President Obama did voters a favor. During the 2008 campaign and early in his administration, he laid out the standards by which he should be judged. He made it perfectly clear under what conditions he would deserve re-election.
And by his own standard he doesnt deserve a second term.
In February 2009, when employment was at 8.2 percent, he declared, If I dont get this done in three years, then this is going to be a one term proposition.
Unemployment has yet to return to February 2009 levels, much less fall lower. Based on that standard alone, this should indeed be a one term proposition.
But consider the Presidents other promises and self-imposed standards.
On the stimulus: He predicted unemployment below 8 percent. Today: Were not even close.
On Obamacare: He promised accessibility and affordability. Today: Prices continue to skyrocket and many Americans have discovered they cannot keep their current plan.
On the deficit: He promised to cut it in half by the end of his first term. Today: He produced three years of record budget deficits, exceeding $1 trillion each.
On the debt: He promised to slow its growth. Today: He accelerated it and it has now surpassed $15 trillion.
On ethics: He promised the most transparent administration in history. Today: The administration has been caught gambling taxpayer money on failed investments like Solyndra for political purposes.
On lobbyists: He promised there would be no lobbyists in his administration and no lobbyist money in his campaign coffers. Today: He has gladly welcomed both.
He promised a thriving economy. Its stalled.
He promised change. We have gotten more of the same.
He promised to unite us. Were divided.
He has so little to run on, Democrats have resorted to pathetically arguing that it couldve been worse.
In 2012, Republicans will hold the president accountable. He laid out the terms on which he wanted to be judged. And were happy to accept those terms.
Its not our standard. Its not a partisan standard. Its the Presidents standard. Lets hold him to it.
There are no words more damaging to Obamas re-election prospects than his own. That makes our messaging strategy quite straightforward: Repeat those wordshis broken promisesas often as possible.
I have no use for Priebus or his corrupt RNC. They’re part of the problem too.
Yes, McCain could have won. Democrats would have prevailed in the mid-terms. The economy would have been a little better, not a lot. Congress would be investigating the executive branch from top to bottom. McCain would have nominated "acceptable" justices and he would be running for re-election right now. We'd be in no position to do any major overhaul based on conservative principles. The 45th president would almost certainly be a Democrat.
Just looking on the bright side today. :)
All of 0bummer’s multiple failures won’t matter if voters with their hands out reach critical mass (the majority).
I’m beginning to believe that the only event that will pull this nation off the path to third world status is a terrible revolution!
When the loafers of America outnumber the wage earners and the elite political class look down on the suckers as Romans did on the Christians being eaten by lions, then that’s more than enough.
When an absolute nobody, who has never accomplished a thing in his miserable life is elected president, then it’s long past time for patriots to act.
This is truly a squandered nation where the politicians and their enormous staff have wiped their asses on the Flag and the Constitution sneering at the rest of us we should know it’s time to get busy.
To lay down like a dog while a left-of-center like Mitt Romney or Newt Gingrich move into the oval office to complete the job of Obama then can’t we admit there’s no hope save tossing them all out? Move the capitol of America to Omaha and shut down the evil District of Columbia. Let it serve as a sort of adult Disneyland where visitors can go to view a failed experiment.
“To lay down like a dog while a left-of-center like Mitt Romney or Newt Gingrich move into the oval office to complete the job of Obama then cant we admit theres no hope save tossing them all out? “
I’m amazed at how the media is portraying each candidate as the new flavor of the month for the Republicans choice. They are running headlines on bogus polls showing Romney one month, Perry leading the next and now Gingrich. I’m still scratching my head asking how did we get that piece of crap McCain last time?
Until the GOP listens and embraces the Tea Party, we are fooked.
(imho) The masses (the people) normally receive what they (the masses) never suspected would be received by they (the masses). By the time the masses figure out they should not have desired, they (the masses) have received something not desired and traveled down the path too far to return (normally). The outcome is never in doubt once the path to ruin is taken. Simply the time-line.
Reince, it isn’t just Obama who needs to be held accountable. There’s a rather large share of RINOs who will be on the chopping block as well.
I’m getting to the point I no longer give two sh*ts about which party is in power in this country. They both suck... only in somewhat differing degrees.
