Why Do Liberals Keep Sanitizing the Obama Story?
The Atlantic ^ | Nov. 22, 2011 | Conor Friedersdorf

Posted on 11/22/2011 7:12:58 AM PST by Pharnsworth

When I pleaded with liberals to stop ignoring President Obama's failures on civil liberties, foreign policy, and the separation of powers, treating them as if they didn't even merit a mention, the quintessential example of the troubling phenomenon hadn't yet been published. Now it has. In New York, one of America's premier magazines, Jonathan Chait, a sharp, experienced political writer, has penned a 5,000 word essay purporting to defend the president's first term. It is aimed at liberal critics who, in Chait's telling, naively expected too much.

Tellingly, as Chait writes for affluent urban liberals who railed against the Bush Administration's excesses in the War on Terrorism, he neither desires nor feels compelled to grapple with President Obama's approach to foreign policy, national security, or homeland security. The closest he comes in a piece overwhelmingly focused on domestic policy and political maneuvering is the breezy assertion that Obama "has enjoyed a string of foreign-policy successes -- expanding targeted strikes against Al Qaeda (including one that killed Osama bin Laden), ending the war in Iraq, and helping to orchestrate an apparently successful international campaign to rescue Libyan dissidents and then topple a brutal kleptocratic regime."

Isn't that something?

Apparently it isn't even worthy of mention that Obama's actions in Libya violated the War Powers Resolution, the president's own professed standards for what he can do without Congressional permission, and the legal advice provided to him by the Office of Legal Counsel...

The answer to this question is quite simple and obvious. Liberals go with the “If you can’t dazzle them with brilliance, then baffle them with bullshit” philosophy. They have no answers to offer. They just create problems. It’s in their dna.

It’s not at all surprising that liberals are two-faced. They complain bitterly about Obama’s failure to be liberal enough among themselves, but they refuse to criticize Obama in public.

But it is a bit surprising that the Communist Atlantic would publish this piece, even if it criticizes The One for being insufficiently liberal.

There is no hope that any of these folks who dislike Obama for being insufficiently leftist will vote for the Republican. But they might stay home—at least some of them.

Why Do Liberals Keep Sanitizing the Obama Story?

What else do you expect them to do?

Why?

Because to liberals the ends justify the means.

Do not know anything about this guy, Johnathan Chait. Never heard of him. But, I am willing to bet he is Jewish.

I have come to recognize crazy totalitarian, socialist, suicidal Jews by what they typically write and how they think.

If this guy is not Jewish, he should seriously consider converting. He thinks and writes just like most of them.

The failure of most libs to raise more than a peep concerning Obama’s continuance of the Bush anti-terrorists polices (other than renaming them) is a strong indictment of the whole lib attitude towards Bush when he was president. In short, they knew he was right, but plotted against simply for political gain. In contrast, how many conservatives have condemned Obama for the Bin-Laden and other top terrorist killings? None, except for Ron Paul who is not a real conservative. For libs it’s all politics, all the time.

The Atlantic is a magazine that I cannot get farther than a paragraph into. The endless, navel-gazing blather that characterizes the magazine is a complete waste of brain cells as far as I’m concerned. Every nuance must be hand-wrung until calluses result on every exposed piece of skin, every thought pattern must be turned into an epicyclic nematode of neural necrophilia.

This has to be the most amazing sentence I've ever read on FR. It is a classic. Many thanks for letting us enjoy it.

Frankly, Obama has become irrelevant. He is no longer a player and is simply tolerated. He is completely ineffective and his base has abandonned him except for the lunatic like this magazine writer who are guaranteeing humiliating defeat. People are afraid to believe Obama has become irrelevant but he has. See: “Oprah’s demise is a look inti Obama’s future”

Chait's essay suggests an ideological movement that finds the ACLU and Center for Constitutional Rights indispensable, but only when a Republican is in the White House. One that objects to radically expanded executive power, except when the president seems progressive.... I want to be reassured that liberalism is better than that

Liberals only care about expanding the power of the State. Nothing else matters; its just phony wordplay for the masses. Its all about centralized , omnipotent Power .
