SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber on Tuesday imposed a moratorium on the death penalty for the remainder of his term, saying he's morally opposed to capital punishment and has long regretted allowing two men to be executed in the 1990s.

Kitzhaber's decision gives a temporary reprieve to a twice-convicted murderer who was scheduled to die by lethal injection in two weeks, along with 36 others on death row. It makes Oregon the fifth state to halt executions since 2007.

He knowingly ran in a death penalty state and swore to uphold those laws. Sounds just like the same mentality as that usurper in the white hut.

If a governor could do it, what if the man had said he is not allowing any abortion during the remainder of his term? ... The nation cannot see the issue of the death penalty in proper persepctive because the leftist wiht meida aiding and abetting have frame the issue incorrectly. A death penalty is issued by a court. For the governor to cancel the courts in a blanket declaration should get the governor impeached and removed. It won’t. But if he had banned abortion for the remainder of his term, he would be crucified by the media.

Cure the judicial problems, cure the police problems. The fraud/lies/with fabrication impunity is the core of executing innocents. No punishment, only more victims it seems is the standard.

Jeb Bush could have saved a woman a judge sentenced to death by dehydration/starvation. Bush was too cowardly to step in an grant her a pardon from the judge’s execution orders. Up is down, right is wrong. Welcome to Satan’s democrat run America.

I think the death penalty is a mercy and long prison sentences are cruel.

For the guilty, I agree. It is merciful, and just imo. I have little faith in the process that leads to such severe decisions. Different topic.

If he were a vegan, he'd try to ban the eating of meat and killing of animals. String him up.

The death penalty is about vengeance. As a society, we have to get over it. As an individual, I'm all for it.

Anyone who calls himself a ‘Christian’, and is opposed to the death penalty, obviously isn’t reading the Bible.

At least we don’t have to consider Jebbie for president in 2012, but who knows about 2016? Some people truly believe in Jebbie Bush, but no one knows why.
