Well, I like Joe Arpaio, his independent nature and his ability to drive the Left nuts. But, nationally, I don't think his endorsement of Perry will move voters one way or the other. I'm a Texan and voted for Perry all three times - mainly because even a bad Republican is better than any Democrat. Also, in Texas the real power brokers are the Lt. Governor and the Railroad Commissioner and not the governor. So, Perry's tenure as Governor here was a Do No Harm endeavor.

Realizing it’s still early in the process, but I believe this endorsement is powerfully symbolic and will serve to bring Gov Perry back to the center stage. Cain, Gingrich and Perry in the top 3? I can live with those choices. I have no idea who will actually get the Nomination at this point....What say you?
Exactly. Endorsements are only important to people who are already supporters.
Any rational person will have to acknowledge all of our candidates have their flaws, no one is perfect. The positive about Perry is that he has tried to stem the flow of illegals and the fed refuse to do their job. Perry has a very good record.
The "big pharma" charge is ridiculous if you're basing the whole charge on the $5000 contribution from Merck. This is peanuts and we can probably find related charges against all of the others. This too, is a non issue. NAFTA? Then we're going to have to examine all the other's positions on NAFTA. Dream Act? Perry's example of Dream Act is different from the national Dream act.

At best, or worst, Texans are divided on that issue.
You as one Texan with an opinion is offset by others who see his record differently, entirely so.

But back to the subject that started this, if Sheriff Joe were to endorse Cain, or whomever else these posters follow, they would be singing his praises, but instead they insult him like they insult Perry.
My view is, Sheriff Joe knows the feds are the problem, just like Perry says, and he believes Perry will implement his Border Security Plan and secure the border within a year of being sworn in as President, exactly like Perry says he’ll do, and that’s why he would endorse him.
Unless you have only started visiting Perry threads today there is plenty of evidence of Perry's problems listed. Do a search.

Joe would not endorse McCain, naturally, given the history, so he picked someone else, but picked badly.

Spoke with a relative who works for the Texas Highway Patrol. Perry has all Hwy Patrol officers doing 2 week patrols on the border.
My relative told me he turned in 18 illegals to the Border Patrol. That is one lone officer and he is paid by Texas tax dollars, not Federal Tax dollars.
I take the words of Sheriff Joe and my 15 year vet relative to anonymous spammers and keyboard warriors on Free Republic.

Perry was also Lt. Governor of Texas so the point that opposition makes about Perry being governor of a state with a weak office doesn't really fly.
the other point is that Sheriff Joe is a man of principle and he has an extensive record of achievement and is loved by conservatives. His support of Perry doesn't change that yet there will be some on FR (not you) who will begin to malign Sheriff Joe because of this endorsement. This endorsement seems to be based on principle since Perry is polling nationally around 10-14%.

I know this personally as do many Texans whose family member has to leave their town where they patrol the highways and go hundreds of miles away to help secure the border. It's not their job and it's not why they signed up but we pay for it with our own tax dollars.

Regarding illegal immigration:
Perry has had to deal with an international border that was suppose to be secured by the Federal Government on behalf of all the United States.
Perry has had to deal with Obama Administration that does nothing - except send troops to other countries.
Perry has had to deal with a United States Government that is corrupt and has committed treasonous crimes by running guns into Mexico to criminal drug cartels.
Perry has had to deal with a Supreme Court order that we educate illegals.
Perry has had to deal with a Homeland Security and ICE that will not punish violators, will not deport violators but instead puts them right back on the streets.
Perry knows you cannot build a 1200 mile fence on the Texas/Mexico border that would take 10-15 years to build,
and cost billions.
In-State Tuition law (which would be mute and probably overturned if border was secured)
12 to 16K kids a break of few hundred dollars (yea, I know what Romney said and that dog don’t hunt because the majority of those kids are going to community colleges) that NO ONE not even Texas Taxpayers pay a dime for! It is a fact that the in-state tuition law does not cost Texans one dime. It certainly does not cost US Taxpayers anything. In fact, if the law was reversed today, Texas Universities would lose over 10 million dollars.
It is something that Texas decided - not anyone else - it is a STATE ISSUE. An issue based on what the Fed Gov has allowed to snowball and an issue we as Texans have to deal with due to an incompetent Federal Government.
Perry, Texans and Texas did not INVITE the illegals into our state. They cost us lots and lots of money and we know it but our hands are tied by the Federal Government who refuse to do their job, who run guns to the drug cartels, who make laws mandating that we pay for the illegals education that they refuse to keep out of our state and that they refuse to deport.
Perry has pushed laws in the legislature but our legislature are afraid they will step on their hispanic votes and will not pass them.
Perry tried to get the sanctuary city law passed, he specified that it was an emergency bill and when our legislature did not pass it, he called a special session and put it right back on the table for them to consider.
They still did not pass it (they will soon be up for election).
Our legislature only convenes every two years.
As Texans: we have no income tax. We have a Governor we like and that is why we keep electing him. His policies have created an environment that results in a better standard of life with as little regulations as he can maintain for us, low taxes, got tort reform through that eliminated the costs that were driving up for Texas businesses.
We deal with the illegal immigrant problem as best we can considering we are fighting at both ends: The Federal Government on our backs and the drug war on the border. With our own money and our own manpower.
We take shit from the Feds every single day of every single week of every single month of every single year.
Yet we still are still the #1 economy in the United States.
Yes Texans had everything to do with that, but we had a Governor who created the environment in which we could do so.
Governor Perry stands firmly on Freedom.
And that is why I will be voting for Perry.

Perry is the ONLY CANDIDATE that has done more on the border than Obama. And that’s a fact. I know because it is Texans money and manpower being used to do it on behalf of the entire USA.

Rick Perry can order the security measures he has done on his own. He can join in lawsuits but he can't make law. Neither can Brewer or the governor of Alabama.
