How to Tell Who is a “Moderate Islamist:” An Exam
Rubin Reports ^ | Barry Rubin

Posted on 11/26/2011 7:23:16 PM PST by ventanax5

The Muslim Brotherhood held a rally at Cairo’s most important mosque. Demonstrators chanted, “One day we shall kill all Jews."

Question 1: How can you tell they are “moderate Islamists?”

Answer: They said “one day,” in other words, they aren’t going to do it this week.

Question 2: At the rally someone said:

"In order to build Egypt, we must be one. Politics is insufficient. Faith in Allah is the basis for everything. The al-Aqsa Mosque is currently under an offensive by the Jews." Who was it?

Answer: Ahmed al-Tayeb, the “moderate” president of al-Azhar University and arguably the most important Muslim cleric in Egypt. Note: al-Aqsa Mosque is not under attack by Jews.

Question 3: Why did al-Tayeb talk this way in the context of calling for a Jihad against Israel?

Answer: Maybe he isn't so moderate. But more importantly it is part of the general radicalization of Islam that is going to happen in Egypt now that the Brotherhood will be running the place and thus his desire to survive rather than be branded a lackey of the Zionist-imperialist crusade to destroy Islam and have his head cut off. (See Question 1.)

Answer: Maybe he isn’t so moderate. But more importantly it is part of the general radicalization of Islam that is going to happen in Egypt now that the Brotherhood will be running the place and thus also his desire to survive rather than be branded a lackey of the Zionist-imperialist crusade to destroy Islam and have his head cut off. (See Question 1.)

Question 4: Can someone be a “moderate Muslim” or “moderate Islamist” and call for a Jihad to wipe Israel off the map?

Answer: Apparently yes. Muslim Brotherhood spokesmen made such calls at the rally yet the Obama Administration holds that the Brotherhood is moderate and the U.S. government supports its taking power in Egypt.

Question 5: How did the Muslim Brotherhood get the Jewish calendar wrong?

Answer: “Tel Aviv, Tel Aviv, judgment day has come.” In fact, Yom Kippur was last October 8

Question 6: An elementary school teacher Ala al-Din said, “All Egyptian Muslims are willing to embark on Jihad for the sake of Palestine.” What does he teach little children in school?

Answer: that all Egyptian Muslims should embark on Jihad to destroy Israel.

Question 7: Why don’t American officials, journalists, and “experts” understand Islamists?

Answer: Ala al-Din explained it: “Why is the US losing in Afghanistan? Because the other side is willing and wants to die. We have a different mentality than that of the Americans and Jews.” In other words because they don’t understand that people in the Arabic-speaking world have “a different mentality.”

Question 8: Is this mentality somehow biological or innate in Islam?

Answer: No, it is the result of historical processes, political culture, indoctrination in school and mosque and media, dominant ideology, and from the demagoguery of leaders.

Question 9: Why don’t Western reporters see what’s going on and report it fully?

Answer: They weren’t’ wearing their glasses so they didn’t see the signs; they weren’t’ wearing their hearing aids so they didn’t hear the chants.

Question 10: But these journalists, along with the officials and “experts” are idols of the Western elite, so is there any precedent for this?

Answer: Yes indeed! See here on line 16.

Question 11: Who said that the Muslim Brotherhood is “a very heterogeneous group, largely secular, which has eschewed violence” and what is he doing now?

Answer: Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and he’s still director of national intelligence.

Question 12: Who said “Parties committed to democracy must reject violence….And in a region with deep divisions within and between religions, they cannot be the spark that starts a conflagration” and does that person react to what the Muslim Brotherhood actually says?

Answer: Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and no.

Question 13: What possible rationale could she have for not dealing with the Muslim Brotherhood’s bloodthirsty totalitarian orientation and intolerance?

Answer: See Question 1.

Extra credit question: Why will many Americans—including Jews–vote to reelect President Barack Obama despite the fact that his administration is whitewashing, supporting, and may soon be funding the world’s most powerful and genocidal-oriented antisemitic, anti-Christian, and anti-American group? Answer: I don’t know. I only write about the Middle East.

Isn’t the Arab Spring wonderful? We must combat Muslim stereotypes. This was the job of Muzzammil Hassan and his television station until unfortunately he was arrested for beheading his wife. He did it, however, with extreme moderation.

