Al Gore: Americans Are Yearning for 'Unvarnished Truth' Offered by Current TV By Tim Graham Created 11/25/2011 - 11:26am
In a special 80th anniversary edition of Broadcasting & Cable magazine (not online), former vice president Al Gore lays out his vision for how the American public is just desperately hungry for Current TV -- actual ratings numbers notwithstanding. To add humor on top of humor, Gore insisted that Current TV is not really leftist.
"Some of our competitors may see us as being on the left side of the spectrum," Gore admitted, "but the entire spectrum has been pulled so far to the right that we believe that we are completely right about what viewers are yearning for as we enter what is sure to be one of the most heated, energetic, and fascinating election years in memory."
It's comical that Gore would both pay a former ESPN sports anchor $10 million a year to be the poster child of his network, and yet write of his handiwork "Today, more than ever, audiences are seeking intelligent discourse instead of cynicism and sniping." Gore thinks objectivity should go out the window in favor of the "best unvarnished truth" he can offer:
They want context, insight, and informed opinion. They want journalists to get to the truth and not just present a cliched "on the one hand and on the other hand" shortcut. They want a news network that connects the dots and makes sense out of a complicated world that is all the most confusing because of the cacophony of noises.
Wouldn't all of this sound like what liberals hate about Fox News? Gore insisted, "as a consumer of news myself, I have had the feeling for some time now that weve reached a tipping point where Americans are looking for a fresh and independent perspective, an unvarnished point of view and thats what they deserve." Gore thinks his millionaire backers aren't "conglomerates," so they can be truly progressive.
Networks owned by conglomerates often cannot follow our lead becuase of their owners' broad agendas that go far beyond seeking the truth, wherever it may be. What is needed is more independent networks that are not beholden to the larger and broader interests of their corporate owners.
What you get instead are networks that beholden themselves to left-wing socialist crusades like Occupy Wall Street:
So it is no surprise to me that Current was the first network to report on Occupy Wall Street. When others were reporting on the news of the day, we realized that this incipient movement was a game-changer, and then we helped to influence the direction of the news coverage and the headlines.
The article is titled "The Search for Intelligent Discourse." Naturally, "intelligent discourse" and "liberal unanimity" are one and the same. (Ask the public broadcasters.) Gore's quite explicit: he wants Current to drag the rest of the media establishment to the Left until Current is at the American "center." One can only imagine what would be on the Left of that.
Isn’t he best known for varnishing turds?
Algore needs to see a shrink.
Unvarnished, does he mean like a ****house door?
This from the guy who recently claimed the temperature at the earth’s center was “millions of degrees” (he didn’t specify F or C), and flunked out of divinity school.
Oh, and let’s not forget wasting water flooding a stream bed during a drought so he could get an election photo op.
What a maroon. Why listen to him at all?
The ‘unvarnished truth’ from the guy who has been cramming the hoax of global warming/global climate change down our throats for a decade.
You mean “unvarnished BS”
In other words, he thinks you're stupid and wants to tell you exactly how and what and when to think. If it weren't for liberal projection I wouldn't have much to laugh about.
Yearning for Al to STFU! Or a myocardial infarction.
Must have bought stock in company
OK here is some unvarnished truth.
How about the unvarnished truth about electric sports cars built in Finland using US tax dollars, Al?
Algore: “Why aren’t they buying my propaganda anymore?!”
I want you to know that everything I did, I did for my country - Pol Pot
Al, how many times has liberal radio been tried....and failed?
Al Gore’s true calling was not religion or politics - it’s snake oil salesman.
There’s only one offering on Current worth watching.
“Vanguard”. All he rest is leftist poppycock.
Even Vanguard is liberal biased, but it’s informative.
The rest is mush. Just mush.
Well, that sure figures... unfortunately it also means that this very thread just doubled the number of people actually reading his comments.
