The Gingrich Amnesty
NRO ^ | Nov 23, 2011 | Mark Krikorian

Missed the debate because of wrestling practice, but it’s hardly surprising that Newt would support amnesty for illegal aliens. After the Pelosi global-warming ad and Dede Scozzafava and “right-wing social engineering,” is it any surprise he’d adopt the left’s line on immigration too? He earned a career grade of D from Numbers USA (they calculate back to 1989). Heck, even Barbara Boxer has a career grade of D+.

.. So the Gingrich Amnesty would cover illegal immigrants here when Congress passed IRCA. That is to say, it would pick up where the previous amnesty left off, legalizing precisely those people who didn’t qualify for IRCA. This just underlines what a chump you have to be to support any deal offered you by amnesty supporters.

Which is why “enforcement first” is the only way to go: consistent, unapologetic, across-the-board enforcement of the immigration law at our consulates overseas for visa applicants, at the borders, and inside the country, especially at the worksite — without preconditions or deals or grand bargains.

Believe what you want. I just find it funny how all of you who got upset with Perry are now twisting yourselves like pretzels to justify what Newt says and has been saying for years. You do know that Americano is one of his sites.

Well, I don’t appreciate being included int he broad brush smear you just tried. I do not seek to trash the non-Newt candidates. If you insist on mischaracterizing candidates and posters, please just don’t poing me to any more of your spittle. I watched your link and it did not support your mischaracterization of Newt’s words. I don’t care to have any further lies to have to digest. Feed your crap to someone else.

Actually, Rick Perry is not advocating amnesty, the granting of citizenship purely by absolution. Rick’s position is more subtle than that.

Render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s and unto God what is God’s. It is not reasonable to reward those who willfully break the law and God’s law by stealing. It is not Christian behavior for those illegals to break the law. I understand your adherence to compassionate conservatism but it does nothing but encourage more illegal behavior and theft. I am all for compassionately giving them a ride back to their home country. I don’t care how many years they have been stealing from this country — stealing work from legal citizens, stealing tax money and benefits from the Americans, stealing a place from those who would come here according to law — those behaviors are not deserving of any rewards.

“Do you actually know what amnesty is? “

Amnesty for people who break the law is amnesty.
These “limited amnesty” plans always end up covering more people than promised and the enforcement never comes. Even with this “no citizenship, legal status only” it would amount to mass amnesty and would invite millions more to come here and then they would demand citizenship rights rather than being second class citizens.

The solution is easy: Enforce the law and secure the border. If one day the border is relatively secure and e-verify etc works, then we can discuss these amnesty ideas.

The solution the DNC is trying to herd conservatives into is neither easy nor humane. ANY plan MUST start with closing the border dwon tight. THEN legalizing illegals who want to be in this country lawfully can begin, but not an automatice citizenship grant.

Amnesty as tried in 1986 is automatic citizenship. That is definitely not what Newt Gingrich was addressing last night. BUT it is what the sleazy Milt Rominy (rhymes with hominy, the huskless corn product) and disapponting Bachmann are trying to accuse Newt of doing.

Trying to conflate legalizing via registration, with granting citizenship is typical of sneaky lying. Sorry, you've been caught trying to conflate and thus lie about the issue.

Yeah, herd the hispanic cattle, all of them, right over the southern border and lock them out. It’s the law. ... Except that is precisely the attitude the demcorats have claimed conservatives have for Hispanics. Congratulations on being an idiot in full.

But in the most important election in my lifetime, when getting rid of Obama is the main issue, it's very reasonable to ask you and the others for whom this is issue #1 to demonstrate to the rest of us that taking your position on immigration is not a guaranteed loser for a candidate.

Same crappy logic used by every elite GOP member to cover over the failures in issue positions for Mitt, John McCain, Gerald Ford, etc.

As Tea-Party members, are goal HAS TO BE to get the most conservative POTUS we can to replace Obama.

Given your logic, we would have ended up with George H. Bush instead of Reagan in 1980.

I am not interested in the same old "Lessor of two evils", "Electable" false choices that are always presented by the GOP and it's flacks.

Same crappy logic

You miss the point of my argument.

I say, IF you insist that a candidate signs on to your position, that THEN you need to answer a reasonable question, "why doesn't this position you insist on win elections? In fact, why does it always lose?"

That's a fair and reasonable question.

If your point is, if you can't have what you want on this issue then you don't care if Obama gets re-elected, that's fine. I have issues like that, just not this one.

But you are calling people out for not insisting that our candidate go your way on this one, without showing, or even claiming, that your position is popular.

It isn't popular, which is why you keep losing, and some of us don't want to lose with you.

Welcome to America

The Wall Street Journal
February 6, 2004

Fifteen authors offer this “Conservative Statement of Principles onImmigration”:

In his farewell address to the nation, President Reagan said: “I’vespoken of the Shining City all my political life . . . [I]n my mind itwas . . . teeming with people of all kinds living in harmony andpeace, a city with free ports that hummed with commerce andcreativity. And if there had to be city walls, the walls had doors andthe doors were open to anyone with the will and heart to get here.”

America is a nation of immigrants. Except for Native American Indians, everyone in this country came to America or is here due to the goodfortune that a parent, grandparent, or other relation came beforethem. Keeping a door open to those with the “will and heart to gethere” is vital to our economy, our culture, our role in the world, andour historic tradition as a land of freedom and opportunity.

Conservatives believe in legal immigration. We believe that Americagrows stronger by welcoming those who seek to better their families, work in our industries, and find liberty and refuge from oppression.

Conservatives oppose illegal immigration. We believe there is a rightway and a wrong way to immigrate to the U.S. However, as conservativeswe believe that our laws must reflect reality and common sense, befiscally responsible, and avoid the loss of innocent life. Our currentimmigration laws do not pass this test.

