Swinging to Romney
The Wall Street Journal ("Lie back and think of England") ^ | NOVEMBER 21, 2011 | ALLYSIA FINLEY

Republicans might not particularly like Mitt Romney, but they may have to learn to live with him if they want to take the White House next year. So suggests a poll released today by Purple Strategies, which surveys voters in 12 swing states: Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin.

President Obama's approval rating in the swing states is in peril -- just 41% overall and 37% among independents -- but his saving grace seems to be that voters there are even more sour on the Republican candidates. This critical block of voters gave all of the top GOP contenders lower marks than the president, which may be due in part to the barrage of negative media that Republicans have been facing as the race heats up. The scrutiny, however, will only intensify after the party settles on a nominee, so Republicans may want to choose a candidate who can withstand criticism.

Mr. Romney has the lowest negatives of the field, with 45% of voters giving him the thumbs down. Those numbers aren't great, but compare them to Herman Cain's. Fifty-two percent rate Herman Cain negatively and 22% say they definitely wouldn't vote for him. Just 10% say the same of Mitt Romney. Mr. Romney also fares the best of all the candidates in a head-to-head match-up against the president, running even with him at 45.

"Based on traditional metrics,

Thanks for the sane post, but these kinds of threads are like watching a game of Pong with both paddles fixed in place—”I’m staying home!” “Then you’re giving Obama a second term!” “No, the Republican party is for nominating Romney!”

We are frequently given unappetizing, poor, or awful choices in life, but as adults we look at the possible outcomes of our actions or lack of such and act in a mature manner.

It’s simple—by withholding a vote from Romney, one is allowing one Obama vote to go unanswered.

Pawlenty couldn't catch on.

You are correct. Palin supporters deserve a lot of the credit for the fact that Pawlenty is now no longer an option for the "not Romney" vote. Thanks guys! Way to go.

And just where are they doing the polling? None of the people I talk to have ever been polled.Do you know anyone who has been polled? These polls are bought and paid for as far as I’m concerned.People need to wise up because we are being played and played big.

It is hard to have a revitalized second party considering the kinds of primary voters we have, particularly in NH.

You called me far worse... you called me a lib. I have 42,000 plus posts on FR and not one holds any liberal tendencies whatsoever.

“Take your ideology and shove it!”

Shove it up my arse I suppose... that is classy.

“This election is about taking the presidency away from 0, nothing else!”

This election is about a choice of which kind of government we are going to have... going forward... A Capitalist Republic or a Euro styled socialist hell hole. romney offers the same destination at a slower pace.

“Stay-home Conservatives gave the country to 0 in 2008 and you are asking them to do it again in 2012. What a bunch of f’ing idiots!”

I voted for mccain in 2008... but that was the last time I will ever vote for a progressive republican. You called me a fu**ing idiot... once again “foul behavior”.

I suggest you spend less time attacking Conservatives and more time working to keep romney away from the nomination.

Sadly, those liberal Republican voters in NH are denying us our poltiical freedom. “Live free or die” is only a shibboleth there.

"It is hard to have a revitalized second party considering the kinds of primary voters we have, particularly in NH."

The elite republican leadership engineered the entire game that way. There is a reason that the early primary states are the early primary states. Let the South have the first three and see if a blue blood, country club, limo riding progressive elite republican ever sees another nomination.

You are correct... and it has all been designed to keep us down. As Rush said today, “These people hate you and me and those like us”. Rush is right.

“You called me far worse... you called me a lib.”

There you go again, jumping to conclusions. I didn’t call you a “Lib”, I was merely addressing you with the grammatically familiar, shortened form of your screen name. Don’t take youself so seriously.

At the very least, there should be a rule on FR forcing critics to identify an alternative

The posting rules are pretty clear about abusive language and personal attacks but the moderators seem to ignore those rules, especially when it comes attacks on Romney supporters.

Who on this site supports Romney? I don’t remember seeing anyone who supports him. that being said, I have seen people saying that they might hold their noses and vote for him in the general. I don’t think that constitutes support.

I was zotted for saying something similar to that. I am not and never will be a Romney supporter. I will vote for the Republican regardless simply because I do not think a 3rd party will do anything but insure the Evil One will be re-elected.

If you don’t want to vote for Romney then send money to your candidate.

Personally I think that Cain is the only candidate that can easily beat the O. I will vote for Cain in the primary. I will vote for him there not because he is the least bad candidate but because I think is is a good American, a conservative, but even he is not perfect.

If Cains wins the nomination I go to the poles happy on general election day. If Michelle Bachman were to suddenly pull the race out and win I will smile when I get to vote for a true conservative on general election day. If Romney wins the primary I will wonder how it happened. How is it that the liberals and moderates in the party always seem to nominate our candidates. If this happens, I will go to the poles on election day just like I take out the trash the night before the garbage man comes. I will go, I will hold my nose but not like it but I will do it because I know it needs to be done.

send money to:

“.....I have yet to speak to a conservative who will vote for Romney.”

I'm a Conservative, and I have always voted for the GOP nominee.

My credentials?

Milton Friedman, Barry Goldwater, and William F. Buckley were the heroes of my youth, and Rush Limbaugh was my hero at middle age.

More recently?

I passionately supported Phil Gramm in 1996 and Duncan Hunter in 2008.

Voting for Romney will be painful, but voting for John McCain was even worse.

Philosophically, I'm closest to Sarah Palin, but I'm relieved she's not running.

I don't feel that she has the political fluency or the intellectual discipline to win a national campaign.

Cutting off the nose to spite the face

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cutting_off_the_nose_to_spite_the_face

“Cutting off the nose to spite the face”

is an expression used to describe a needlessly self-destructive over-reaction to a problem: “Don't cut off your nose to spite your face” is a warning against acting out of pique, or against pursuing revenge in a way that would damage oneself more than the object of one’s anger.

Origins

The phrase is known to have been used in the 12th century. It may be associated with the numerous legends of pious women disfiguring themselves in order to protect their virginity.

The expression has since become a blanket term for (often unwise) self-destructive actions motivated purely by anger or desire for revenge. For example, if a man was angered by his wife, he might burn down their house to punish her; however, burning down her house would also mean burning down his, along with all their combustible personal possessions.

The Point ——

ABO in 2012 even if it is Romney !!

As the NUNS would say:
A WORD TO THE WISE IS SUFFICENT !!
