CA: Police release Mary Hayashi booking photo on theft charge

The San Francisco Police Department has released a booking photo of Assemblywoman Mary Hayashi from her arrest last month on a felony grand theft charge.

The 45-year-old Castro Valley Democrat appears disheveled in the photo, a far cry from her fashionable appearance on the Assembly floor during her five years as a legislator.

Hayashi has pleaded not guilty to the felony charge of stealing nearly $2,500 in clothing - leather pants, a black skirt and white blouse - from a San Francisco Neiman Marcus store last month.

Hayashi is not expected to appear for further proceedings in San Francisco Superior Court on Dec 7, when a preliminary hearing is scheduled to be set.

A preliminary hearing will determine whether evidence is sufficient for Hayashi to face trial on the charge.

Hayashi, who will be termed out of the Assembly next year, was stopped outside Neiman Marcus by store security officers, who recovered the clothing and booked it into evidence.

It has nothing to do with being Asian, she is cross eyed.

She’s a democrat politician, part of the 99%, and they expect her to pay for stuff?

Don’t they understand how Obamunism works?

Hayashi’s political career, legacy in jeopardy with charges looming

SACRAMENTO — State Assemblywoman Mary Hayashi entered the political world as a survivor of a tormented childhood, losing an older sister at 17 to suicide and watching as her disgraced parents burned her sister’s clothes, cut her out of photos and never mentioned her name again.

Yet Hayashi quickly built a name for herself at the Capitol after becoming the first Korean-American woman to serve in the Legislature. She became part of the inner circles of two Assembly speakers. A magazine named her one of the 100 most influential Asian-Americans of the past decade.

Now, a new and puzzling source of shame is threatening to ground this once-rising East Bay Democrat and dash her plans to run for the state Senate: a bizarre grand theft charge that accuses her of shoplifting nearly $2,500 of clothes at San Francisco’s Neiman Marcus on Oct. 25.

While the case has embarrassed fellow lawmakers and could make Hayashi the first California lawmaker in 18 years to be ousted because of a felony conviction, it has focused new attention on what legislative staffers call Hayashi’s overly ambitious and sometimes erratic behavior.

Her criminal case has caused tongues to wag at the Capitol and jolted the tight-knit Korean-American community, where many view her as a role model.

Has she been edumacted with any other skills besides being a Democrat hack? Looks like she has to find a new line of work but she might not be qualified for anything better than burger flipper

I don’t get the whole Asian-Democrat thing. They come here and generally are successful in school and business, yet they support a party that opposes success at every turn. You would think they were smarter than that.
