Woman arrested in D.C. for silicone butt implants
The Washington Examiner ^ | 16NOV2011 | Emily Babay

Silicone implants that enlarge the buttocks sound risque, but they're also illicit and potentially deadly.

A woman accused of offering just that service was recently arrested in a downtown D.C. hotel, according to court records.

Federal authorities say women wanted 45-year-old Kimberly Smedley to give them injections of liquid silicone to "increase the size and shape" of their buttocks.

Smedley usually performed the injections in hotel rooms and was arrested on Oct. 11 at the JW Marriott near 14th Street NW and Pennsylvania Avenue, according to an application for a search warrant to search items she had with her when she was taken into custody.

The search warrant application, which was filed in federal court in Baltimore and was made public this week, says an arrest warrant was issued for Smedley in September.

That warrant remains under seal. It could not be determined Wednesday whether Smedley has an attorney.

Robert Ekey, a special agent with the Food and Drug Administration, wrote in the court documents that the agency had been investigating Smedley since April for distributing unapproved and misbranded devices.

An exotic dancer at a Baltimore club told authorities that she met Smedley in September 2010 and asked for silicone injections, according to court documents. The woman then paid Smedley $4,000 for nine injections in each buttock, which were given between October 2010 and March 2011.

The FDA "has not approved or cleared any silicone device for this intended use," Ekey wrote.

At her last treatment, the woman asked for injections in her hips. She was hospitalized two days later from shortness of breath and a computed tomography scan found silicone inside her lungs, according to court records.

It's not clear how many injections Smedley has performed.

Her operation first surfaced in March 2008, when the New York Post reported about Smedley offering the injections from Manhattan hotels. Hotel records show Smedley logged 106 stays at Marriott hotels between January 2010 and May 2011, court documents say.

When Smedley was arrested at the D.C. Marriott, she "was not willing to answer questions beyond confirming her residence," according to court records.

The documents say she received a text message that night from someone named "MilliDC" asking if Smedley would be in town the next day because "wanna make an apt 4 my aunt an I want my hips done."

I was just thinking. Of all the girls I have dated including my wife, I have yet to know one who thought their butt was too small.

They all thought it was too big and often did a lot of exercise trying to make it smaller.

Actually they were all just about the right size.

Rob McKay - Taco Bell heir

McKay grew up in conservative Orange County with Republican parents, but he moved to the Bay Area, attended graduate school at UC Berkeley and eventually helped finance San Francisco's successful living wage campaign for low-income workers.

McKay spent most of his youth in Southern California, attending wealthy Foothill High School and Occidental College, where he studied political science. A job in Chicago training to become a banking analyst got him interested in low-income housing issues and poverty.

Here

McKay, who turns 38 next month, begins his days in San Francisco with a latte and newspapers at Cafe Roma, then heads back home for phone calls to the East Coast. The foundation has an office in the Financial District.

McKay is finalizing his divorce from Pam Spritzer, a New York writer who lives with their 3-year-old daughter, Ade. He keeps an apartment in the West Village and visits at least a week every month, he said.

McKay said he first read about the extent of his family's wealth as a teenager reading the business pages of the Los Angeles Times. His father, who took Taco Bell from one franchise to a nationwide chain, sold his 10 percent share of the business to PepsiCo Inc. in 1978, netting an estimated $13 million. He remained as an executive until 1981.

The family bank account has grown considerably thanks to other investments, including the National Bank of Southern California and US Robotics.

**** injections of liquid silicone to “increase the size and shape” of their buttocks.***

Back in the 1960s several strippers in the LA area had silicone injected into them to enlarge their breast size.

The name Carol Dotta comes to mind.

I remember when I first heard of it I thought all siclcone was SAND! and thought, “Why in the world would anyone inject sand into their breasts”!

Reminds me of woman asked husband for money for breast implants and he said ‘Try rubbing toilet paper on them’.

When she questioned him he said

“You have been wiping your ‘butt’ for years and the results speak for itself”.

Funeral is tomorrow.

She injected her in the hips and hit her lungs?

There are plenty of blood vessels in the legs. The silicon could have been injected into one of them, for example. The blood then will carry it everywhere, and it will plug the smallest blood vessels it can find - which are plentiful in lungs:

An adult alveolus has an average diameter of 200 micrometres, with an increase in diameter during inhalation. (link)

I can’t believe the author doesn’t know the difference between an implant and an injection.

I recall reading in Nature I think it was that in societies where food is plentiful, thin = beautiful. Where it is scarce, fat = beautiful.

Photobucket I knew this girl around 20 years ago She was pretty, in fact queen of everything and at a large high school. I remember she took all the aerobics classes and loved to hike. She also liked to dance which is what she is doing here. Maybe a little larger than average but not huge by any means.

Silicon implants were, I believe, encased in something. To just shoot silicon into your body freely is unbelievably dangerous as it can travel anywhere and cause problems including, I would think, death.
