My friend had breast cancer twice. A different type in each breast. She was in her 30’s when the first one was diagnosed. Although my friend is not African-American, A-A women are especially susceptable to developing breast cancer under the age of 40. Particularly a type called “triple negative”. Women with a family history need to be screened sooner, not later.

I lost my mother, my aunt and two first cousins to breast cancer. If I had not been diligent about self examinations, I would likely be dead. My final mammogram did not indicate an egg size tumor but I felt a thickened area in my breast and because of my family history of breast cancer, my OBGYN recommended a biopsy which showed an egg sized tumor.
I pray my two young daughters will be allowed mammograms and be diligent about self examination.
