A man from Dortmund has filed a complaint against Pope Benedict XVI for not wearing a seat belt in his "Popemobile" during his last trip to Germany.

Johannes Christian Sundermann, a lawyer from Unna in North Rhine Westphalia, filed a legal complaint against the German-born pope formerly known as Joseph Ratzinger for not wearing his seat belt on several occasions “for more than one hour at a time,” according to a report in the Westfälischen Rundschau newspaper. …

The lawyer, a member of the socialist Left party, took on the case after several other attorneys rejected it. Both Sundermann and his client are no longer members of the Catholic Church. …

So a Godless commie files a nuisance lawsuit again the Pope.Wouldn't expect this to go too far in court.

Obviously, Johannes Christian Sundermann, the commie “lawyer” doesn’t have anything to do. Ambulance chasing must be on the slow down in Germany.

Wow, he must really be bored ! I am sure if some people have it their way, we will have that same crap here in the USA. Speed or drive with too dark windows, if the police don’t get you, some busy body will !

Why did he sue the Pope? Shouldn’t he sue the municipal or the police for not enforcing the law?

Does German law exempt the pope from the seatbelt law?

His middle name is “Christian.” Someone needs to sue him for fraud.

Wow, do we have the same thing in the US?... A private citizen, with no apparent “standing” in a case, suing someone else for breaking the law, that is? Never heard of it. Don’t know if it’s a good idea — although I’d love to sneak around and get the goods on some of these Hollywood leftists, then sue them for smoking pot, or speeding, or running a red light, or murdering their valet, or drowning their kopechne or something, etc. Would need some deep pockets though.

I’m surprised he didn’t change his name when he left the Catholic Church, as the article mentions. I guess there wasn’t enough of a ring to “Johannes Kommunistischer Sundermann” or whatever . . .

Still, these guys who sue Popes, Presidents, Kings, Queens and celebrities of all sorts are really looking for something more readily dealt with by VIAGRA!

It's cheaper too.

Um, this seems stupid to me. OK, I suppose you could give the pope a ticket, but beyond whatever fine there might be, what is the “damages” that this man is suing for?

THERE ARE REAL PROBLEMS IN THE WORLD.

MAYBE HE SHOULD HELP SOME STARVING PEOPLE SOMEWHERE.

OR EVEN SOME PEOPLE IN GERMANY MIGHT HAVE SOME ACTUAL PROBLEMS AND THEY MIGHT NEED SOME HELP.

Sorry for yelling.

Can’t the Pope issue a Papal dispensation which exempts him from wearing seatbelts on Sundays, Holy Days, and when traveling in Germany?

Doesn’t the Pope, as a head of state, have diplomatic immunity from such nuisances?

The last paragraph of the article mentioned that the charges will probably not stick due to diplomatic immunity.

Pope Benedict should countersue him for being an a-hole. Would make just as much sense.

A man from Dortmund has filed a complaint against Pope Benedict XVI for not wearing a seat belt in his "Popemobile"

Was it on Nürburgring? If not then the Popemobile probably covered half a mile during that hour. The photo in the article shows the vehicle surrounded by the crowd. At that speed Pope could ride a unicycle in that Popemobile if he wanted to.
