(CNN) - Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich will not release more Freddie Mac-related documents, according to campaign spokesman R.C. Hammond.
Though the contender for the 2012 GOP presidential nomination said Wednesday that his campaign would "do what they can" to release more information about payments he received as a consultant from the government-backed mortgage group, Hammond backtracked later in the evening.
When asked via email whether the campaign would release more Freddie Mac-related documents or if a fact sheet it released in the afternoon was the last word on the issue, Hammond responded to CNN, "last word."

I am very conservative but I don’t give a hoot about his consulting. No one gives a crap about Franklin Raines getting millions in severance for destroying the entire economy with loans to people who could’nt ever pay them based in part because of race. Talk about that and then we will yawn off some more on Newt telling those idiots to stop making those give away loans guaranteed by the taxpayers!! Give me a break.

Newt needs to convince the voters that there is nothing behind this $1.6M consulting services gig, not his opponents.
If there is nothing more to his consult than his suggesting that the Freddie plan was a bad one then why all the fuss?

Gingrich has said that he didn't lobby for Freddie Mac and sources cited in NPR and Bloomberg News reports confirm that.<
So really what this whole bogus kerfuffle is about is the fact that the Democrats, and a lot of people on FR, can tie the Gingrich name to Freddie Mac. Big freaking deal. Not to mention the fact that it was 10 years ago.
I'm not for any candidate at this point but it just chaps my ass to see FReepers helping the MSM to tar and feather one of their own using trumped up charges.
