Japanese press is now covering this. The JIJI Press (similar to AP/UPI) reporting it. Stated it is rare to get SS protection at this stage in the campaign game, but mentioned a number of credible threats on Obama four years ago based on racial factors could be behind it--but did not confirm it -- (might be speculating here) ...states request came from Cain camp and required DHS approval:

I am not a Perry fan or a Newt fan, not even sure I am all in for Cain, but I will tell you this, it is probably very dangerous being a black conservative for obvious reasons. I don’t wish harm to any of these candidates. If they are getting credible threats, they need to be protected.

If you are unable to control your venom you need to take a time out.

You don’t have to be for Cain as the nominee. You should be very much for his safety and not begrudge him adequate protection.
