He had met an American girl while working and she and he agreed that there was only one “God” and that they both in their own way worshiped Him. She was a Methodist. They truly were in love.
My first roommate became a close friend. The first year we roomed together we had many discussions about the US, our form of government, and Christianity as compared to Islam. I would do the cooking, and spent a lot of time with Campus Crusade for Christ and the Chi Alpha. I witnessed to him, and he stated that he believed in Yeshua, but his biggest fear in converting was that he would be totally cut off from his family and nation (Islam is much, mush, more than a religion).
The The second year two other Persian roommates moved to our apartment my senior year.
All three were mainly afraid of the Shah's secret police, and would have no part in efforts by other Persians to radicalize them. Even so they admitted that they had been sent to the US for an education to bring about economic and scientific advancement to Iran (nuclear), although my initial roommate was majoring in Electrical Engineering.
Once the second two Iranians moved in, I was no longer trusted to do the cooking (I might feed them pork).
All three knew nothing about cooking, since they were waited on hand and foot by their mothers and sisters. They would put a frozen pot pie in the oven to broil, and then wonder why the pie was still frozen in the middle (wouldn't read directions on the package). I came home once and found the remains of a leg of lamb on the patio outside of the apartment. Again they had place the oven on broil, and left it to burn. Needless to say the apartment smelled like burnt lamb for days afterwards.
It was during the second year (additional Muslim roommates) that I first heard about the Mahdi and how they viewed him as a violent Islamic messiah.
My first roommate married the American girl, once he got his BS degree. This American girl, who was a Methodist, believed that we all worship the same “god”. They went to Iran to introduce her to his parents. She learned quickly that once in Iran that the family would not recognize the marriage unless she converted. She refused, they declared the marriage illegitimate, and she returned to the US. My friend then stayed in Iran to serve the required service to his country, and I don't know if he was killed in the Iran/Iraq war or survived. I have totally lost track of him.
I agree that the majority of the Iranian population would like to join the modern world, after all they had this briefly during the early 70’s, but the cult of the Mahdi now rules in Iran.
Even so, even in “moderate Islam” the core of Islam is the belief in jihad and the eventual Islamic take over of the entire world, and the only assurance of admittance to Paradise is killing and dieing for Islam.
These people (just like the Carter/Clinton folks) have placed our nation in danger due to their ignorance.
Goes back to the post-Raj era. Ghandi was opposed to to the Raj. Britain was our ally. We sided with Britain, especially since the height of the Quit India movement was during the war. We walked away from India, and they aligned themselves with the other great post-WWII power, the USSR.
The Soviets were helpful to the Indians during the conflicts with Pakistan and China in the 50’s and 60’s.
It’s taken 50 years for us to start coming back around, and the Indians are receptive since the Soviet Union is no more, and they need an ally against China. Pakistan is and has long been an ally and a proxy for China as a counterweight to India.
Who seriously thinks that A.Q Khan invented the Islamic bomb? It was China who proliferated the technology to the Paks and they in turn proliferated it to the broader Arab world. I’m undecided on the Norks, but I lean toward them having gotton the bomb through the Khan network, not the Chinese directly.
That having been said, Panetta’s comment was a stupid gaffe and he surely knows better. His boss on the other hand...
Iranians have the potential to be a very Westernized nation. Unfortunately, there is just enough of a radical element there to keep Ahmadinejad and his ilk in power. However, millions of Iranians (especially those truly of Persian background with an appreciation for that history) like the West and the US in particular.
Persians are NOT Arabs, and their history is much different. Even genetically they’re more similar to Europeans than they are to Arabs.
For the life of me I can’t stop thinking about Inspector Clouseau (Peter Sellers) when I see him. (Apologies to the family of Mr. Sellers)
PS ... My apologies to serious circus clowns.
wow
Maybe he will join Obama in bowing to O’s Pakistani Muslim Brotherhood
Therefore an enemy of this anti-American administration.
They're ALL dangerous fools.
OH MAN all that outsourcing with computers, please Panetta, don’t pi## off my Norton India guys and gals, I do NOT want malware and other bugs ..GRRRR
If Panetta wasn’t a Democrat, the lame stream media would never let this story die.
You assume The Marxists, Panetta and Onada, view Islam as a security threat to begin with.
When history sorts out who Onada really was will he have been a dedicated Marxist using Islam or a dedicated Islamist using Marxism?
As usual, a rat opens his mouth and we’re reminded democraps don’t know wtf they’re talking about.
He meant to say “Israel.”
I thought of this as deliberately pro-Pakistan too.
You are saying if Panetta hadn’t been a democrat there would still have been a story such as this?
Around here Indians vote democrat, but not to the degree of other minorities.
If he was a Republican, the LSM would make this story even larger and remind the public of it every time they reported a story about him for the rest of his career.
