Oprah finding she has problems of her OWN (Failing network hemorrhaging cash, friends...)
NY Post ^ | 11/20/11 | JOSEPH BARRACATO

O don’t know cable.

Talk-show queen Oprah Winfrey is losing money, viewers, executives — and even her best friend, Gayle King, who bolted this week — in her battle to make OWN Network a relevant programming destination.

Winfrey intended to “enlighten” and “inspire” her loyal fan base when transitioning from network TV to cable, but all she’s done is alienate herself, posing as a philosopher rather than a journalist.

The Rats that haven't been thrown under the bus by Oprah already are fleeing this sinking ship. Discovery Networks shareholders should be demanding that OWN be shut down immediately and end this waste of shareholder resources.

“posing as a philosopher rather than a journalist.”

Should that read posing as a philosopher or a journalist...she is neither.

I stopped watching her as soon as I figured out her politics. Of course, it wasn’t too difficult to do.

I hope this isn’t happening to Glenn Beck with his web-based show. These new startups are horrifically expensive, even when the product is good (Oprah’s isn’t).

Let’s hope The Oprah doesn’t start smoking crack cocaine again.

Here’s the problem: OWN doesn’t make the money that the
Discovery Channel, TLC, Animal Planet and Planet Green channels make. I would not be surprised that Oprah Winfrey will have to renegotiate better terms with Discovery Networks for this channel to continue.

Joy Behar will be available soon.

Maybe Oprah can give her a time slot — and save the network [/s].

I think Beck will succeed because being web-based, that right there cuts out the ENORMOUS expense of getting on a real cable channel.

“I hope this isn’t happening to Glenn Beck with his web-based show”

GB was chirping something about a major announcement on Dec.8th, of course he wanted you to subscribe to his network to hear what it is.

Oprah is trying to translate a limited, daytime, socialist, “make me feel good” audience into a 24 hr/day success.

All the rest of us have a life, job, or both. We have zero use for her liberal hokum.

And why she thinks Rosie O is anything beyond a disgusting slug is beyond me. Is “really gross” supposed to draw big audiences? If so, then I suggest a show about “booger picking” would do better than anything Rosie could produce.

I like Glenn but it seems when I listen to his radio program on Fox now, it's just to direct you to GBTV. If I were Fox, I wouldn't like that.

The Oprah decline did begin with her avid endorsement of Obama.

Many white middle class ladies watched her show. She lost them when she campaigned for Obama and started delving into far left kookery.

Oprah has become so yesterday now.

Once upon a time, Oprah could actually have a good show- unlike so many of the "baby-daddy-mama-drama" that seems to be on TV these days. (I don't sit at home and watch, but my job involves going into other people's homes, and it's appalling what people do sit and watch).

I remember one from quite a number of years ago now, I'd guess 15-20 years. Oprah actually did a show where she encouraged young black people to educate themselves, to learn to speak correctly, and to learn how to act like civilized human beings, if they wanted to get anywhere in life. She pointed out that she would never have been given the opportunity to have had a television program if she talked "ghetto" all the time. When told that she was encouraging them to "act white" she rebutted that no, proper English was actually race-neutral, and was simply that standard means of communication.

I have to wonder if she would do a show like that again today.

Last week I was scrolling through my cable directory, and stumbled across the OWN line...I took a peek at the listed programs and was surprised that it is now the 17th, or 18th network that seems to feature reruns of “Law & Order” endlessly..

Also, she mocked white women during the election who dared to voice concerns about Obama.
