George Will Dismisses Newt Gingrich, Scoffs At Idea That He Is A ‘Historian’

George Will really doesn’t like Newt Gingrich. On the This Week round table this morning, Will began his comments on Gingrich, now a frontrunner, by stating that his candidate “embodies everything disagreeable about modern Washington,” going on to laugh at the idea that Gingrich was hired by Freddie Mac as a “historian,” and, as a final blow, speaking more glowingly of even Rep. Ron Paul than of Gingrich.

Ron Paul, of course. Certainly, not Newt, a defender of the prescription drugs boondogle, TARP, No Child Left Behind, global warming nonsense....need I go on? Since I answered your question, please answer mine. Who is your favorite candidate?

A lot of the posters here don’t seem to want to win this election, either.

Depressingly so.

That’s odd considering how often Nancy Reagan has said nice things about George Will.

It was at Will’s house that Obama dined with Will and other “conservative” MSM’ers, e.g., David Brooks, Charles “The Kraut” Krauthammer, Kudlow, etc. early on in his administration to give them his rules of conduct. So, that gives us a good idea where Will is.

LOL. George Will is a pathetic, miserable, tiresome and tedious Beltway whiner.

Did you read what he said about Newt? Do you have a response? Will gave a devastating, and wholly accurate, rendition of Newt’s big government record. As to historian, well I suppose....a “historian” who couldn’t get tenure at a third rate college.

ahaha

.But as to not getting tenure. Not many conservative/republicans could/can. We know our colleges are a bastion for liberals/socialists.

That may be on his plus side - we know it certainly wasn't because he's stupid.

In one of the debates (or was it a speech somewhere?) Newt listed the first 5 (?) executive orders he would issue as POTUS, all of them realistic and achievable, unlike the vague promises of all other candidates (999 anyone?) requiring legislation, compromises, etc. That’s enough to hold his feet to the fire.

Like I said before about Ron Paul, I consider him 95% conservative whereas most people label him as a lunatic. Maybe people only want someone who is 50% conservative (transitional???).

Anyway, it looks like the candidate list is being whittled down to lesser of the evils. An improvement over the current loser in office.

I have always thought Nancy wasn’t 100% on board with Conservatism like Ronald. Over the years she has done and said things that just give me that impression. Plus look at the two Commie kids.

Mike Luckovich is not exactly friendly to conservatives.

So George Will is questioning Newt's credentials as an historian? Newt has a Ph.D. in history from Tulane University. Where did Will get a Ph.D., and in what field--baseballology?

my vote for Ron Paul is with the understanding je won’t get 100 percent of what he wants. But of he gets 50 percent, it’s better than the 10 or 25 percent of the others.

Technically, Newt is a historian, and if we ever need to know more about "Belgian Education Policy in the Congo: 1945–1960" we know who to turn to.

But Freddie Mac didn't hire him as a historian.

I am not a fan of Newt, but the dig about tenure indicates you don’t have much experience with humanities departments. White men, let alone conservative heterosexual white men, have a very hard time getting tenure. Conservative whites almost never get tenure - if they get hired at all.

I think George Will is annoyed that if Newt Gingrich is in the vicinity, then Will isn’t the smartest guy in the room, anymore. George may be a RINO but he makes some valid points regarding Newt. I respect Gingrich but I simply do not believe he is a conservative in any real sense and I don’t trust him. Those who claim that because we hold politicians posing as conservatives accountable for their positions and actions, we ‘don’t want to win the election’ are succumbing to the tired old ‘they’re the best we can do’ mindset that gives us ‘compassionate conservatives’ and those who may be conservative on a few issues but overall, tend to look to government as the ultimate ‘answer’ to every problem. Newt Gingrich is bold, clearly intelligent and quite outspoken, which are definitely attributes. But his past actions have shown that he can be mercurial and occasionally downright embarrassing. I believe that any one of the GOP presidential primary candidates are able to defeat the utterly failed Barack Obama but I would prefer to have the candidate that beats him be a conservative, not an unpredictable neo-RINO. That’s why I support Herman Cain.

Thank you for this. It is amazing to me that the some people on this forum take the MSM critisim of Newt hook, line, and sinker.

The MSM and beltway RINOs are attacking Newt for a reason. They know he can win and he has a proven track record of reducing the size of the federal government. He was demonized in the 90s for doing so - by the left.