One of my favorite clips from Glenn Beck:
- Al Gore
It is an obscene joke for al gore to mention the word, “truth”. He couldn’t process the word “truth” with his corrupted Marxist head.
LoL. Yeah, right, Al.
Al Gore is the prototypical politician - someone who thinks they are special and spend their entire lives trying to prove it. Because political activism (e.g. marches and rallies, save the planet causes etc.) is much bigger on the left, they are naturally attracted to the left. Liberalism gives them much more opportunity to put their ‘stamp’ on the world and prove their ‘specialness’.
This is also why they aren’t into thoughtful incremental change. They are fundamentally grandiose, and want to do ‘big’ things (e.g. the ‘New Deal’, socialized health care, nationalized child care, and ‘saving the planet from global warming’).
Ironically, they have such a need to be special, that they can’t tolerate a system that allows everyone to be ‘special’ and individual (e.g. capitalism, self-determinism, personal responsibility). They support a political structure wherein they are adored and the rest of us do the adoring, while we are being ‘taken care of’ by them. It’s perfectly fine for the rest of us to spend our littler lives under them, doing our nice little things while paying homage to them and being thankful. In other words, like all who tend toward narcissism, those around them are objectified, like props around their central stage.
I could go on and on about this, because there is a lot of pathology to cover, but you all know the picture anyway. One thing I’d like to say, though, is that the entertainment industry, the ‘news’ industry, and academia attract many of the same types.
One common misconception they hold is that everyone wanted to do the same in life as them, and that they somehow ‘won’ a universal competition (e.g. everyone wanted to be a Senator, everyone wanted to go to Harvard, everyone wanted to ..... fill in the blank). It’s really a pathetically misinformed, painfully narrow, and self-aggrandizing world view.
If only we would all just sit back and let them be special...
Anyone know what Current's ratings are?
It's interesting that three fairly big media stars..Olbermann, Beck, and Stern...are now off the MSM grid...used to be..everyday, there would be something in the papers on online about what Stern said or it..now..it's like theya re all in cyberspace Siberia.. I guess that alternative media still has a ways to go..
Let these stupid rich libtards waste their money on a hopeless goal.
especially hard hitting documentaries about Donkey Kong players.
ROFLOL.Yes they sure are and that is why not a single show even registers in the ratings.Let’s say there are 700 shows on on cable....al of currents show occupy #700,#699,#698.....you get the idea. The bright side is that I’m sure he has a ton of his ill-gotten money from the faux science of glow bull warming involved.
Just another delusional, demented Democrat/Leftist/Socialist/Liberal.
I don't want ANYONE "connecting the dots" for me. I'm so tired of politicians presuming to speak and think for me.
Nobody watches that channel
Is there any intelligent life on Current TV?
Joy Behar’s show lasted two years. I doubt Al Bore will last that long.
I can’t stop laughing! Unvarnished high school video projects and opinions is more like it. Incomplete thoughts at best!
What we get from Al Gore smells more like an open cess pool than truth.
Al Gore: Americans Are Yearning for 'Unvarnished Truth' Offered by Current TVDear Al,
Funny E-Trade Baby Commercial: E-trade baby loses everything [Language Advisory]
“A zebra does not change its spots.”
Well, technically, that IS true, but one does wonder if
that actually qualifies as the “unvarnished” truth. If so, then I can see why the ratings of Current TV are essentially non-existent. You know, like that old Sonic commercial where the idiot husband says he’s gonna post how much he likes the Sonic strawberry milkshake on his blog, and his idiot wife says, “Nobody but your mother reads your blog anyway.”, to which the husband says, “That’s not true. Her friend reads it too.”
“If a tree falls in a forest” alert...
This is the same Al Gore who, in pandering to the unions, said that his mother used to sing the union label song to him as sort of a lullaby. He was 27 years old when the song was written. A pitiful man, or poodle as the case may be.
Al Gore is DIAPER BOY!!!
I’m yearning for Algore to go away. A victim of Globull Warming.
