Swinging to Romney
The Wall Street Journal ("Lie back and think of England") ^ | NOVEMBER 21, 2011 | ALLYSIA FINLEY

Republicans might not particularly like Mitt Romney, but they may have to learn to live with him if they want to take the White House next year. So suggests a poll released today by Purple Strategies, which surveys voters in 12 swing states: Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin.

President Obama's approval rating in the swing states is in peril -- just 41% overall and 37% among independents -- but his saving grace seems to be that voters there are even more sour on the Republican candidates. This critical block of voters gave all of the top GOP contenders lower marks than the president, which may be due in part to the barrage of negative media that Republicans have been facing as the race heats up. The scrutiny, however, will only intensify after the party settles on a nominee, so Republicans may want to choose a candidate who can withstand criticism.

Mr. Romney has the lowest negatives of the field, with 45% of voters giving him the thumbs down. Those numbers aren't great, but compare them to Herman Cain's. Fifty-two percent rate Herman Cain negatively and 22% say they definitely wouldn't vote for him. Just 10% say the same of Mitt Romney. Mr. Romney also fares the best of all the candidates in a head-to-head match-up against the president, running even with him at 45.

"Based on traditional metrics,

“Thus insuring a second term for Michelle and her husband. “

Lady, what will assure a second term for Michelle and her husband will be the Republicans selecting Romney as the nominee.

Are you going to vote for him?

I sure as hell will NOT.

Under any circumstances.

Take your ideology and shove it! This election is about taking the presidency away from 0, nothing else! Stay-home Conservatives gave the country to 0 in 2008 and you are asking them to do it again in 2012. What a bunch of f’ing idiots!

If Romney gets the nomination, can we please have a third party candidate?

(shrug) Either that or I don't cast a vote for president.
I absolutely and resolutely refuse to reward the RINOs of the Republican establishment.
Not gonna happen.

Nope! Not me. I played that game for the last time in 2008.

Nominate Rommney if you want to, and I believe that you do. But when you do, it will take one less vote for obama to be re-elected. You can believe the Republican bullshit that Rommney is the only one that can beat obama if you choose. But the truth of the matter is that he will get less votes than Mc Cain would have gotten if he had not picked Sarah Palin as his running mate. Palin at least doubled Mc Cain's vote total.

“What a bunch of f’ing idiots!”

Are you saying that those of us who won’t vote Romney in the general election are “f’ ing idiots”?

“A third party means Obama wins.”

If Obama wins a second term without having to worry about reelection this country is done. Herman and Newt will not get the womens vote (I can see US Magazine rerunning that cover of Obama and Michelle "Why He Loves Her").To call Romney Obama-lite is just plain stupid. He may be a RINO and flip flopping opportunist at the worse. But he was Governor of one of the liberalist states in the country. Even Arnold tried hard his first 2 years as gov. of California before he gave up or was blackmailed. We could always keep Mitt in line if he doesn't keep his promises with the threat of a primary challenge.

So what you are saying is you will vote for Romney.

I don't get what you point is. Do you expect me to be humiliated to admit that, while I'm not a fan of Romney, I recognize political and philosophical difference between him and President Obama? I say that if you don't you are thinking irrationally. I don't like Romney, I don't trust Romeny, and I frequently disagree with him. However, I will vote for him over Obama if we are stupid enough to nominate him.

Problems.

A. Timing. Polls at this point are worthless. Polls against Obama at this point are worthless. What matters is in November.

B. Romney hasn't been truly vetted. Not like Perry, Cain, Newt, Bachmann. I know, neither has Obama either. Romney has a ton of negatives out there. Look up how many jobs lost under Bain Capital. He's the caricature of the evil corporate one.

Stop your tendency to lead the witness! I’m saying I will vote for whoever is the Republican nominee. Is that clear enough for you?

A third party means Obama wins.

I would rather have Obama win, and have gridlock with a Republican Congress, than the stealth socialist Romney, who would actually get more of his socialist policies passed.

But don’t waste your time fighting the suicidal groupthink on this thread!

What is truly "suicide" is rewarding liberals and phonies who run under the 'R' banner with your vote. Personally, I'd rather be punched in the face by my enemy than stabbed in the back by my "friend". But if you want to reward Romney with your vote just because he's the last man standing thanks to GOP establishment and Democrat newsroom manipulation, then knock yourself out.

I will not. I detest the idea that my candidate will be selected for me by the likes of that scum.

“However, I will vote for him over Obama if we are stupid enough to nominate him. “

That is exactly what the Republican elites want to hear. It lets them know they can do whatever they want and you will go along. THAT is why they keep pushing rinos on us.

They don’t give a damn what the conservatives think, so long as they think we will vote for them no matter what. Sort of the same thing as the Democrats having the blacks on the plantation. How do you like being on the Republican’s plantation?

“What I’m saying is that I will vote AGAINST Obama. If all that President Romney accomplishes is that we don’t get another Ruth Ginsberg in SCOTUS, it will have been worth not making some infantile point (that only political geeks will notice) throwing my vote away.”

Well said!

This website is clear evidence for the fact that any current GOP candidate is not going to get his full number yet, because there are plenty of moron proclaiming that they refuse to vote if their candidate is not nominated.

I will gladly vote for Cain,

I will hold my nose for Newt or Perry, Santorum, Bachmann, etc. maybe even Ron Paul (but it won’t come to that, I’m sure)

But, NEVER Romney.

That is not to say that I don’t expect bad things from a Romney presidency. It’s just that Obama is worse.
