Couldn't resist. How about that knocking on your door in the middle of the night? Seriously, Texas knows about wildfires. Prayers for those who have lost their homes.

You gather your valuables and stay alert. Winds could change. Be safe.

“At least one man is dead, after suffering a fatal cardiac arrest while evacuating”

we generally see headlines like “Fire kills 1”

At least we have confirmed that wildfires aren’t a sure-fire way to prevent heart-attacks.

Greetings from a former Californian. Sweet Hubby and I chose Northern Nevada for our retirement home. We sold our San Luis Obispo house on three acres to our oldest son ten years ago, and sold mt mother's homes in Palm Springs (gated community) and Ojai(three stories with elevator) this fall. Sadly many areas of California have become overcrowded, crime ridden; with perpetually gray-brown skies. We live about fifty minutes from Reno and Carson City and fifteen minutes from Virginia City. Wild horses are frequent visitors to our place. We have great human neighbors too. It is the custom to wave and/or honk while passing people or vehicles. Except during stormy weather our skies are a deep brilliant blue. We enjoy four season weather, with lots of opportunities for fishing, skiing, and camping. I could easily afford to live anywhere in California but I chose to live here. But I'm sure that where you live in California is perfect for you. My sister and brother-in-law have home in gated communities in Arrowhead and Palm Springs. I'm sure she considers my husband and I a bit crazy for nor craving a 4,000 square foot+ house on a lake, or a 3.000 square foot + house on a golf course ideal.

I hope you’ll be getting this storm soon. It’s pouring down a mixture of snow/rain since last night, I’m in SW OR but it’s heading your way I think.

The heat is affecting the one armed bandits in the casinos here - they are dispensing unexpected and unjustified jackpots seemingly at random. If you’re nearby, come on over, I’m about $1,600 ahead, and still winning.

Prayers up for all of the people being affected by this.

I know people who lost their home (and cat) in Bastrop County, TX this past summer and I was close to a wildfire myself, so the people in the Reno area have my empathy and prayers.

Wildfires are so scary, Allegra. The wind can shift at any moment, and devour everything in the fire’s path - in a very short time.

I have no friends or relatives in Reno, but my heart and prayers are with all in harm’s way!

Regarding your friends who lost their home and cat, my sympathy and prayers for them. What pain that loss must be!

Yep. One sprung up in a park near me one afternoon in late August. After a few hours, they got it mostly contained.

A week or two later, I had a brief nightmare about a wildfire. Not as scary as some other nightmares I've had to deal with about errr....other things, but it was still an indication of how those things can get into your subconscious.

I really feel for people who are right in it and have to be routed from their homes...only to lose everything. It's heartbreaking. I pray these people will be OK and that loss is minimal.

We are down to ten large air tankers in this country. 10 years ago we had 44. A big problem is one idiot in the USFS killing off the contracting system.

When someone told me as a young child that Reno, NV was WEST of Los Angeles, CA, I thought they were kidding me

My Dad pointed that out to me as a kid, by way of a "get a load out of this!" factoid.....that's when I decided he was the smartest man in the world....
