...You would be surprised at how many Republican Latinos there actually are in the state of Nevada. There are quite a few of us, said Alex Garza, a Hispanic Republican activist. I think the numbers are there; we just havent organized as well as the Democratic Latino organizations.
The potential political power of Latinos is an oft-told story in Nevada and elsewhere, though any happy ending at the polls usually is enjoyed by Democrats.
...During the Republican presidential candidates nationally televised debate in Las Vegas last month, they were asked how they would speak to the Latino community. Newt Gingrich suggested that Latinos didnt need to be singled out as any different from any other ethnic group. But Rick Santorum suggested Latinos should naturally gravitate toward the Republican Party because of shared faith-based values.
That message resonates with some Latinos.
The Republican Party has very, very strong family values ... Latino families in general believe in the family values as well, said Jose Hernandez, an accountant who serves as a youth pastor at his evangelical church with a mostly Latino group of 18- to 30-year-olds he counsels.
My youth that I teach, obviously Im teaching them Biblical principles and stuff, but then outside, I introduce them to the subject ... and by doing that Im actually getting people to start coming around and thinking that the Republican agenda actually has better options than President Obama and the Senate, he said. If theyre learning good Christian values, they will vote Republican.
Catching the youth is key any effort to gain support in the community. Nationwide, every month, 50,000 Latinos turn 18 and become eligible to vote.
Cantu and Garza say the party is working on it but could use funding and assistance from the greater Nevada GOP...

I hear Anita gets very creative in the kitchen with her use of cow patties.
As they say, the way to a man’s heart.......
Maybe the fangirls here at FR can put up the Anita Perry cookbook?
La Raza Rick proved where his allegiance lies and was even willing to alienate millions of American voters in the process. We need a president who represents Americans, not foreigners who he and his crony capitalist buddies want to exploit for cheap labor.
Perry’s contempt for voters...... and for American exceptionalism....... was never more evident than when he pointedly demeaned voters who dared disagree with him.
Perry apparently has a deal with Mexico——they throw open the borders so he can send in the Texas Ntl Guard to register (and re-register) illegal voters-——— in exchange for Perry facilitating their agenda on the backs of unsuspecting US citizens.
Perry cookbook title?
“Building a BBQ Pit for Next To Nothing Using Illegal Labor.”
Who would that be?
Cain, who says he puts his priorities of America, conservativism and race in this order: First America, then his race then conservativism. Why is his skin color even in his governing equation? He’s a walkin’ talkin’ LaRaza.
I never said Perry didn’t like this legislation.
He probably should have defended it more pragmatically.
The point was that a lot of Mexican families receive aid because, altho they work, they don’t make enough to pay taxes and they receive aid.
The idea was that by lifting some of the kids born to illegals up a little bit ... not by GIVING them a college education but by letting them pay in-state tuition, they might rise from poverty and become taxpayers and assets to Texas and the country.
It seems like a good idea to me.
Everybody benefits, including the colleges.
I agree. I expect the Obama Depression to cause the GOP to take the White House and Senate. I have no faith in the White House as I expect one of the RINOs to win the election. The Senate will remain a go-along Gentleman’s club who doesn’t want to offend or oppose the Democrats.
A conservative president would shame the Senate GOP into overturning Obamacare and dealing with some of the many deep problems we have dug over the past 50 years. A RINO will want to “fix” Obamacare, and will nibble at the edges of socialism, leaving intact most of our dire problems as we head for the rim of the abyss, even if slowly compared with the Democrats break-neck pace.
There is not a single GOP presidential nominee I can get behind with any faith whatsoever. As always, I will hold my nose and vote for the GOP nominee so as to expel our communist muslim president, but I have no faith the jackass will do anything to fix our problems.
We Conservatives are just screwed as is America. The best recourse going forward is to pray sincerely and often.
You and Miss M are just sooo cute.
Or how about: “The Anita Perry Cookbook: Vodka is not just a Sauce!”
I agree that Baby Bush did a fabulous job of attracting the Hispanic vote. That is one of my main points.
He still got only 35% of their vote. That is the point.
2 in 3 Hispanics vote only Democrat and always will.
1 if 5 Hispanics always votes GOP and always will. (e.g. - Cubans).
The GOP is always fighting for those portion of the 2 in 10 Hispanics who swing between GOP and Dem.
So the GOP will never get more than 40% of the Hispanic vote. Never.
That is my point.
Baby Bush flooded the nation with illegals and legal hispanics even knowing that 6 in 10 of them would NEVER vote for his party.
Fking idiot. NO, not idiot! Corrupt sellout and New World Order crook. He knew what he was doing. He sold us out so his banking/business/financier/defense contractor friends and supporters could make an even bigger killing.
FUBB
What matters to hispanics? Tell us.
What does Mr. Garza say about giving amnesty to illegals and is all of this ingratiating just a way of buttering up Republicans to continue the colonization of the United States by Mexico.
It is possible for Hispanics to be good Republicans but they have to understand that they have to obey the immigration laws as all other nationalities have.
If we keep letting Mexicans walk into the country we will be the minority party for ever. We are being blackmailed. We have to give in to the demands of the colonists or they will vote Democrat. They are blackmailing us when they are not even legal, what are they going to do when they are legalized.
Thank goodness E-Verify is coming.
The Hispanic voters are still majority Democrat, no matter now much you pander to them. By the way, which Hispanic group are you pandering to? Surely not the Puerto Ricans because they do not have an illegal immigrant problem. All this talk about the Hispanic vote always comes down to kowtowing to the ever growing Mexican population because we have let them come in here illegally and walk all over us.
I voted for GWB twice, and this is what I got: the Constitutional right to bear arms, the Defense of Marriage Act, No Child Left Behind, an additional tax credit for having children, and the election of 2 WHITE MALE CHRISTIANS TO THE SUPREME COURT (at a time when it is ILLEGAL TO HIRE A WHITE MALE CHRISTIAN N EVERY OTHER SECTOR). Without GWB, we’d have Bolshevik rule in 2008; now we’ll see how we deal with it in 2011.
He was the lesser of 2 evils (twice); I vote for my God, my family, and He did us as right as could be expected.
“What matters to hispanics? Tell us.”
The same things that matter to “Americans”; lower taxes, no murder of chilren or “gay marriage”, and people that might possibly acknowledge that the oldest city in North America is SAN AUGUSTINE, FLORIDA, not Plymouth, Massachusetts.
100 years earlier; deny, you lose, accept, you win.
It is no accident that the God who (apparently) insists on separation of Church & state found fit to allow the cities of SAN DIEGO, CORPUS CRISTI, LOS ANGELES, SACRAMENTO, and SAN AUGUSTINO, to survive after what He did to Sodom & Gomorrah, did what He did.
