - Huntsman, Santorum, and Bachmann. Paul won’t drop out until well into the primaries, if even then. Newt has plenty of warts, but the guy led an unbelievable revolution in 1994 - and I love how he doesn’t take crap from the MSM. Bachmann’s only game is to attack whoever surges ahead of Mittens.... first Perry (Gardasil), Cain (the wimmen), and now Newt (Freddie). Sure, she goes after Obama but acts like she is the only one in Congress who wants to repeal Obamacare and all the other crap sandwiches. She isn’t the only one. In a way, Pawlenty was right - she spouted a lot of “I led the fight” but what did she actually accomplish?

SHE HAS NO PROOF OF THAT STATEMENT

Ahh, yea. Newt's my second choice, but still, she's right about that. He was hired to be a spokesman for Freddie and that's what he did. And no, he didn't do any lobbying; notice how when the issue came up Newt was very quick to make the issue about whether he did any lobbying or not. He can easily, and truthfully, defend himself from such charges and so that's the level on which he wants to defend himself. That's political experience there on his part.

I was a big time Bachmann supporter until she went after Palin. This latest stunt is just plain nasty. The idiot should let the media do her bidding.

This b!tch is too stupid to be President.

You say: “It’s obviously true. He claims they hired him as a historian. Yeah, right.

There is nothing dishonorable about being a lobbyist.

After all, the Constitution guarantees us the right to petition the government for redress of grievances. But when the grievance is that the government is giving mortgages to unqualified people, and Gingrich is supporting it, then criticism of him is valid.”

New has/had a consultant firm. He was hired as a CONSULTANT, not a lobbyist.

His advise, after looking into their scheme was, ““I offered them advice on precisely what they didn’t do,” he said. “My advice as a historian, when they walked in and said to me, ‘We are now making loans to people who have no credit history and have no record of paying back anything, but that’s what the government wants us to do.’ As I said to them at the time, this is a bubble. This is insane. This is impossible.”

but don’t y’all interrupt your “Dancing With the Stars” viewing time to do any research. I once worked at a school that endorsed abortion for kids without parental consent. I refused to sign off on it and we agreed I would “not be invited back” the following year to consult.

Now, if someone wanted to, they could say that I was working in a school, in a department that was DIRECTLY involved with deciding that issue.

No matter that I may have advised against and eventually left because of my convictions or because I didn’t like it or because it didn’t pay enough, it could truthfully be said that I was employed by them in an advisory capacity when the policy was adapted..

I’m a little touchy on the subject of hearing the whole story, you see. You can make history tell you anything.

I doubt Newt did much influencing for that $200,000 per year free money. Freddy/Fanny was spreading tens of millions around Washington and Newt was lucky enough to get some of that sleaze money. I’ll still vote Newt with no problem

Probably he was = but as he got looking into how they planned on ding it, He told them it wouldn’t work - that it was “insane”

I fervently hope there are some FREEPERS who will do independent research and not carry water for the demRats and media

From Ann Coulter's Column Today:
For the amazingly good price of only $300,000 apiece, Fannie and Freddie bought the good will of former Reps. Vin Weber, R-Minn., Susan Molinari, R-N.Y., and Newt Gingrich, R-Ga.* Former Sen. Alfonse D'Amato, R-N.Y., was even cheaper at $240,000.

[*Correction: After Gingrich admitted last week to receiving $300,000 from Freddie, we found out this week that it was actually closer to $1.6 million.]

So now conservatives shy away from denouncing these crooked organizations for fear of running into Vin Weber at a cocktail party.

Sorry, guys -- on the plus side, you're millionaires, but on the downside, you've earned the contempt of your fellow man.

She’s Mittens’ attack dog. She NEVER says a bad thing about Mittens.

Hadn't thought about it that way - but it makes sense.....Maybe hoping for the VP spot or a nice post in DC?

It wouldn't be the first time people jumped on the campaign slate as a shill, in exchange for goodies down the line.

She's attacking Newt, but has she said one word about Cain calling her - (not just a woman, but a Congresswomen,) "Tutti-Frutti"?

Indeed, he's gotten a complete pass on that. Just imagine the furor of Perry or Newt had said that.

Duh, he was just on mark levin's show and said he support helping poor people buy homes"

that's the premise he was given by Fanny and Freddy when they asked him to consult - nothing wrong with such a goal. But after he looked into their scheme, he gave them his opinion: "I offered them advice on precisely what they didn’t do,” he said. “My advice as a historian, when they walked in and said to me, ‘We are now making loans to people who have no credit history and have no record of paying back anything, but that’s what the government wants us to do.’ As I said to them at the time, this is a bubble. This is insane. This is impossible.”

and that's the rest of the story. But never let the whole truth get in the way when a half-truth serves your purpose.

Duh -
