She took virtually the same position in September as Newt did the other night when she and her campaign took the hard stand No Amnesty position.
So I repeat myself, which grade is it? Then or now?
Bachmann is desperate. She also is IMO working for the Romney camp.
But getting punches in during a debate—e.g., as Newt smacked down Paul in this last one—is a good thing. We need someone capable of that to go up against Obama.
I think we’ve seen that Cain and Perry aren’t informed and sharp enough for that.
She disappointed me on the issue in September—as did every last candidate we’ve got running.
But her position isn’t nearly as bad as Newt’s red card program.
If you have a problem with it, take it up with Roy Beck.
The only candidate in this race who's had a consistently supportable position on illegal immigration is Michelle Bachmann.
If you want to support Gingrich, be my guest.
Just don't try to persuade him that he and Michelle Bachmann are in agreement on this issue.
It's simply not true.
Agreed. Its simply a matter of fact that some will get amnesty and should but I trust her to actually work to see that the law is enforced.
It appears you’ve become the minister of propaganda at FR, pimping for Newt 24/7.
I don’t agree with your ‘matter of fact’ that some should get amnesty, but I agree that Bachmann’s been better on the issue than any of the other candidates.
I have felt as you do about Bachmann going after her fellow contenders as she is. I have found it to be a huge turnoff. Any time I worked with anyone who compared themselves to me I felt they were insecure and could not stand or fall on their own merits. She has many great qualities. There is no need to pounce asap on each candidate who is getting beaten up by the press.
That pin in my eye is not nearly as bad as the spike in the other?
They have all disappointed me to some degree along the road from September. But again, I will not throw my support behind anyone of them until I am walking into the precinct to cast my vote on January 31st. But as the son of an immigrant who did it legally, besides the issue of economics, this whole immigration debate is number 2-1/2 because it shares with the #2 of national security.
1. Close and secure the border, with the US Military if necessary using Ft. Huachuca as the HQ. As the bird flies, it is only 16 miles from the Mexican Border in Cochise County. The current ground zero for crossers.
2. Seize the assets of and close any business found to be willfully hiring illegals. If they are not using e-verify and have bogus SSN numbers listed, busted!
3. Hospitals, schools and any other agency receiving tax dollars for payment of services must report their detection of illegals and the discovery of bogus documentation.
Just take a look at Arizona and Alabama before the Justice Department got involved. The light was turned on and they were scattering.
If an American citizen is arrested , tried and found guilty of a crime that sends them to prison, how is that family being separated any different than separating the ones who have illegal members living here? Both would have resulted of a crime being willfully committed.
When I was in school one of our teachers got into trouble over his immigration status. It turned out that he had fled Poland in 1947 and lied on his immigration forms.
I guess deporting him would have been one thing but what brought the issue to a head when it was discovered through a problem with a family history through one of his grandchildren.
I guess my feeling is that they’re OK if they’re truly Americans today as was the family of my teacher. (No ties or allegiance to Poland)
Nope, they’re not.
Bachmann comes the closest, implying we should start trying to throw all of them out. But watch the video to see that even she has issues with blanket deportation.
Newt/Cain/Perry all have similar plans of selective deportation. One gets the sense Bachmann would be the toughest on the issue.
There is no way that Michele Bachmann’s presence on a ticket would get me to vote for Romney. At the same time, Bachmann’s continual attacks against others but only weakly against Romney, if at all, says she might be trying to have it both ways. The only other explanation is that she’s always campaigning for 2nd place, so she has to knock out the most recent challenger to Romney. That seems faulty in so many areas, but perhaps she believes it.
I have to start paying more attention to who the “deport everyone” crowd is.
The other thing to pay attention to is the main supporters of any particular candidate. They appear to be willing to spew anything against anyone just to make their guy appear better.
In the process, they do the work of obama (or mini-me romney) by knocking out viable conservatives.
I call them Jackass Conservatives (donkey-crossovers).
A Jackass Conservative is a conservative who spends time injuring other conservative candidates, thereby helping Romney or Obama.
“Re: your Post #11: And no Republican, in the race now, has more substance than Newt Gingrich; thank you.”
Apollo is right, Newt is total image, he has no substance, he uses fair words and good speeches, to deceive the hearts and minds of the simple.
Beware the Newt!
Yes - and their fallback is "they broke the law".
I've asked a few of them to do the "purity" test on that argument by listing all the laws, big or small, they broke over the last 25 years and to immediately turn themselves in so they can make restitution. I'll bet that they feel no need to pay for crimes from such a long time ago or even more recent torts, because "they're different".
No doubt, she wants to be VP.
Who would have such a lose cannon. She’s better off in the Senate

Re-activate Eisenhower’s “Operation Wetback”.