Between 1990 and 2000, the U.S. increased the number of Border PatrolAgents from 3,600 to 10,000. During that same period illegalimmigration rose by 5.5. million. Moreover, over the past eight years, more than 2,000 men, women, and children have died attempting to crossinto America and seek the opportunity to work and achieve a betterlife. The status quo is unacceptable and clinging to the status quo —or tougher versions of it — is neither conservative nor principled. It has become clear that the only viable approach to reform iscombining enforcement with additional legal avenues for those who wishto work in our economy, while also addressing the situation of thosealready here in the U.S.

President Bush has proposed a new legal path to work in the U.S.through a temporary worker program that will match willing workerswith willing employers. We applaud the president and believe hisapproach holds great promise to reduce illegal immigration andestablish a humane, orderly, and economically sensible approach tomigration that will aid homeland security and free up border-securityassets to focus on genuine threats. The president has shown courage bycalling on Congress to place reality over rhetoric and recognize thatthose already working here outside the law are unlikely to leave.Congress can fulfill its role by establishing sufficient increases inlegal immigration and paths to permanent residence to enable moreworkers to stay, assimilate, and become part of America.

We believe strongly in assimilation and oppose efforts to weaken thehistorical process that has led to e pluribus unum. While immigrantsby and large reject entreaties by those who favor multiculturalism, the best defense is a good offense: making the teaching of English andcivics a priority in our schools, community colleges, and adulteducation programs.

Immigrants are crucial to our competitiveness and future labor andeconomic growth, as well as our military strength. Our country’swelcoming attitude to immigrants will permit the U.S. to grow andprosper, as the populations of many other nations stagnate anddecline. Each generation of Americans must connect our nation’s pastto its future and in so doing keep President Reagan’s vision of the”Shining City” alive.

Why would church attendance or Christianity not have a place in this discussion?

If there is a family of illegals that is attending church regularly, a conservative church at that, why would I want to deport them? In praising and worshiping God regularly, they are doing more to adhere to the Founding Fathers’ idea of America than many citizens that are here legally!

Some illegals are pro-family, God-fearing Christians.
______________________________________________

No theyre not...

If they fearted god they would obey Him...

They would not be liars and criminals breaking our laws...

They are just going to the Catholic Church that is hiding them because its expected of them and not because they are nice HONEST truthful Christians

and what about the non-Christian religions???

Lotsa of illegal aliens go to the Mormon religious services...

Are they good Mormons ???

When did that happen before or after they arrived...

Lots of illegal elaiens are used by the Normn Corporation as prosylizers...Evangelical Mormon “missionaries” knocking on your door...

How would you like an illegal a;lien Mormon to knock on your door and say you are too wicked to go to Heaven and you need to be like themn and join the Mormons so you will be good enough ???

again they only “join” because iit is expected of them...

and the Mormons are short of warm bodies...

Meanwhile, when I wanted to come rto the US

and then when I wanted to become an American citizen...

Nobody required that I be a Church goiung Christian to do so...

Every day Moslems are arriving and staying legally in the US...

and Hindus, Buddists, Atheists, etc

Any that are here illegally just have to become a member of a Christian church and thet can stay here ???

REALLY ???

I pulled the relevant USC this morning, and it said ten years except for fraud, which is seven.

Murder no limit, actually reading the news sexual assault no limits cases are coming up decades old.. OH BTW illegals have the privilege of running red light and speed cameras with no fear of collection as well. They are in a real sense a protected class because even if caught unless it is violent felony they do not see jail and once on bond they move on new ID. Can you do that? Can you draw paychecks with no income tax taken? No likely not because of race but they can.

I'm sick and tired of this humane to illegals PC garbage. The DEMs play it the GOP also plays it. ENOUGH!!! Deport them now. No one forced them too be here. This is not like a nation where there is serious reason to grant humanity basis stays. This is an invasion and some need to open their wee widdle wiberal eyes.

BTW I got a family member who has family in another nation which has tried for years to enter the U.S. legally and then become American. They can not get a VISA. But Pedro from Juarez can walk right in illegally and gain favored status by politicans? I am for legal immigration. If illegals can't stay home build a prison for them omn a salt flat somewhere.

If they support themselves, they stay. If not they go, no matter how long they have been here.

WRONG! If they are here illegally and supporting themselves they are taking someone elses job doing so and we have job shortages as it is. Part of the LEGAL IMMIGRATION SYSTEM IS MAKING CERTAIN JOBS ARE HERE. Jobs are not here. Go Home. Our own nation has unemployed in many states who need work. Illegals not only take those jobs but lower the standard of living for others by working tax free. Joe America can't work tax free but an illegal can and make far more money. Joe America will go to jail if caught. An illegal if caught will bond out and go to another state with another stolen I.D. We all pay for illegal immigration. It has too stop.

Newt as Speaker of the House was part of the illegal immigration problem when it first began back in the 90's. You may recall Pat Buchanan and others sounding the alarm about the massive illegal immigration that was taking place. What did Newt do? ...He looked the other way and did nothing. Perhaps he was in favor of all the cheap labor. Perhaps he favors open borders. Newt was never asked these questions but his behavior is telling.
A vote for Newt is a vote for amnesty!

No, I am not saying that if they are just a member of the church they should stay. It is merely a factor that should be considered when deciding IF they stay, along with work status, how long they’ve been here, and community involvement. Being a church goer is a part of what makes up a good, God-fearing U.S. citizen. In no way did I ever say that if someone is a Christian or church goer they should stay just based on that. To me, it’s part of the package that should allow you to stay, with a green card and NOT citizenship by the way...
