Texans have a “different feeling about independence,” Perry told the group.

“When we came into the nation in 1845, we were a republic, we were a stand-alone nation,” the governor can be heard saying. “And one of the deals was, we can leave anytime we want. So we’re kind of thinking about that again.”

It suggests secession, no question about it. Whether he's joking or wrong can be argued, but not the fact he ever mentioned it.

Perry's secession statement is as meaningless as the "rock" issue. Both are non issues.

As you can see, I wasn't lying - I do not lie on this board or anywhere else. You owe me an apology. My point was, he's in trouble and using “get out of the UN”, “shut down congress to half time” in order to try to get interest back to him. He can't do either of those two things and I wish he hadn't said them. I know Perry and like him but he's not doing himself any good by throwing these comments out there. I live in Texas and have worked for his re-election since he first ran for Lt. Governor. I don't think he can debate Obama and that gives us Obama again and that would be a tragedy.
