Gingrich May Have Inside Track on Palin's Endorsement
Real Clear Politics ^ | 2011-11-23 | Scott Conroy

Almost immediately upon Sarah Palin's announcement that she would not seek the Republican nomination for president, the phone calls from almost all of the GOP candidates began pouring in. They wanted her endorsement.

While Palin has characteristically kept her cards close to her chest, advisers suggest that the 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee is likely to endorse before someone emerges as the inevitable nominee -- and that Newt Gingrich appears to be best-positioned to secure her support.

"They speak very favorably of Newt and what they see as his credentials as compared to Perry and Romney," one member of Palin's inner circle said of the former Alaska governor and her husband, Todd, who has long served as her unofficial chief adviser.

Gingrich has been particularly effusive in expressing his admiration for Palin over the last few months, and she has returned the favor by heaping praise on the former House speaker.

"Newt Gingrich again, I think, did the best because he seems to be above a lot of the bickering that goes on," Palin said on Fox News after a Republican debate in Las Vegas last month, adding that Gingrich would “clobber” President Obama in a general election debate.

She doesn’t need to endorse anyone. None of them deserve it.

What better endorsement could one hope for than her statement that “he did the best and would clobber Obama.”

She is naturally looking for a sure candidate and sees at least in this moment in time, for herself who looks sure, and does “the best”, and “would clobber Obama”.

What’s left to be hoped for in an endorsement? Did she say, ever, that anyone else was the “best”, and “would clobber” Obama?

Am I correct in the assumption that she did endorse Perry for Gov in 2010 over kay bailey, Medina and Bill White?

After her endorsement of Spike Maynard in WV 3 in 2010, her endorsement mean little to me.

You mean unlike many of the folks here at FR, Sarah Palin actually wants to beat Obama in 2012? The horror.

I guess what I’m saying is that I prefer Gov. Palin to any of the current gaggle.

Newt really stepped in it tonight on the immigration issue. I think Sarah Palin would be wise to continue what she is doing - speaking out on the issues and attacking Obama.

Tonight's debate left me thinking that the anti-Romney (Newt) be more like Romney than the man himself.

Of all the people on the stage, I trust Newt the least.

“.....if, God forbid, he’s the eventual GOP nominee, but there’s no justification for backing his primary bid. “ <<<

Of course this isn’t a real endorsement, but it is the next closest thing and being said during the primary. But, no, Palin is not going out on a limb against her base this early or as you said, in a primary fight. She doesn’t go out on limbs, at least when not not physically surrounded by her base chanting her name.

The guy is articulate defending Palin.

What a loss that Palin isn't running.
Honestly; this thing would be over by now if she was running.

Many Republican women would like Sarah Palin better is she looked like Debbie Wasserman Schultz or Debbie Stabenow ... especially Republican women that look like Debbie Wasserman Schultz or Debbie Stabenow.

You are correct. It was an unnecessary endorsement, as Barney Fife could've won against those three (Kay, Bill and Medina).

She certainly has to know that there are many who want her to get in the game by now.
