Thompson, who led the fundraising effort for his uncle’s last re-election campaign in 2007, said he had previously told a top Emanuel aide that he would step aside if the new mayor wanted to make a new appointment to the authority’s board...“Rahm and I have been friends for years,” Thompson told the Chicago News Cooperative. “We are friends today and we will be friends for years to come.”

The move followed recent media reports detailing how the authority had allowed the White Sox to keep all income from a new restaurant at the ballpark and a retail store that is set to open on state-owned property near U.S. Cellular Field.

The lease agreement came about when James Thompson was governor, and the additions to the agreement — the shop and restaurant — were added when Mr. Thompson was chairman of the Illinois Sports Facilities Authority.

Gov. Pat Quinn replaced four members of the board, including Mr. Thompson, earlier this year and appointed Mr. Jones, the former president of the state Senate.
