When I was a student there just a few years ago (1959-63) we managed to do it ourselves without adult assistance or supervision. How low the once mighty have fallen.

The nightlife industry is pretty vibrant in NYC. A class on how to properly manage hotels/restaurants/clubs would be beneficial to anyone looking to get into that arena. There is so much darn money to be made. I won’t even begin to tell you what a good door-guy at a hot club can pull in nightly. You’d spit.

It is a self-perpetuating problem, too. About the only thing a Doctorate in American Studies is good for is ... teaching American Studies in an institution of “higher” learning. In order to do that, you must convince students it is a worthwhile course of study. Then they get the degree and discover that the only thing it is good for is ... teaching American Studies ...

Ah, the schools don’t like it? OK..! Then they CO-SIGN the loans, and student debt for such majors should be dischargeable via bankruptcy, just like real estate and ANYTHING ELSE.

That's something I've also been advocating for a while. I would go further: have the colleges BE THE LOAN ISSUERS, with the loan money coming out of their endowment/budget, and their yearly budgets being dependent upon the repayment cash flow. And, yes, loans being discharged in bankruptcy.

Really suddenly, they will stop admitting students who are unqualified to be in college, and stop offering courses that do not make the student more viable in the job market.