Actually, moderate Muslims are not a myth, but they are to be found in great numbers only among the Shi’ites. The most obvious examples are the Ismailis who regard jihad as primarily internal struggle, and the Aga Khan as the only imam with the authority to call for jihad in the sense of warfare (the Oxbridge educated, very cosmopolitan and fabulously wealthy Aga Khans, and the Ismaili imams before them since the Mongols destroyed Ismaili temporal power show no inclination do to any such thing).

The Druze, likewise are an example, due to their odd doctrine that requires them to support whatever religion is dominant in the surrounding culture — thus Israeli Druze are permitted to fight in the IDF and do so bravely and loyally, while Lebanese Druze used to support the Christian government until the Palestinian refugee influx tilted the demographic balance to (Twelver) Shi’ites so that they now support Hezbollah.

The orthodox Twelver Shi’ites in Iraq who followed Al Sistani and oppose the Iranian Ta’ajilis (Hasteners) are another example: except for a three month period when Al Sistani tilted toward Iran for internal Iraqi political reasons, he was objectively supportive of U.S. goals in Iraq from the invasion until his death. It was Al Sistani who persuaded the Iraqi Shi’ites to accept the super-majority provisions in the Iraqi constitution and constitutional ratification process on the basis that it wasn’t an American ‘trick’ but something beneficial we had done for ourselves in our constitution and constitutional ratification process.

I am, however, dubious about the existence of any reliably moderate Sunnis. When there was a caliph, the Sunnis were as radical or moderate as the regnant caliph and thus could change from one to the other at the whim or one man or upon a succession to the caliphate. Now, they basically regard every Muslim as his own mullah, so “sudden jihadi syndrome” is always possible with any of them, as, unlike Shi’ite sects they have no recognized superior religious authority to either restrain or prod them.

.

Every “moderate” Muslim is a potential terrorist. The belief in Islam is like a tank of gasoline. It looks innocuous, until it meets the fire. For a “moderate” Muslim to become a murderous jihadist, all it takes is a spark of faith.

It is time to put an end to the charade of “moderate Islam.” There is no such thing as moderate Muslim. Muslims are either jihadists or dormant jihadists – moderate, they are not.

A moderate is just one who has run low on bullets

As per instruction in the koran, hadiths and sunniths ... moderation is simply the period of time it takes to rearm.

Extra points:
1) Q: How many radical muslims exist?
A: Conservative estimates run around 10% of the total 1.2 billion ... or 120,000,000 ... others say the number is 20% ....

2) Q: What of the others who are not radicals?
A: They support the 10% by deception in words and deeds, or remain silent.

3) Q: Will a self-professsed moderate muslim condemn radicals?
A: Never. Or only in the most vague and generalized terms to include references to Christianity and the Crusades.

4) Q: How does one tell where a moderate muslims sympathies lie?
A: Ask which comes first: being an American or being a muslim.

5) Q: How do you tell what a non-muslim thinks of radical muslim actions?
A: See answer to 3 above.

6) Q: How do you know the non-muslim above is a true useful idiot?
A: When they tell you that Islam and muslims are not the same thing...

Moderate as in Mohammedans is not an absolute condition but a state, like sleeping dogs, unloaded rifles, disarmed bombs. A moderate Mohammedan is one who will not attack right now for any number of reasons. The reasons include being out of ammunition, waiting for a better time to take out more infidels, cowardice. Keep in mind most Mohammedans would kill you as soon as look at you. Unless you happen to be a tasty piece of cat meat, in which case he would want to get to know you better, first.

The title isn’t ‘moderate muslim’ it’s “moderate islamist”.
There is a difference. Muslims may or may not be islamist, but once you are, there really is no such thing as a moderate islamist.

There is one Koran, and it tells Muslims to kill non-Muslims, period. I really don’t give a rip about the “nuances” of the various purported sects of the Ishmaelites—they’re all dead wrong, and many of them want to kill us.

The fact is that they have invaded our country and wormed their way into the highest levels of our government, and they mean to subjugate America under their detestable Islamist ideology. There is nothing “moderate” about the ones who are here on a mission (CAIR, anyone?), and I’ll be damned if I will stand by silently while they continue their hellish crusade against us.
