Correct about H.Pylori and ulcers. However in an ICU patient, they have discovered that patients can develop stress stomach ulcers (one form is called a Curling's ulcer) that is seen in some severely burned patients. Thus they will often try to prophlax using injectable pepcid.

I'm unclear why this patient would have been given IV pepcid for GERD, unless he couldn't take oral meds.

Hmm... this must not be uncommon about J-lube. I knew a guy who worked there and they had a customer that they forgot to put the plug back into the oil pan. The customer drove 1.1 miles exactly when the engine seized. They offered to rebuild the engine, but the customer insisted on a complete replacement. And got it.
