Sarah Palin's announcement that she wouldn't run for president disappointed her legions of admirers but it infuriated Roger Ailes. The Fox News chief wasn't angry about the decision itself. Rather, he was livid that Palin made the October 5 announcement on Mark Levin's conservative talk-radio program, robbing Fox News of an exclusive and a possible ratings bonanza. Fox was relegated to getting a follow-up interview with Palin on Greta Van Susteren's 10 p.m. show, after the news of Palin's decision had been drowned out by Steve Jobs's death. Ailes was so mad, he considered pulling her off the air entirely until her $1 million annual contract expires in 2013.
After the announcement, he called Fox's executive vice-president Bill Shine into a meeting. Shine is the network's principal point of contact with Palin. Ailes told him she had made a big mistake. "I paid her for two years to make this announcement on my network," Ailes pointedly told Shine. Sources described the episode on condition of anonymity, given the sensitivity of the relationships.
Palin is said to have made her announcement on Levin's show because she's been upset that Fox News has given a platform to Karl Rove, one of her principal critics. "She isn't happy with Karl," one Palin adviser told me. "From day one, he hasn't been very nice." Levin had become Palin's biggest booster in the conservative commentariat, and Palin is known for rewarding loyalists, and punishing her detractors.

“Ailes was so mad, he considered pulling her off the air entirely until her $1 million annual contract expires in 2013.”
Could all be liberal disinformation.
I didn’t know she had such a grudge against (shut up) Karl. Up she goes another two notches in my opinion.
Good! The MSM is losing and FOX has been part of the MSM since Beck left.
That’d what I figured. Rove was leading the Republican charge to drive her out. He’s been against all or most tea party candidates from the beginning.
Strategic error for Sarah. She alienated her best allies, and put the damper on any future aspirations.
Sarah is toast...yesterday...forgotten.
She really is not too bright.
I can understand how Ailes would be ticked.
Maybe she wanted to announce her decision on a CONSERVATIVE show?
Suck it up, Roger. Sarah has played you like she ALWAYS plays the media.
If it wasn’t in her contract, she had no such obligation to Ailes who should’ve kept in mind that there are other presidential campaigns down the road.
Ailes pays her. He doesn’t own her.
A Palin adviser told me that she is planning to make an endorsement for a candidate in 2012. Palin, being Palin, is keeping it tightly held. "I have an idea of who it is," the adviser said, "but I'm not telling."
Deja vu all over again, only I'm not playing this time.
Roger Ailes and Fox are NOT Palins allies.
Ailes is smart..so, if this story is TRUE, and remember, tere are no sources on the record..we can expect a weekly show with Sarah and Rove..Crossfire redux...it would be a ratings smash...but what could we call it?
Very dumb and naive move by Gov. Palin.
He couldn’t take out his anger on her since she clearly is bringing eyeballs (if she was still in probationary period she would be GONE).
But memories in media are LONG. There will come a time where she stumbles and needs goodwill from Fox. And, across the board, it won’t be there.
You don’t throw a hissy-fit at people who are throwing a cool million a year at you.
And don’t rant about “principle.” The only principle here is you don’t screw your own company, even if you don’t 100% agree with it.
Dont bite the hand that feeds you, so to speak. They offered her a job with great pay and this is how she rewarded them. Cant blame anyone over there for being irked at not getting the scoop first. Personally, I was really surprised she didn’t wait till she was on Fox to announce her decision. Not that I expected her to say she was running, it took her so long to announce that by then it didn’t matter to many.
Do not misunderestimate Sarah - she is still a momma grizzly bear, don’t let the lipstick fool you.
Roger Ailes, even though he is in management, still has to be held off at arm’s-length, and Sarah is just protecting her turf.
If you don’t reassert your position from time to time, they will stop respecting you....
Lipstick versus Eye Shadow?
Truth & Liar!
If you become too independent, you isolate yourself and appeal to fewer and fewer normal people.
Onyx, thanks for post 14 so I did not have to say it!
Am in agreement, except I don’t let Tokyo Rove anywhere near my A.
I hope the candidate Sarah wants to support is..... Sarah Palin ;)
She told some radio host in Alaska that he would be the first to know so Roger, baby, you’re not alone.
LOL. *You betcha*, she’s not too bright. /s
Want to rethink that not at all bright statement?
Yer welcome of course! I wouldn’t actually put mine anywhere near him either! LOL.
>>Get a clue please! NO ONE in the MSM is a friend of ANY conservative. If you can’t grasp that NOW, you never will.<<
Reread for content. “Goodwill” isn’t “friendship.” And if my “enemies” want to throw 1 million dollars a year at me, I am not sure I would kick them in the butt.
You need to understand how the Industry works. This will bite her. Badly.
Faux led the crusade with their idiot polls of less than 400 to *prove* that GOP folks didn’t want her to run. She was only praised and supported by Eric Bolling, Hannity and Greta!
No it won't but you can keep hoping.
Disinformation. There are TWO show hosts. She DID tell them first then announced publicly. The two hosts very proudly stated “See Sarah? We didn’t tell anyone.”
And yet, here you are talking about her.
I bet she never talks about you.
Kind of makes you wonder who is the dim one.
Unfortunately there are conservatives that don’t understand that Fox is not and never was conservative and that they need Palin a LOT more than she needs them.
>>No it won’t but you can keep hoping.<<
It is you who is the hopeful one. No point in pointing out reality to the fantasy-based.
Babble is right. Have you seen her lately?
What a waste of time and money.
How's that working out for you, Skippy?
The press can’t stop talking about Palin and trying to minimize her. They aren’t succeeding. Fox NEEDS her. She doesn’t need them. She has press coverage. She can’t sneeze without it being analyzed. All of you who bought the MSM’s bull have my sympathy.
Fox News needs competition from the right. Another conservative-ish cable news network would only make Fox better.
They were trying to buy conservative viewers. And they get them................when she’s on.
You are an idiot. Period. You sound so liberal.
Faux prohibits her from speaking on all other networks and cable stations.
That’s why she made such a brilliant choice: TGO! Loyal supporter and radio!
Sarah cares about Sarah and not one other soul...not her husband... not her parents...not her adorable baby son.
She is selfish and obnoxious.
Just my humble opinion, based on 75 years of studying human behavior.
She is the flavor of the month and won't last. And she just flushed any chance of going on nanosecond past the moment her numbers drop.
You self-deluded Palin-bots have my sympathy. She already led you on and then laughed in your face once. Like little puppy dogs you take the boot and then wag your tails and yap and ask for more.
That's crude and vile.
Oh, I don´t know. She masterfully played a whole lot of people for suckers while making a whole lot of money in the process. Me included. ´Wonder if I could resell her book.
