Herman Cain has gotten the protection of Secret Service agents, apparently effective today, sources told POLITICO earlier today.
A Cain spokesman didn't respond to repeated requests for comment. But ABC News has also apparently confirmed that Cain is getting federal protection. Continue Reading
It's unusual for candidates to get such protection prior to receiving the nomination, unless there is a credible threat of some kind.
UPDATE: “We are protecting Herman Cain,” Secret Service spokesman Ed Donovan said Thursday night. He said the decision was made by Homeland Security “Secretary Napolitano, at the request of the Cain campaign and in consultation with the Congressional advisory committee.”
“The authority was given to the Service to protect Herman Cain [beginning] today,” Donovan said.

The only threat is from the media asking him questions.
Taxpayers providing protection from the media.
Next thing you know NO cameras will be allowed at his campaign events.
“Cain’s meeting with the editorial board was scrapped about an hour before it was to begin amid disagreements over timing and whether the meeting would be videotaped.
The Union Leader typically allows its meetings with presidential candidates to be filmed; Cain’s campaign wouldn’t allow it.”

Apparently cain would sit for 20 minutes, while normal mtgs with Union Leader Edits. is an hour.
WHY would anyone threaten Cain..doesn’t seem realistic. Unless one of the OWS crazies got a dumb idea.
There are people who are hell bent on stopping Rev, Cain at all costs. Some of them are members of his own party.

Good idea...Cain’s been in New Hampshire; which has been ‘crime central’ lately...women murdered, banks robbed, home invasions...yikes!
